Wantagh Camera Club

“The Red Eye” by Dick HuntFebruary 27 point winner at PFLIColor Prints “A”

The cover of each edition of The Flash will showcase a photograph taken by a member of the Wantagh Camera Club

It is my goal to foster and maintain a good relationship with the Wantagh Public Library. Our club has had the free use of the meeting room for decades now and we feel that in some ways we have to show our appreciation with bigger and smaller deeds to repay this favor. Our donation to help pay for the newly installed projection system was certainly a big step forward in this direction.

The doors are open now to participate in two projects and I am certainly willing to help the library in their quest to serve the community.

The first project is to fill one of their display cases with some of our best printed photos. I have reserved the space for July. As discussed, this will give us an opportunity to wait until after the Leonard Victor awards to have the 15 or so best prints of the year available for display. I will meet with a library representative soon to discuss the style of the display and figure out how many photos we need. I am looking for a volunteer who can print a sign that states that the photos are from the Wantagh Camera Club.

The second project is to donate a gift basket to be given as a prize to a child that excels in the summer reading program. All users of the meeting room have been asked to participate. The content of the basket should represent the activities of the user club. The children in the summer reading program will get to see the gift baskets at the beginning of the program, so as to generate excitement and willingness to work hard to get the desired prize. I would like to include a small child-friendly camera, a small photo album with a few photos that would create excitement and curiosity for the hobby. I will write a small congratulatory note to the winner and some reasons why photography is a great hobby. Please bring me some 4"x 6" photos of cute animals like cats, dogs, and other domestic animals or photos of anything you think would appeal to children under the age of 10.

Should you have any suggestions, please let me know. The basket needs to be ready by May 20.

Thank you for your help!— Heide
