Welcome Sr. Doreen and Sr. Francina We would like to welcome Sr. Doreen Philippiah, SFB and Sr. Francina

Irudayanathan, SFB to our parish community. Sr. Doreen and Sr. Francina are members of the religious community “The Sisters of the Holy Family of Bordeaux”. They recently moved to Aylmer. Both sisters have experience in the area of religious education and sacramental preparation, and have offered

to help out at in this regard. We thank them for their generous offer and welcome them to our parish community. Initially the sisters will be helping out with our First Communion/First Reconciliation Preparation, Adult Faith

Formation, and Youth Ministry. Welcome Sisters!

Baptism Preparation – First Session of the fall is about to begin! The preparation for Baptism includes sessions on two consecutive Tuesday evenings. The first session begins on September 12, and the second session will follow on September 19 with the Baptisms to be celebrated on September 23 or September 24. You can register on-line from our website or by contacting the parish office at (819) 684-6926. So please share this information with friends and family members who might want to join us in these sessions. Welcoming New Parishioners to St. Mark’s St. Mark's Parish will hold a welcome dinner for new parishioners in September. If you are new to the parish and have not yet registered as a member you can register by using the form found at the entrance to the church. The Hospitality Ministers will be pleased to help you find the form. Once filled in you can put it in the collection basket at mass, return the form to the Hospitality Minster, or drop it off at the parish office. We look forward to welcoming you to St. Mark’s Parish. Youth Group Message The youth group would like to extend a big thank you to all those who took time out of their busy schedule to come support them at their end of year talent show! A big thank you to those as well who could not make it but supported the youth group by purchasing a ticket nonetheless! As we do every year, we ask for those wishing to help out in whatever capacity they can with the youth group to simply inquire at [email protected]. There is always a need for "event planning" or "activity planning" or "Thursday evenings" or "committee planning" or "outings" so if anything catches your eye, drop us an email! The youth group will start off their year with an informal "meet and greet" BBQ on September 16th. There will be a pick up at the church at 12:00 noon and we will be returning to the church at 2:00 pm. If you have not registered your child for the 2017-2018 youth group year yet, send us an email and we'll send you all the information required. Annual Commemorative Cemetery Service – St. Paul’s Church A commemorative cemetery service will be held at St. Paul’s cemetery on Sunday, September 17 at 3:00 p.m. We will be naming those dear to us who have passed on during the last year and whose burial was held at St. Paul’s cemetery. A reminder to bring your own chairs, and in the event that it rains please note that it will be held inside St. Paul’s Church. The St. Vincent de Paul National Week!! September 23 – 30 September, 2017. For more information on Quebec National Week, contact your nearest St. Vincent de Paul or visit the Quebec Regional Council Website at: ssvp.qc.ca

Aylmer Food Center – September 23 The inauguration of the Aylmer Food Centre will take place on Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m.. At 67 Convent Street. Everyone is invited. There will be a family festivity with games, activities for children, light food, music etc. Everyone is welcome!! A warm welcome to visitors and to new parishioners! Welcome to those who want to make their “faith-home” here with us. You may be new to Aylmer, or you may have been ‘away for a while’. Be assured that we love to have you among us! You are invited to join us for refreshments after Mass on the first and third Sundays of the month – a good opportunity to meet others in our parish community. Your children are welcome to participate in the children’s liturgies during the 9:00 and 11:00 Masses on Sunday mornings – a time when they join with other children to hear the Word of God in a way which they can understand. We would appreciate it if you introduced yourself to one of our hospitality ministers, or to Father John. It would also help if you could take the time to fill out a registration form, which you can get from a hospitality minister. The next time you are with us, you can drop off the registration form in the collection basket or give it to one of the hospitality ministers. Once again, welcome! Financial update from the Fabrique

We have changed how we provide information on the collection in order to provide parishioners with more useful information on our financial situation at St. Mark’s. We provide a comparison of income and expenses every month. We hope that this format will be useful to you, and we thank you for your generosity!

All Souls Day – Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 pm

Each year, the Church observes the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day) on November 2. It is a day on which we want to remember

the dead in light of our Christian faith, which holds that the dead are called to share in Christ’s victory of life over death. At the Mass, we will call forth the names of the persons whose funerals were held at St. Mark’s since last year’s All Souls Day. For each of them, we light a candle from the Easter

Candle as an expression of our Easter faith. The families who have had one of their members buried from St. Mark’s in the past year will receive a letter inviting them to this Mass. There may be parishioners who have experienced

the death of a close relative (such as father/mother, daughter/son, brother/sister) this past year, whose funeral was celebrated elsewhere. If you wish to have a close relative's name called forth as well, please let us know by calling the office at (819) 684-6926 or by sending an e-mail to the parish

office.

Development and Peace – Caritas Canada’s New Campaign

This fall, let’s pay tribute to women who build peace! Across the world, brave women are coming together to struggle, to resist and to build a more peaceful world. This fall, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada will introduce you to three of these women. Consult our material at devp.org/

campaign/resources and get acquainted with Luz Estella Cifuentes, a Colombian woman who leads an inter-ethnic political training school for peasant farmers, Afro-Colombian and Indigenous women; Jamila Safi, an Afghan woman who provides training for imams and women on women’s

rights; and Rabia Kadiry, a Syrian woman who organizes workshops to build social peace in Lebanon. For more information, visit devp.org/campaign.

FOOD FOR THE FOOD BANK

St. Mark’s Parish has a wonderful tradition of collecting food for the food bank. Beginning Thanksgiving weekend (Oct 7-8) the food will be brought to the altar during the offertory procession, a sign of our commitment to those

in need. Please bring non-perishable food items, and place them in the baskets at the church doors when you come to mass.

Thank you for your generosity.

Coffee Sunday: Looking for someone to prepare and serve coffee, Sunday after the 9 AM

Registration for First Communion and Confirmation

Schools in Quebec no longer prepare children for First Communion and Confirmation. This is now done entirely in the parish. This provides us, as a

parish community, with a good opportunity to echo our faith to the next generation. Preparation for these sacraments takes several months, starting in October. We have set up an on-line registration process to make it easier for parents to register their children for First Communion and Confirmation. We ask you to share the information below about registration with your friends

and family members. Registration for First Communion (ages 7+) and Confirmation (ages 15+) can be done either:

on-line at www.stmarksaylmer.ca (under Sacraments); or By contacting the parish office at (819) 684-6926 for more details

Adults wanting to be baptized or confirmed

Adults wanting to be baptized or confirmed Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist are known as the sacraments of initiation. We usually associate

these sacraments (which include First Communion) with children. Increasingly, older teenagers and adults are realizing that they have been baptized, but have not celebrated any other sacraments. Or that they have

made their First Communion, but not been confirmed. This is quite commonplace today, and provides us with an opportunity to journey with

adults who wish to be confirmed and join the community at the Eucharistic table. Together, we prepare for these sacraments in an adult way, respecting the life experience and faith journey of each person. Would you like to be

baptized? Would you like to be confirmed? Would you like to journey with other adults who are preparing for these sacraments? If so, please contact

Tracey for further information at the parish office at (819) 684-6926.

St. Mark’s Parking Lot You may have noticed that the parking spaces have recently been repainted by a parishioner who would like to remain anonymous. A very special thank you to this generous parishioner who devoted their time and equipment for

the good of the parish. Blessings to you!

Have you ever considered including St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church as a beneficiary in your will? Your gift will enable the parish to continue its mission. Thank you.
