Scaltback&ClubhouseUpdateJanuary2016Weliketokeepyouallupdatedwiththeprogressforthedevelopmentoftheclubandthisisthelatestnewswehave….I’msureyou’llallagreethisisexcitingnews!SuffolkCountyCouncilhasagreedtogranttheNSDA/NewmarketRugbyCluba25yearlease,coveringallofthegreenspaceatScaltback.HeadsofTermshave,broadly,beenagreedandrespectivesolicitorsareworkingonthedetail.Aseparateleasewillbegrantedtoathirdpartyoperatorforthoseschoolbuildingswhichremainafterdemolitionworksarecompleted:this leasewillcovertheareacurrentlyoccupiedbythefootprintoftheexistingschoolbuildings,includingperimeterpathways.Once all of this is completed, and Suffolk County Council is keen to get this finalised at the earliestopportunity,wewillthenbeinapositiontoformulateasustainableplanfortheclub.Asmattersprogress,wewillkeepthemembershipupdatedwithanydevelopmentsbutpleasebepatient,sincethesethingshaveahabitofapparentlylyingdormantbeforecomingatusthickandfast!Definitelysomethingtolookforwardto!If youhaveanynews items,picturesor ideasofwhatyouwould like to includepleaseemailHelenatNewmarketRugby@gmail.comwhowillwelcomeany ideasandnews. Mini&YouthChristmasParties2016If there is oneGod like thingwe at the rugby club are capable of doing its changing theweather…Nomatterwhattimeoftheyear it isweareabletoguarantee1thingwhen itcomes to organizing events, RAIN! The Christmas parties were no exception, the youthcommitteeorganizeddatesandticketsandwerequietlyconfidenttheweatherwouldholdoutduetothemildrunuptotheevent,Ohowwrongwewere!MinisWiththewindwhistlingthroughthetent,threateningtoturnthethemeofourPartiesintotheWizardofOzwewelcomed30childrenfromtheU7s-U9ssectionalongsideparentsandsiblings. The music was playing and the Christmas spirit was showing. Magician WayneGoodmanwaskeepingthecrowdentertainedwithanimpressivearrayoftricksandmagicsuitable for thewhole audiencewhile Santa’s helpers provided a Christmas buffet of hotdogs, Pizzas, cakes, crisps andmince pies. Now for themain Event, Santa! Now here atNRUFCweliketothinkwehaveaspecialrelationshipwithSantasowewerethrilledwhenhe made a special effort to come and say hello to the minis. He chatted and gave outpresents to all the children including siblings. After a couple of hours of fun, magic andgameswewavedgoodbye to somehappy children (andparents!). ThiswasaprocesswerepeatedagainfortheU10s-U12sandwereverypleasedtoseethattheolderchildrenhadmanaged to cling on to that childhood Christmasmagic and really get involvedwith themagicianandhavingsomefun.YouthsWiththeMinispartiesfinishedwewelcomedour3rdandfinalpartyofthedayintheformofThe Youth Section.Unfortunately, Santawas very busy and couldn’t stick around for thisone sowehadaquiz instead.As you can see from thepictureswemanaged to squeezeeveryone in and ply themwith food and drink (non alcoholic of course)while they yeargroupsbattledagainsteachotherforbraggingrights.FreshofftherugbypitchesweweredelightedwhenSeniorTeamManagerRayRichardson&1stTeamCaptainSimonGuenigaultbrought their team back to support the event and join in the fun. After the quiz wascompleteditwastheU14teamwhoprovedtobetheBrainsoftheoutfitandsonowhavetherighttogloatuntilthenextbattle.The Youth Social Committeewould like to say a huge thank you to everyonewho camealongto theevents. It isouraimtocontinuetobring theyouthsectiontogether throughevents and funactivities that everyone canenjoy.Weare alwaysopen tonew ideas andwouldwelcomeanyonewhofeelstheywould liketo joinus inhelpingmaketheseeventshappen.Themoneyraisedfromthiseventisbeingusedtohelprefurbishtheexistingclubhousesolookoutforthechangesthatarehappeningthankstoyoursupportandinvolvement.

ThisseasonNewmarketRugbyUnionFootballClubcelebratesits60thanniversary.TheClubwas formed in 1956, drawing its players from a wide cross section of the community inNewmarket. For the first twelve seasons the Club led a nomadic existence, using hiredpitchesinnearbyvillagesandchanginginlocalclubsandpubs.In1969TheClubmovedtothe present Scaltback site. The clubhouse was built in 1974 and was shared with othersporting and recreational clubs. With the demise of the school the club is currentlynegotiatinganewleaseandplanstobuiltanewclubhouseinthenextfewyears.Forthefirstsevenseasons,theClubranonlyoneteamandgrewtotwosidesin1964afterrecruiting a number of young players from the local secondary school. The core of thecurrent 1st team comprises young players who had progressed through from the juniorteams,anaspectofwhichtheclubisproud.Youthandminirugbywaslaunchedin1978andhasgrownsuccessfullytoapointwheretheClubcanofferrugbytoallagegroupsfrom7to15years.Forthe2015/16season,theMiniand Youth Section boastsmore than 300 registered players and continues to grow everyyear.For those interested in seeing the old teams the club nowhas numerous pictures of theteamsfromyesterdayonitswebsiteandFacebooksites,startingin1960.

Newmarket’sDevelopmentteamscoredaconvincingwinoverStIvesIItotakeitsplaceinthefinaloftheCambridgeshireCountyJuniorPlateon16thApril.ScoringeighttriesNewmarketwon49pointstonil.

Newmarketdominatedthematchrightfromthebeginningandspentthemajorityofthegameinitsopponent’shalf.StIves’disciplinewaspoorandtheteamgaveawayfartoomanypenalties.InitiallythoughNewmarketfailedtotakeadvantage,missingacoupleofkicksbeforetheteamgotintoitsstride.Thefirstpointscame15minutesintogamewhenAdamSmithandthepackheavedtheballoverStIves’line.
