PROPOSED & SECONDED

Detectives have said it is increasingly likely two men in-volved in the attempted abduction of a serviceman at RAF Marham were part of a larger team. Police have widened their appeal for information and are urging motorists to come forward who travel in the area regularly and use dash-cams.

Officers are particularly keen on hearing from people who live in the Marham area and have private CCTV systems or regularly travel in the area by car and use a dash cam or a helmet camera if using a motorcycle/pedal cycle.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Paul Durham, from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Inves-tigation Team, said extensive enquiries were ongoing and revealed that there could have been more than two people in the vehicle, a dark coloured people carrier, used by the suspects.

Witnesses are urged to call dedicated hotlines set up on either 0800 056 0154 or 0207 158 0011 or 101 with any information.

REPORT FROM THE CHAIRI would like to say a big thank you to all who attended The Queens 90th Birthday celebration in the Village hall on Sunday 5th June. The event was a huge success raising over £500 towards a Defibrillator for the Village. A huge Thank you to Cllr Inga Barratt, Cllr Jane Hipperson, Cllr Paul Walsingham, Mrs Pam Weal, Mrs Cathy Currie, Mrs Dawn Flatt & all the helpers who made the day possible. Also thank you to Cherry Marham Hand Bell Ringers for their contribution. A big thank you to Mrs Bedingfield for helping plant the tree and cutting the commemorative cake.

I am sure you are all aware of the Incident which hap-pened on Squires Hill during the afternoon of 20th July 2016. This is now a Police matter if anyone has any information please contact the Police on the dedicated hotlines set up on either 0800 056 0154 or 0207 158 0011 or 101 with any information. Please do not call RAF Mar-ham as they are unable to deal with any information.

You will probably have noticed whilst driving/walking around the village that the hedges, verges and footpaths are not being cut back as often as they used to be. This is due to cut backs by Highways, BCKLWN & Norfolk County Council. We have been assured that they will get around to them all eventually however if you do see any-where that is overgrown or if you find any pot holes in the roads. Please report this at https://apps.norfolk.gov.uk/HighwaysDefect/ or by telephoning 0344 800 8020.

We are still trying to update our Cemetery records and would be grateful for any information regarding graves you are responsible for. I know a few people have raised the question of why we need this information, this is be-cause when people move house they do not always inform us of a change of address. Also when people pass away the responsibility for the grave passes to the next of kin, again this information is not always passed on. So please if you are responsible for a grave and have not updated your information for a while please contact Cllr Dave Hawkins.

Dog fouling continues to be a problem both at the playing field and on the footpaths throughout the village, please be responsible pet owners and clean up after your dogs, waste bins are provided throughout the village.

Cllr Dave Paisley is working hard co-ordinating the speed-watch if anyone could spare a few hours each week to help out with this worthwhile project please contact Cllr Paisley.

The Village Hall is available to hire for parties and func-tions, there is a large room big enough for a Bouncy Castle as well as a kitchen area, toilets, outside area and parking. To book the hall please contact Mrs Nona Bourne 01760 338144

Any articles or items for inclusion should be forwarded to the Clerk by Friday 14th November 2016The views expressed in this publication are not necessarily those of Marham Parish Council.

Residents who would prefer a digital copy of Proposed & Seconded should contact the Parish Clerk.

The Parish Council held an event to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. We created a photographic exhibition in our village hall showing old and new photos of the village, News clippings, the school Log book dating back from 1910 and memorabilia of the era.

Many thanks to all those who donated photographs, without them there wouldn’t have been an exhibition. Village crafts stalls ranging from Glassworks to Quilting, cake sales and more were available to purchase, with the Raffle and Cake sales raising £582 towards the installation of a defibrillator to the village. The defibrillator will be the second in the village (the first at Donato’s Pizza & Kebab house), which can be used to restore the natural rhythm of the heart in a person who is experiencing a cardiac arrest. When a person is in cardiac arrest, time is of the essence. Mere minutes can be the difference between full recovery, and death or permanent damage.

The Marham Bells provided us with some lovely music while people ate locally donated cakes which was washed down with plenty of tea and coffee.

For the children a bouncy castle, colouring competition, fancy dress competition and ice cream sales kept them entertained.

To mark the occasion an Oak tree which had been grown from an acorn by Cllr Inga Barrett was planted by our oldest parishioner Mrs Stella Bedingfield aged 98 on the green opposite Hillside many thanks to Jodie Caley for preparing the site.

Many thanks to all who donated and to those who helped organise the event. I’m looking forward to the next planned Event at Christmas time.

Cllr Paul Walsingham, Mrs Stella Bedingfield, Cllr Inga Barratt, Cllr Jane Hipperson.

SWAFFHAM & LITCHAM HOME HOSPICEThe Fundraising Team continue to concentrate their efforts in bringing in the much needed funds for the Charity to continue the work by those excellent individuals who work out of our main building in Turbine Way, who look after the patients that are registered with us.Last month we staged our Town Collection and massed a total of £530.00, slightly down from last year but the response of the public is nothing but commitment. For those of you who donated, we thank you.

The afternoon Ladies WI presented us with a cheque for £350.00 in the Assembly Rooms on 14th June as a result of a Pamper Show. The Team decided this year to resurrect our rep-resentation at village gatherings, giving us the opportunity to explain who and what we endeavour and try to do. Last month we attended the Birthday Celebrations of the Queen at the village hall in Mar-ham. It was a success for all those who attended and we made many new friends. We have two others to attend one at Litcham and the other at Narborough. We have two forthcoming events organised by members of the public to look forward to. The first is a Coffee Morning at the Swaffham Conservative Club, Saturday 9th July 10am-1pm coffee, cakes and a raffle. The second is an Open Garden and Mind Body Spirit Day at 35 Watton Road, Swaffham, Saturday 30th July 11am-4pm, includes tombola, plants, and fairy gardens. Clairvoyant readings and refreshments. The Charity also has a Stall at the Wayland Show, so do come along and say hello to us.

The testing will be carried out by fully trained personnel trained by ICCM (Institute of cemetery and crematorium management) and will involve a visual inspection and a topple test, to ensure that the memorials are safe.

For any further information please contact Council-lor Dave Hawkins.

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH MARHAM

LIFE SAVERIf you have passed Donato’s Pizza and Kebab shop in the last month or so you may have spotted a large yellow box on the wall with a green sign above it.In April Jo from Donato’s in conjunction with RAF Marham raised the money for a AED to be installed. (For those like me who did not know what that is, it stands for Automated External Defibrillator).

RAF Marham raised a majority of the funds required but Jo and her business contributed a huge £500, paid for the installation of the box which has to be heated for any cold weather as the batteries could discharge if allowed to get too cold and in addition she has agreed that the business will pay all running and maintenance costs.

Jo had decided after the untimely passing of her mother from a heart attack that in her mother’s memory she should do everything she could to help if anyone in our village should ever need help when suffering a heart attack. A plaque will be placed to commemorate her adjacent to the box.

We are also fortunate to have some dedicated First Aid trainers at RAF Marham who have and will continue if required to train anyone in the use of the AED. Training sessions have already started and I urge all, young and old to do the training as I know all too well that heart problems can affect people of all ages and I would feel terrible if my child or grandchild (god forbid), needed the AED and I was too stupid not to have done the training. In the event of an emergency you phone 999 and if you require the use of the AED, the ambulance service will direct you to the box and give you the access code. Simply enter the code and open the box to access the AED but be aware the box is alarmed.

If for any reason such as tampering or a possible fault, the alarm will be set off a list of contacts is on the box the closest being Councillor Paisley No. 3 just 3 doors away. I can open the box and sort it out.

We are however fund raising for another Defibrillator to be located at the other end of the village as time is of the essence when the worst happens so anyone feeling generous can make a donation to any of the Parish Councillors.

Notice: Register of ElectorsThis year’s annual registration exercise will be taking place from August onwards with publication of a revised Register of Electors following on 1st Decem-ber. The first part of the registration process is the is-sue of a Household Enquiry Form. This will be pre-printed with the names of anyone currently reg-istered and a reply is needed regardless of whether or not any changes need to be made. Anyone whose name does not appear on the form and is aged 16 or over needs to be added and anyone no longer there deleted. The form will not itself register anyone new to an address; instead they will be sent an individual registration form.

The Electoral Registration Officer would very much appreciate householders’ co-operation in returning the Household Enquiry Form as quickly as possible. A prompt response to any individual registration forms issued would also be helpful. Online registra-tion is now available at www.gov.uk/registertovote and only takes a few minutes. If anything is unclear, householders or individuals can contact the Elector-al Helpline on 01553 616773.
