MEDIA CENTER NEWS

Book Club Members The next scheduled meeting of the OMS Book Club will be December 11th at 8:15 A.M. in the media center. We will announce the Readers Rally team, form new book club groups, and enjoy refreshments and a game or two. Please don't forget to join us. It's never too late to join the OMS Book Club. Media Festival The OMS Student Media Festival will take place in the Media Center at Osborne in January. This event is a wonderful way for talented students to showcase their technology expertise (video projects, webpages, PowerPoint projects, etc.). Students may pick up entry forms in the Media Center. Just a reminder - entries for the school festival are due on Friday, December 14th. New Books The media center staff has ordered over 500 new books, most of which have just arrived. We have something for everyone. Encourage your student to check out a book or two to enjoy over the long winter break! RELAY FOR LIFE “LINKS FOR A CURE”

Our Relay for Life “Links for a Cure” campaign was a huge success! Thank you to students and their families for their generosity. We sold over 25,000 links and raised $6,274.95 for the American Cancer Society. The homeroom in each grade level that sold the most links will receive a Chick-fil-A breakfast sponsored by Student Council. The homerooms are Ms. Humphrey (6th Grade), Ms. Powell (7th Grade), and Ms. Seguin (8th Grade).

GWINNETT SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, AND TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION

The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST) has begun the registration process for the 2013-2014 school year. GSMST offers a unique high school experience for those students who have particular interests in the math, science, and technology fields.

Registration information for GSMST for the 2013-14 freshman class will be available through all GCPS middle schools on the GCPS web site (www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us) and on the GSMST web site (www.gsmst.org). Registration forms must be submitted by February 1, 2013, for consideration. GSMST is a charter school; therefore, enrollment for the 9th grade class is open to all students who are residents of the Gwinnett County School System district attendance zone and have completed the 8th grade. As this is a school of choice, it is highly recommended that parents and students review the GSMST curriculum and learn more about the school’s offerings before making a decision to register.

GSMST is hosting Informational Meetings at GSMST for interested parents and students at 7:00 pm on the following dates. While it is encouraged that parents and students attend with their cluster, all meetings are open to all parents and students. The meetings are scheduled on the following dates:

Tuesday, November 13, 2012 Archer Cluster, Central Gwinnett Cluster, Dacula Cluster, Lanier Cluster, Mill Creek Cluster, Mountain View Cluster, North Gwinnett Cluster

Thursday, December 13, 2012 Berkmar Cluster, Collins Hill Cluster, Duluth Cluster, Norcross Cluster, Peachtree Ridge Cluster

Tuesday, January 15, 2013 Brookwood Cluster, Grayson Cluster, Meadowcreek Cluster, Parkview Cluster, Shiloh Cluster, South Gwinnett Cluster

GSMST is located at 970 McElvaney Lane, Lawrenceville, GA 30044, 678-518-6700.

Registration materials can be accessed online and hard copies are available from the GSMST front office. All registration applications must be turned in directly to GSMST via mail or in person. NO Middle School will be submitting individual applications.

OMS BAND STUDENTS SHINE

The Georgia Music Educators Association District/All-State auditions for band were held December 1st at Creekland Middle School. Each year, band students sign up in September to take the district level audition. The auditions are very rigorous and require much practice and dedication to prepare. Through the process, select students are then invited to a second audition at the state level. Ultimately, the highest performing students statewide will come together and form the GMEA Middle School All-State Band.

This year, OMS will be represented by the following eleven students at the state level auditions in January.

Luke Christian Trumpet JC Petty Trombone Daniel Ramcharran Tenor Saxophone Kevin Shay Trumpet Justin Speregen Tuba Melvin Tabb Euphonium Kiko Tomei Baritone Saxophone Tito Tomei Trumpet Ana Lorton Oboe Karissa McCright Trombone Kyle Patel Alto Saxophone
