SUNDAY READINGS IN A WORDFIRST READING Jeremiah 33:1416(3C)

The time is coming when the LORD’s promise to Israel will be fulfilled. An offspring of David will come and bring justice for all nations of the world.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM 25:45, 89, 10, 14 To you, O Lord, I lift my soul.

SECOND READING 1 Thessalonians 3:124:2

Paul prayed to the Lord for the Christians of Thessalonica that their love for one another would overflow and that their hearts might be blameless and holy before God.

GOSPEL READING Luke 21:2528, 3436There will be signs in the heavens and great distress on the earth when the Son of Man comes in glory. Therefore, ’be vigilant at all times...to stand before the Son.

We are called to live virtuous lives, remain alert to

the signs in our lives, and to pray at all times.

FOCUS

READINGS, REFLECTIONS AND PRAYERS

PRAYER CORNER

Eternal God, ever faithful to your promises, hasten

that long awaited day when you will establish

justice in the land.

Lift from our hearts the weight of selfindulgence,

and strengthen us for holiness.

Amid chaos and confusion, let your people stand

secure. Raise our heads to greet the redemption

that is drawing near, the coming of our Lord Jesus

Christ with all his saints, your Son who was, who is

and who is to come, and who lives and reigns with

you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and

ever.

~ ADVENT REFLECTION ~

Today, as we take the first step on our path through Advent, let us recommit ourselves to being alert to the Lord moving through our days, even when we are going in the wrong direction.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we know that we are not always

attentive to you or grateful for the ways you give

meaning to our days. Help us to remember that you

will never leave us to wander this life lost and alone.

You are there Always

Advent 2018The Season of Advent begins this Sunday and initiates a brand new Church year. There are four Sundays and nearly four weeks to Advent. The Advent Season draws our attention to two very important events in our experience of Jesus Christ. First we are reminded of the Second Coming of Christ when, as it says 1 Corinthians 15, “He will place all His enemies under his feet.” We are also reminded the first coming of Jesus as a child in Bethlehem. The scripture which supports our observance of Advent is focused on the two comings of Christ.

God speaks to us through his scripture and teaches how to dispose ourselves to preparation for the Coming of the Lord. This year during Advent I recommend to our congregation a sequence of readings and meditations which are called the Lectio Divina, designed to provide us enrichment and focus during Advent season. These can be prayed any time during the current week of Advent. In each Sunday Bulletin during Advent 2018 I will include an appropriate Lectio Divina which can be prayed during that week of Advent. To use the Lectio Divina I recommend that you find a quiet place and give yourself 20 minutes minimally to read, reflect, contemplate and pray each Sunday’s Lectio Divina.

LECTURAS, REFLEXIONES Y ORACIONES

~ FR. GREGORY CHISHOLM, SJ~

SALMO RESPONSORIAL 24:4bc5ab, 89, 10 y 14

A ti, Señor, levanto mi alma.

a nuestros días.
