Safe Berth for Mayflower Model

On February 20, 2015, Former Governor Mark C. Fulcomer, Elder Susan Fogg Eisdorfer, Assistant Morristown Library Director Chad Leineaweaver, NJH & GC Director James Lewis, Model Builder William Young Wallace descendant Linda Parker and helper-at-large Jorge Esmart met at the North Jersey History & Genealogy Center in Morristown, NJ to affix a plaque bearing provenance information to the case of the Mayflower Model built by Linda’s father. This was a happy culmination to a project begun over a year ago.We were pleased that James Lewis agreed to be our guest at the 2013 Compact Day luncheon at the Old Fort Monmouth Officers Club – our last meeting at that venue during which we enjoyed the Young Abe Lincoln presentation. Chad Leinaweaver was our speaker at the 2014 Compact Day Luncheon, Forsgate Country Club, Jamesburg. Linda Parker is a daughter of William Young Wallace, creator of this magnificent model, and honored us with her presence at the dedication of the plaque. We are thrilled that this exceptional piece, done with such careful attention to detail and love, has found a public home where people can enjoy it. The model remains the property of the NJ Mayflower Society and we assume all responsibility for its care and maintenance. NJH & GC displays it in an appropriate public setting for all to see. NJH & GC has been a repository of such caliber that its resources have been used to verify Mayflower lines for the NJ Society for many years. We are delighted to have partnered with them on this project.

GSMD 2020 Coin Series Initiative

The first project of the GSMD 2020 Committee is to initiate a coin series to be issued in recognition of the May-flower voyage and the establishment of Plymouth Colony. We are working with other planning organizations by asking the U. S. Mint to issue a commemorative coin series for the 400th anniversary of the landing in Plymouth.

Congressman Bill Foster (IL) is sponsoring the bill for the coin initiative and is in need of Republican co-spon-sors. If the representative of your district is Republican, please call their office today and ask them to co-sponsor this bill. If your congressman is interested, they should contact Gary Timmons in Congressman Foster’s office at 202.225.3515 ASAP.

Further information may be found on the GSMD website at: www.themayflowersociety.org.
