OER and EPE Teaching Staff

José Cândido (WavEC)Degree in Oceanography/Meteorology at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).

José started his research activity initially focused on wave climate and wave energy resource assessment and afterwards on modeling of wave energy devices. At WavEC he is researcher and manager of offshore renewable energy projects, in particular TROPOS (Development of Multi-Purpose Offshore Platforms).

Teresa Simas (WavEC)Coordinator of the Environmental DepartmentDegree in Marine Biology and Fisheries at the Universidade do Algarve and masters and PhD in Environmental Sciences at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Teresa is the coordinator of the environmental team and research projects on marine environmental assessment.

Nuno Matos (WavEC)Coordinator of the Public Policies and Dissemination Group

Degree in Telecommunication and Electronics at Instituto Superior Técnico. He started his Phd recently in the field of public policies at ISCPT, Lisbon Techn. University.

Nuno Matos has many years of experience as a team leader with commercial background. He created the Public Policies and Dissemination Department at WavEC which he coordinates. He developed extensive experience in public administration interaction with ocean energy.

Alex RaventosDegree in Industrial Engineering at the Universtitat Politecnica de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain). Post-graduate diploma in Sustainable Energy Systems by the MIT-Portugal program.

Alex Raventos is responsible for the socio-economic research area at the Public Policies and Dissemination Department of WavEC. He has extensive experience in strategic and economic studies for energy companies and governmental bodies.

• You will be requested to:– Characterize a number of ocean habitats;– Undertake an Maritime Spatial Planning exercise;– Undertake an Economic and Environmental

Planning exercise under some constraints that allow to maximize the socio-economic benefit for the island;

– Advise on the feed-in tariff to be offered by the Public Authorities to offshore renewable energy projects in the island.
