MAY 2020
From the Grand Knight …
Brother Knights,
I hope this finds you and your family well and safe.
This certainly has been a challenging time for our
community and nation. However, I wish to share a
few ways that we as Knights of Columbus can help
our community.
First, we are collecting food, essentials and
monetary donations that will go to the Glen-Ed
Food Pantry. If you are able to do so safely, we
encourage you to help support this cause, as it is
needed now more than ever. We are all in this
together and we will help ensure that we leave
“No Neighbor Behind” in our community.
Another opportunity to help is to make an
appointment for our blood drive on Wednesday,
June 17 from 3:00-6:30pm at The Hall. Spaces are
already filling up, so contact Lynn Ripper at 618-
799-9255 today.
I also encourage you to dial in for our next online
Council Meeting on Monday, May 11 at 7:00pm to
get the latest information regarding council
activities and our ballot of officers for the 2020-
2021 fraternal year.
Finally, I wish to thank all those serving on the
front lines in helping our community and nation
battle thru this pandemic. Know that the council is
praying for their continued health and safety!
Thank you and God Bless,
Ryan Fitzpatrick, GK
Knight of the Month Lynn Ripper is our May Knight of the Month!
Lynn has been our blood drive chairman for the past several years. At the most recent blood drive, we collected a council record of 35 units!
Lynn serves on our scholarship committee and is currently the council’s Recorder, the 4th Degre assembly’s Faithful Admiral and the Fred Mills Board’s Treasurer.
Thank you, Lynn, for all your efforts!
Family of the Month
We are happy to recognize the Marcus Agustin family as our May family of the month!
Marcus is a part of the Team #3 fish fry dining room crew. Before heading off to college, Marcus’ daughter Katrina assisted with the dining room crew, as well, on numerous occasions. Both Marcus and Katrina are members of the St. Boniface Choir.
Marcus recently helped organize a weekly Zoom social hour for St. Boniface choir members during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, so they could still feel connected during this difficult time.
Marcus’ wife Xenia is a member of the local Daughters of Isabella Circle. She regularly volunteers her time selling desserts during our fish frys.

Generosity Soars at April Blood Drive
A great big thank you goes out to our members and their families who donated at our April
15 blood drive.
The drive was the largest in recent memory, as we exceeded our goal of 13 units by a whopping
22 units for a total of 35 units collected; an incredible response in light of the current COVID-19
pandemic.
We already have six scheduled appointments for our next sponsored blood drive on June 17!
To schedule an appointment, contact Lynn Ripper by phone at (618) 799-9255 or by email
at [email protected]. Or you can go to www.bloodcenter.org and use sponsor code 9920 to
schedule online. With your help, we can make this next drive even bigger than the last. All it costs
is a little bit of love.
First. Foremost. Always. We are Knights
Most of you know me as your K of C Field Agent but before that I’m a Brother Knight and, as such, I wanted to send you a quick note that reflects the posture of the Knights of Columbus and my own commitment to serve you and your family in unprecedented times.
As a framework, I want to employ five pillars that Supreme Knight Carl Anderson has pointed to as characteristics found in men who, in time of crisis, not only survive but lead.
First, we remain rooted in the truth of the
Faith. We pray for one another, for the sick and the dying and for the Church and world. In this, we remain true to Fr. McGivney’s vision of protecting families within the sure tracks of the Catholic Faith.
Second, the Knights can be counted on to step into the breach. When disasters strike, the Knights are there with our prayer and work, supporting first responders, providing shelter and assistance to those who may be affected.
Working as one, we remain united and strong.
Third, a Knight stays at his post. I know that many of you have concerns about health, finances, job security, savings and retirement, and these have only increased in recent days. I am here to help with those concerns and to answer any questions you may have.
We are ready to suffer for the good. It has fallen to us agents and our Supreme Council leadership to roll up our sleeves and get to work so we can remain effective as we work remotely and maintain social distance.
To that end, we are employing new technology that allows us to meet “virtually,” using secure video conference software. This allows us to see each other and to share a screen that features forms and other graphics.
Finally, a Knight maintains humble confidence. My commitment to you, our members and families, remains steady and is built not primarily on qualifications but on the strength of our Order, which has grown and strengthened over more than
138 years. Our Order is strong, and our guarantees remain in place.
As always, I stand ready to help. If you or anyone you know are in need of assistance of any kind during these trying times, please feel free to contact me.
Fraternally,
Michael M. Sullivan, FICF, LUTCF
