The View From the Podium –

The holiday season is now upon us. For Rotarians it is a time for us all to be thankful for the blessings we have received during this past year. It is also a time to enjoy being with family and friends and a time to be mindful and generous to those in need.

Being a Niles Rotarian gives us the opportunity to realize the things I mention above. Also being a Niles Rotarian means that we will be as busy as ever with our Community Service Projects and our Social Events during this time of year. Niles Rotarians will once again be manning the bell ringing and giving buckets for the Salvation Army at both Dale Hardware and the Fremont Hub Safeway on December 13th. Although Niles Rotary is helping on the 13th, the Salvation Army reports that volunteer bell ringers are needed all around the Bay Area. If you have some spare time and wish to help please contact the Salvation Army. December 20th, Niles Rotarians will once again be helping local families have a wonderful Christmas through our “Pizza with Santa” program. This is my most favorite fun/giving program of the year and the program that makes me the most proud to be Niles Rotarian. If you are a new member or just have not had the opportunity to volunteer for this fabulous event, I recommend that you do so as it will put a smile on your face and will warm your heart throughout the entire season. Thank you, Rose Evernden-Andrade for leading Niles Rotarians again this year providing “Pizza with Santa.” Niles Rotarians will also be busy on the social front this holiday season starting this Friday, Dec 5th, enjoying a warm fireplace and refreshments at the home of Stephen and Nancie Allen. Don’t miss this fun evening - you will want to see the Allen home decorated for the season. Then we have the Holiday (continued on pg. 2)

The View From the Podium (continued) Potluck on Dec 13th (after Salvation Army Bell Ringing) at the home of Sandy and Daren Young. This will be a fun evening of merriment for all as we enjoy visiting with our Niles Rotary family and friends. Thank you, Sandy and Daren for again volunteering your lovely home for this fun evening. President Elect Lisa Lorenz and the Reverse Raffle team are busy rolling out this year’s major fundraising event, Reverse Raffle and Auction. Ticket Sales Teams have been drafted and tickets are available for purchase on the website right now. You will be hearing lots more about this in the coming weeks. Look forward to hearing from your Team Captains soon. Let’s all help President Elect Lisa and her team have the best and most successful Reverse Raffle and Auction fundraiser yet! PE Lisa and team are also hard at work planning this year’s International Convention trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil. If you have not had the opportunity to attend an International Convention I highly recommend that you do. This year’s convention promises to be a wonderful event that all will enjoy. Remember, the earlier you purchase your convention tickets the more you save. Members will learn more about this during upcoming meetings. I quickly want to thank Past President Chuck and Audrey Kearns for leading the group on a fun weekend outing to Sutter Creek area last month. I think I can speak for the entire group that this was a fun time and that we should definitely do this event again next year. Thank you Audrey and Chuck! What I am most thankful for this Holiday season is the time that I get to spend with both of my two families, my wonderful wife and children and my Rotary family. I am a lucky guy! Happy Holidays! President Steve

Another thank you letter from Brier School! This note is from the first grade teachers, including a sister-in-law of John Dutra. Read about how the students made the connection about how a person’s character counts, and donations made by Niles Rotarians. “Then, Mr. Dutra showed his character by helping us!”
