As a reminder, our July board meeting will be held the second Tuesday of the month due to the July 4 holiday. Inside this issue:

The Osprey Pointe volunteer Board of Directors continues to meet monthly to discuss and address the various issues of our community. In a recent meeting, one of the board members suggested that our neighborhood would benefit by having representation in our district’s CPAC (Citizens Planning Advisory Committee). Two of our neighbors have volunteered to apply for voting membership of CPAC, and we look forward to having them represent Osprey Pointe.

So…..what exactly is CPAC and what does the committee do? According to their website – “The primary purpose of the CPAC is to maintain open and effective communication between Jacksonville residents, businesses, neighborhoods, community organizations, educational institutions and city government.” Meetings for District 2 (which is our district) are held the sec-ond Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Jacksonville Executive at Craig Air-port - 855-1 Craig Drive 32225. CPAC meetings are open to the public. Meeting agendas, meeting summaries, contact information, and more are available on their website (CPAC District 2). Lakefront Homes Neighbors, please note the land along the lakes is private property and should not be considered a common area. Persons who go to the lakes with-out invitation are trespassing. Just as you would not like to see unknown individuals in your back yard, please be respectful of the back yards of the homes around the lakes.

Overnight Parking As dictated by our Covenants and Restrictions, Section 3.7, boats, trailers, and other non-permitted vehicles may not be parked in the drive-way or street. In addition, commer-cial vehicles, or permitted vehicles with advertising shall not be parked in public view on a regular basis. No vehicles should be parked in the street overnight. The HOA may en-force these restrictions in any lawful manner, including the imposition of fines for willful or repeated violations. Our C&Rs can be viewed at www.marvin-group.com/osprey-pointe-association.

Hurricanes As noted in our June edition, we are now in Hurri-cane Season. In addition to the tips previously provided, please make sure to keep storm drains adjacent to your property clear of debris. In the event of storms that bring a lot of rain, this will al-low the water to drain quickly and minimize flood-ing in the neighborhood.

Dues are Due! Don’t forget to pay your dues if you elected to use the installment option.

ARC Review Application If you plan to make any changes to the exteri-or of your home, please consult the Architec-tural Criteria and Guidelines, which you can obtain online at www.marvin-group.com/osprey-pointe-association. Click on “Architectural Review Application” to submit your form. It is important to do this BEFORE you begin work to avoid fines and/or a require-ment to ‘undo’ the work due to nonconform-ance with our covenants and restrictions.

Swim Time

Residents, if you use an umbrella, please re-member to close it as you exit the pool area. We have already lost one umbrella due to wind damage.

There have been some questions about the covered patio area—if the clubhouse is rent-ed, the covered area of the patio is included in the rental, for the use of the renter and their guests. However, the pool is open and available to all residents during normal pool hours, regardless of whether the club-house is being used. If the clubhouse is not rented, the covered area is available on a first come, first served basis. As always, please be courteous of your neigh-bors while using the common areas.

Neighborhood Happenings

Summer Kickoff

The luau theme continued on Saturday as families

gathered at the pool for a summer kickoff and bar-

becue. Although rain threatened early in the week,

the sum came out to make a perfect day to enjoy

the pool.

A big shout out to the neighbor who donated the

bundt cakes. Thank you!!!

SWABS—June

Residents got together June 9 for a luau-themed so-

cial evening featuring Polynesian-inspired foods and

interesting fun and games. Robert Steel and his six

pack ‘keg’ beat out several other strong contenders to

win a fabulous prize in the tacky tourist contest, and

everyone got in on the action as we were treated to

an authentic hula performance and lesson. Thanks to

all who participated!

SWABS—July

What to Plant:

Bedding Plants: Coleus, crossandra, ornamental pepper, and tropical milkweed planted now should

last until November. As the heat continues, keep annuals evenly moist.

Bulbs: Butterfly lily, gladiolus, and society garlic are bulbs that can be planted during the middle of

summer.

Vegetables: Watermelon, pepper, okra, southern pea, and eggplant can be planted now as long as

water is provided during dry spells. Watch for caterpillars and aphids on leaves and fruit.

Palms: Continue planting palms while the rainy season is in full swing. Support large palms with

braces for 6-8 months after planting. Nails should not be driven directly into a palm trunk.

What to Do:

Lawn insects: Lawn pests can be a problem this time of year. Before treating, find out if an insect is

the culprit and treat only the affected area. Rule out disease or sprinkler malfunction.

Solarize the vegetable garden. Use summer heat as a tool in preparing the vegetable garden for fall

planting. It takes four to six weeks to kill weeds, disease and nematodes, so start now.

Azaleas: Any pruning should be done by mid-July to protect developing buds for next spring’s

bloom.

Irrigation: An inexpensive rain shut off device can save money by overriding an irrigation system

when it rains. If one is already installed, check that it is operating properly.

Trees: Prepare for hurricane season by checking trees for damaged or weak branches and prune if

needed. Hire an ISA certified arborist.

Pests on Ornamental Plants: Caterpillars may be present on trees and shrubs. Large trees can nor-

mally withstand caterpillar feeding but specimen shrubs may need treatment if damage is exten-

sive.

Osprey Pointe is certainly “pet friendly”. At almost any time – day or evening – home owners en-joy walking their pets along our beautiful tree-lined streets. It certainly is a great way to meet your neighbors and for both owner and pet to get some exercise. Yet, pet owners should always be aware that along with the benefits of living in such a wonderful neighborhood comes the need to abide by certain etiquette.

Always clean up after your pet and avoid bringing pets into the playground and pool area.

Keep your pets leashed whenever they are outside. Many dogs love to run. Some, if the op-portunity arises, will chase cars or even become threatening or aggressive. No one, while walking, jogging or bicycling, wants to be bitten or feel the threat of being bitten by a dog. An unfortunate incident just recently took place. Be a considerate and responsible neighbor.

While walking with your dog, maintain a respectful space between your pet and approaching neighbors. Believe it or not, not everyone appreciates a dog jumping on them or licking/ sniff-ing at them.

Dogs bark. Yes, they do. If they bark a warning when a stranger comes to your door, great. If they bark a happy greeting when you come home from work, nice. If they bark continually - it’s definitely not cool. It awakens napping children and neighbors who work nights. It drives eve-ryone else crazy. Be considerate of your neighbors and don’t take advantage of their desire to “keep the peace”. Don’t let your dog(s) keep barking (Pssst, it’s against the law, too).

We enjoy a beautiful neighborhood that has many types of wildlife – ducks, geese, wood storks, egrets and ibis, etc. We also have four legged visitors. Some folks think it’s funny to en-courage their pets to chase these critters. It is not!

Protect your pets! Be aware that we recently have had coyotes in our neighborhood and, of course, the usual assortment of night visitors: raccoons, possums, armadillos and things I don’t want to think about. Even in a fenced backyard, be wary of letting your dogs out alone at night.
