TIEE Cc IUMILE - Official Jonrnrl' oftito Parish or St. Fandry r-'LRUIHED O~ SATURUAY BY JOEL II. SAb:*. Z & AN\IEW MII+;YNIER. Opelousas:s SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1st. 18:43. E*"•YVES D'AVY, Deputy Recorder of the Pa- rishof St. Landry. is a candidate for the office of tecorder, at the corpixg November election. Opelousas, October l1t4 1853. --- We respectfully inform our readers and the public in general, that notwithstanding the prevai- lia epidemic in our parish, the Opelousas Courier w:ll be delivered to subscribers every saturday morning as usual. 0trThose of our town sulb ' rs who do not receive their papers regu ill please send word to the office. Steamer Opelousas. We are requested by our old friend, Capt. O. HINCKLEY, to inform the citizens of St. Landry and surrounding parishes, that the steamer Opelousas will resume her trips between New Orleans and Washington, on SL'NDAY, 9th October instant. -- 40 Yellow Fever. The news, we daily recei;'e from Wishington, are always awful. Yellow Fever rages with great violence and the mortality is considerable. As to our town, the health is Mgtisfactory; we have not a single sick person amongst us, that is of yellow fever. We wish it would continue so. O'"We invite t• Delta, Picayune, Bulletin, Or- leanian and other papers to send their exchnnges to the Opelousas Courier and not to the Opelousae Ga- zette. Said paper has died for more than a year, and the Courier is now the ONLY paper published in the parish of St. Landry WrAeccording toa Il Uorrespondence, receiv- ed from Vermillionville, we learn that the Ope- louas' panic has also invaded our neighbors of La- fayette; most all the planters stop visiting Vermil- lienville; the town is a plain desert, and the plan- ters of the neighborhood are busily engaged in shutting hospitably their doors to travellers. Cote-Gelde, says the same correspondence, is healthy. The cotton-worms have made their ap- pearance 4about the coantry. The fever and chill is the only sickness prevailing. We have equally received a letter from Plaque- mine Brald from one of our Opelousas merchants, who had emigrated one of thtfirst; it appears that country-life .s not of his tastemilk and fresh pork not eactly his fancy. - We hope to see him in a couple of weeks, and treat him with a nice toddy. t"Several persons have, died of yellow fever in the parish of St. Martins. So says one of our currespondents. [Z7Por all hardened lumps, galls, stiffcomplaint, distemper, sore eyes, blindness, flatulent colic, sweeny, &c. in horses, H. G. FarreWls Arabian Liniment has acquired a reputation that no medi- cine of the kind ever enjoyed; and is equally effiea- cious for eaipelas, coughs and colds, Mit: rheum, sick headache, sore throat, barn, sore i;l- blaims, &c. in man. Correspeadance of the Opelonsas Cearier. We have received by last mail, the' following correspondance, with a request to publish it : NEW OaLE*aI, Sept. 26th, 1853. To the Editors of the Opeloas Courier. Find ing it usele akatttmpt to poeeed, as the mail retalWesdfrom Atta in a canoe, and there was no nbmB thle eoffsoouthey r- turmaete where they took the le G foar tlstlcity.- address you this, to eapain why theybave not arrived in accoreaase wiChs -the notice published in the Ddta, oftheir departure., To-day, by the Sarad Geoe., we send you a Physician, whom I have worked by theSte of, in attending at least 300patients, and wi ob e- commend as a gentleman, and one wh hoer to his prokesion,-also -several new euie,-they go to the Atchaltlaya, and from thence in a canoe or skifft the mout f the Little Devil, 25 miles- whete i t tc get men and boats from the steam• (now repalring), to take them up the 'Carblreab,40 miles, to Washington-and thereby escape the Big:Boiler or cannon of the Qua- rantie and shot guns, and oaths, by the Attakapas mail route. Opelousas:sSATURDAY, OCTOBER 1st. 18:43.

E*"•YVES D'AVY, Deputy Recorder of the Pa-rishof St. Landry. is a candidate for the office of

tecorder, at the corpixg November election.Opelousas, October l1t4 1853.

---We respectfully inform our readers and thepublic in general, that notwithstanding the prevai-lia epidemic in our parish, the Opelousas Courierw:ll be delivered to subscribers every saturdaymorning as usual.

0trThose of our town sulb ' rs who do notreceive their papers regu ill please sendword to the office.

Steamer Opelousas. We are requested by our old friend, Capt. O.

HINCKLEY, to inform the citizens of St. Landry andsurrounding parishes, that the steamer Opelousaswill resume her trips between New Orleans andWashington, on SL'NDAY, 9th October instant.-- 40

Yellow Fever. The news, we daily recei;'e from Wishington,

are always awful. Yellow Fever rages with greatviolence and the mortality is considerable.

As to our town, the health is Mgtisfactory; wehave not a single sick person amongst us, that is of

yellow fever. We wish it would continue so.

O'"We invite t• Delta, Picayune, Bulletin, Or-leanian and other papers to send their exchnnges tothe Opelousas Courier and not to the Opelousae Ga-zette. Said paper has died for more than a year, andthe Courier is now the ONLY paper published inthe parish of St. Landry

WrAeccording to a Il Uorrespondence, receiv-ed from Vermillionville, we learn that the Ope-louas' panic has also invaded our neighbors of La-fayette; most all the planters stop visiting Vermil-lienville; the town is a plain desert, and the plan-ters of the neighborhood are busily engaged inshutting hospitably their doors to travellers.

Cote-Gelde, says the same correspondence, ishealthy. The cotton-worms have made their ap-pearance 4about the coantry. The fever andchill is the only sickness prevailing.

We have equally received a letter from Plaque-mine Brald from one of our Opelousas merchants, who had emigrated one of thtfirst; it appears thatcountry-life .s not of his tastemilk and fresh porknot eactly his fancy. - We hope to see him in acouple of weeks, and treat him with a nice toddy.

t"Several persons have, died of yellow feverin the parish of St. Martins. So says one of ourcurrespondents.

[Z7Por all hardened lumps, galls, stiffcomplaint, distemper, sore eyes, blindness, flatulent colic, sweeny, &c. in horses, H. G. FarreWls ArabianLiniment has acquired a reputation that no medi-cine of the kind ever enjoyed; and is equally effiea-cious for eaipelas, coughs and colds, Mit: rheum, sick headache, sore throat, barn, sore i;l-blaims, &c. in man.

Correspeadance of the Opelonsas Cearier. We have received by last mail, the' following

correspondance, with a request to publish it :NEW OaLE*aI, Sept. 26th, 1853.

To the Editors of the Opeloas Courier.DEaR GEnTs.-Last friday, a week ago, on hear-

ing of the epidemic raging at Washington, on thesame day I sent a Physician by the way of Don-aldsonville mail line to their dasistance, and on theTuesday iollowing I also sent two experiencednurses, bothof whom are good cuppers.-The nur-ses overtook the Doctor at Donaldsonville, wherehe was in waiting for the mail stage, to go on hisjourney--they all proceeded to Lake Verret, 27miles from Donaldsonville; totake the small stea-mer which carries the mail to New Iberia, andthen to conneet itht the stage to Washington.-In this, they were-disappointed, as the boat wasaground in the Iake;and the mail had to be con-*eyed is ae t.remaiuing-48 hours withoutany " bm t tableplace to sleep,'save the mail wag--on, and withkt scercelyany thing to eat. Find

To-day, by the Sarad Geoe., we send you aPhysician, whom I have worked by theSte of, inattending at least 300patients, and wi ob e-commend as a gentleman, and one wh hoerto his prokesion,-also -several new euie,-theygo to the Atchaltlaya, and from thence in a canoeor skifft the mout f the Little Devil, 25 miles-whete i t tc get men and boats from thesteam• (now repalring), to take themup the 'Carblreab,40 miles, to Washington-andthereby escape the Big:Boiler or cannon of the Qua-rantie and shot guns, and oaths, by the Attakapasmail route.

You will see, I have spare no pains or e*peesto relievethe citizens of Washington, and in easemy old friends, who reside in the "Big Boiler couontry" should want my aid again, as ijit839, I will bethere in time;-also send them lnyen lp they Wantfrom the Howards, and I fea toothattheywillMon want help, as I hear bythe steamer Pleater to-day, that the yellow fever is in Pattersonville.God grant it otherwise.

It Is distressingly healthy here, at this time.-Miay your country soon be rid of the dreadfulscourge is the sincere wish of your obt. sert.
