Nor does He want us to align our wills to His in order to avoid some kind of horrendous eter- nal consequence. That sounds like too much of a superficial power play on the part of God who continues to seek out His children in love. In order for these words to carry any type of significant meaning for us, they have to resonate with and touch us on a deeper level. They have to be able to connect some dots and have meaning for us in order for this promise to change our lives. Sometimes we get preoccupied with the uncertainty of our deaths. Not knowing when or how we will eventually die can be unsettling. But, more so than needing an answer to the “when” of death, the “what” of death answer we provide has more significance. What happens to us when we die? Whether we die during the natural course of our lives or when Christ comes again, the experience is the same. If we believe that we are meant to live in union with God eternally and that death com- pletes and does not diminish us, then it is worth our time and effort to wait in vigilant hope of the Lord’s coming in glory. Our journey back to God is something beautiful to be desired, not dreaded or feared. Sadly, many folks believe that life is no more than a random occurrence without any purpose- ful direction or meaning. Death is simply death and nothing more. For them, the Second Com- ing of Christ and God’s eternal promise have no meaning. When we understand the truth about who we are, it changes things up. We then can see ourselves as works in progress who have the choice to either resist the inspirations of the Divine Artist or give into the wonderful creativity of His will. Life awaiting the fullness of Christ to come becomes an unfolding of Di- vine surprises and abundant joy. God is eternally merciful, forgiving, and welcoming. It is only when we directly reject this gift and turn our backs on Love itself that we have anything to fear. 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

As the 2021/22 Catholic Services Appeal continues, we

are grateful to the parish families that have already made

their gift or pledge. For us to achieve our overall goal, it will

require the active involvement and personal sacrifice of all

members of our faith community. If you have not yet re-

sponded to the CSA, please set aside a moment to prayer-

fully consider a gift amount that reflects your blessings.

Your gift will help tremendously and, together with your

fellow parishioners, will enable the diocese to provide es-

sential pastoral, educational and human needs through-

out northern Wisconsin.

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE—November

14, 2021—33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“And then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in the clouds’ with great power and glory.”

Take a moment to ponder these words from today’s Gospel. How does this image make you

feel? For people to truly understand the significance of this message, something profound

has to happen within. If we find ourselves reacting with a sense of dread or fear, we have to

step back and ask why. Our answer will reveal a great deal about our relationship with God.

It’s hard to fall in love with a God of whom we are afraid. God does not want us to be afraid.

Nor does He want us to align our wills to His in order to avoid some kind of horrendous eter-

nal consequence. That sounds like too much of a superficial power play on the part of God

who continues to seek out His children in love.

In order for these words to carry any type of significant meaning for us, they have to resonate

with and touch us on a deeper level. They have to be able to connect some dots and have

meaning for us in order for this promise to change our lives. Sometimes we get preoccupied

with the uncertainty of our deaths. Not knowing when or how we will eventually die can be

unsettling. But, more so than needing an answer to the “when” of death, the “what” of death

answer we provide has more significance. What happens to us when we die? Whether we die

during the natural course of our lives or when Christ comes again, the experience is the

same. If we believe that we are meant to live in union with God eternally and that death com-

pletes and does not diminish us, then it is worth our time and effort to wait in vigilant hope of

the Lord’s coming in glory. Our journey back to God is something beautiful to be desired, not

dreaded or feared.

Sadly, many folks believe that life is no more than a random occurrence without any purpose-

ful direction or meaning. Death is simply death and nothing more. For them, the Second Com-

ing of Christ and God’s eternal promise have no meaning. When we understand the truth

about who we are, it changes things up. We then can see ourselves as works in progress who

have the choice to either resist the inspirations of the Divine Artist or give into the wonderful

creativity of His will. Life awaiting the fullness of Christ to come becomes an unfolding of Di-

vine surprises and abundant joy. God is eternally merciful, forgiving, and welcoming. It is only

when we directly reject this gift and turn our backs on Love itself that we have anything to

fear.

National Night of Prayer for Life—Takes place every year from 9 pm

December 8th to 1 am December 9. It was on the Feast of the Im-

maculate Conception (then celebrated on December 9) that Our Lady

of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the unborn, first ap-

peared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges

these two feasts to honor Our Blessed Mother and to pray for the

sanctity of all human life. St Therese Church in Phillips will hold this

celebration. Everyone is welcome to attend for an hour or two or the

entire evening

SYNOD OF THE WORLD’S BISHOPS—Pope Francis is convening a Synod of

the World’s Bishops in October of 2023 to discuss the very notion of

“Synodality,” with the three main themes being Communion, Participation

and Mission. Pope Francis has said that he sees this synod as a fulfill-

ment of the Second Vatican Council, the central teaching of which was the

Universal Call to Holiness. The Holy Father is asking us to grow in true

communion with the Lord and with each other. In preparation for the

Synod taking place in Rome in 2023, there will be two prior phases of the

Synod. The first phase will happen at our local, Diocesan level from this

October until April of 2022. We are being asked to pray and reflect with

the entire People of God on the mission of the Church and how the Holy

Spirit is moving to lead us into a deeper sense of and commitment to

Communion, Participation and Mission.

In the pews you will find a card titled “Synodal Prayer to the Holy Spirit.”

We will pray this prayer at every Mass until April 2022.During the second

phase, our Diocese will submit a report on our process to the United

States Council of Catholic Bishops –the USCCB –which will synthesize the

reports of the entire country. This work will then be submitted to the Vati-

can in preparation for the gathering of the universal Church in 2023.
