Other times it may seems like there is no hope in our future. For most of us, when we are experiencing these thoughts or feelings we turn to God, placing ourselves in his hands through prayer, both privately and in community. Somehow, in the end we always seem to come through these burdensome and troubling times. I find this quote from Ephesians very centering. It reminds me that God is always at work within us. It reminds me that we can accomplish anything with the help of God. It reminds me that as a church, that we are a “We” and not an “I”. It seems like the quote is asking us to imagine what we can accomplish with the “power at work within us.” It takes many hands to get the task done. Nothing is unachievable if we put our minds and hearts to the task. When we pray together and work to- gether, great things can and will be accomplished. Now is the time for we! As you know we have some large task to accomplish ahead of us. We have a major building repair to take care of, new staff to hire and train, while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy in the building and in our worship services. You may be asking yourself (and if your not, consider this your invitation), “What can I do to help?” First and foremost, I think the biggest way to help is to have an open mind. We may need to try new things, tweak old ways of doing things, let go of some old tra- ditions while trying some new ideas. What has worked in the past may or may not work going forward, so it is important to be open to where God is leading us in this congregation. Secondly, use prayer as a tool. If you’re being asked to consider helping to fund a building repair, trying a new way of worshiping, or making a shift from the status quo, discern through prayer. From the Pastor “Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask for or imagine by

his power at work within us.” -Eph. 3:20 At times, it feels like our burdens and troubling thoughts seem almost too large to handle. It seems

like the quote is asking us to imagine what we can accomplish with the “power at work within us.” It takes many hands to get the task done. Nothing is unachievable

if we put our minds and hearts to the task. When we pray together and work to-

gether, great things can and will be accomplished. Now is the time for we!

As you know we have some large task to accomplish ahead of us. We have a major building repair to take care of, new staff to hire and train, while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy in the building and in our worship services.

You may be asking yourself (and if your not, consider this your invitation), “What

can I do to help?”

First and foremost, I think the biggest way to help is to have an open mind. We may need to try new things, tweak old ways of doing things, let go of some old tra-ditions while trying some new ideas. What has worked in the past may or may not

work going forward, so it is important to be open to where God is leading us in

this congregation.

Secondly, use prayer as a tool. If you’re being asked to consider helping to fund a building repair, trying a new way of worshiping, or making a shift from the status quo, discern through prayer. So often, people tend to say no, without prayerful thought and discernment. Some say, “I’ve already pledged!” and “I like the way we

I again want to thank all of this wonderful church family who so willingly helped, from setting up tables, rolling silverware, baking the cornbread, making coleslaw, and baked beans. And then there were all the servers, ticket takers, and those who sold tickets, runners for chicken, pop, charcoal, and ice. Last but not least, all those who stayed and tore down, scrubbed and cleaned and put things away. You guys are great. And of course none of this would have happened if Bill and Karen Groover hadn’t cooked and donated their labor. I heard so many wonderful com-pliments of how moist and flavorful the chicken was!! YOU GO BIG BELLY BBQ!!!! The break down is this: Expenses were from Save A Lot, Dollar store, Palmers, Paton’s, Walmart, Breen’s of Palmyra, and ads, which came to $1158.19. Our gross amount was $3467.00. This gave us a profit of $2308.31!! Let's put that in our pocket with cheers for all. Thanks again.

The Glenn R. Stevens award ($100.00) and the Alex & Peg Mechie Memorial Fund award ($500.00) were pre-sented at Park Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 23 at the 10:00 A.M. worship service to graduating Senior, Elizabeth Lang, daughter of Lee & Stephanie Lang. The Glenn R Stevens Award recognizes scholarship, ability to get along with oth-ers, and activity in the church. The Alex & Peg Mechie Memorial Fund Award is presented to a graduating senior who is a member of Park Presbyteri-an Church and plans on continuing his/her educa-tion at an institution of higher learning. At Park Church Elizabeth has served as a Deacon,

Sunday School/Nursery helper, played in the bell choir, and assisted with summer Vacation Bible School. In addition to her busy school schedule, she works part-time in the Wegmans Pharmacy. Elizabeth, an honor roll student at Newark High School, is a member of Student Council, Interact, PLANT, Jr. NAVA and Link

Crew. She participated in High School volleyball, track, and softball. Elizabeth re-cently completed her training as an Emergency Medical Technician and is now a cer-tified EMT. She plans to attend St John Fisher College pursuing a career in pharma-cy.

do things, why change?” While others say, “It’s always worked fine the way we do things, if it’s not broke don’t fix it!” (yet we continue to decline in numbers at events, in worship, and in our finances). Do we need a change and a fresh outlook? Prayer and discernment is a way to enhance your spiritual life and your relationship with God and the church. If we each pray for the church’s overall health and discern what is best for all, and then brainstorm our thoughts together, we may be led to becoming involved in new and different ways or enhancing old traditions. As we begin the second half of 2019, the session is beginning to look at the status of the church, evaluating the current financial picture, involvement of the congregation (both in worship and events), and looking for new ways to bring church to those in the community. We are beginning to explore the Matthew 25 initiatives and will be studying the 1001 New Ways of Worship Success Stories to see if there are ideas that could be incorporated here at Park Church. If we continue down the same path as we currently are, we will continue to decline. It’s exciting, scary, challenging and in-spiring all at the same time to think of the possibilities.

Great things are yet to come at Park Church. It takes everyone working together

and being on board, and a commitment from all of us, to be open to where God is

leading us! Will you be open to joining us on this new adventure? I certainly hope so! Yours in Christ’s name-

The Mabel Hommer Memorial Newark CROP Walk was held on Saturday, May 4th. The weather was cool, without rain. Our church was represented with 11 walkers, who included Carol Thurston, Pat Hart, Christine Stephens, Sarah and Lucy Humph-rey, Kris Bald, Debbie McCrossen, Anne Rogers, Scott Blondell, and Nick and Ka-ren Cameron. $6600 was collected from the community, which included $2200 from Park Presbyterian Church alone. We well surpassed our goal!! THANK YOU to those who walked and took time out of your busy life to partici-pate in this valuable and most needed cause. Thank you to Bethany for your “behind the scenes” support. Many, many thanks to all of you, who so generously supported the walkers. As you can see, this church makes a huge difference. You are amazing and ALWAYS so willing to offer support to those in need!

Week of Hope is Back! Last year, Group Publishing in Colorado elected to cancel

the “Week of Hope” here in Wayne County. Enrolment

numbers were down nationwide, and several camps were

cancelled, but the plan was to bring it back in 2019. So,

after a year absence, the “Week of Hope” has returned to

Wayne County! Due to the structural issues here at Park,

the campers are being housed at Calvary Baptist Church

on Peirson Ave. This will also be coordinator Martha Bai-

ley’s last year. Give them a wave if you see them around!

Currently Ada and her two sons are located in their own apartment in Lyons. The boys are just finishing their final days at school and Ada is looking for work. They moved in on June 16. We are working on outfit-ting the apartment with basic items for living. Anne can furnish the list of items still needed if you are inter-ested in helping them. One volunteer outfitted the sons with fishing gear so they are looking forward to some summer fish frys. We are entering a new family con-sisting of a dad and his children, 9 months old and 3 years old. This family will need to be transported from the church where they are staying in the evening to the Day Center in Lyons since he does not have a license. If you could transport the family please volunteer on our web site or call Nancy Ramos at 315 665-1737 as she is now working as Family Promise Day Center Adminis-trator. She can also connect you with training sessions if you would like to volunteer during Park's hosting ro-tations. The other new employee is Molly Hanna who is our part time case manager. Because of our Church's structural problem we will not

be able to host here. Our gracious neighbors at First Methodist will allow us to house the family staffed by our volunteers on the week of September 22. We are also blessed to be able to host on October 27 at East Palmyra Reformed Church. Our volunteers will just need to go to that church to volunteer. We hope that all of us will be able to just walk across the street or drive for a few minutes to care for this family as we would if we were hosting at Park providing supper and support from 5:00-8:00 during the supper hour and for the overnight shifts. More details will be provided in next month’s Parkview. If you would like to know more or be a part of the wonderful blessing of volunteering for God's people who need a bit of help please feel free to contact Carol Thurston at [email protected], Linda Werts at [email protected] or Anne Rogers at [email protected].

Family Promise Update

A Monthly Devotion “Transformed by Beholding”

The greatest characteristic a Christian can exhibit is this completely unveiled openness before God, which al-lows that person’s life to become a mirror for others. When the Spirit fills us, we are transformed, and by be-holding God we become mirrors. You can always tell when someone has been beholding the glory of the Lord, because your inner spirit senses that he mirrors the Lord’s own character. Beware of anything that would spot or tarnish that mirror in you. It is almost always something good that will stain it—something good, but not what is best.

The most important rule for us is to concentrate on keeping our lives open to God. Let everything else in-cluding work, clothes, and food be set aside. The busy-

ness of things obscures our concentration on God. We must maintain a position of beholding Him, keeping our lives completely spiritual through and through. Let other things come and go as they will; let other people criticize us as they will; but never allow anything to ob-scure the life that “is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). Never let a hurried lifestyle dis-turb the relationship of abiding in Him. This is an easy thing to allow, but we must guard against it. The most difficult lesson of the Christian life is learning how to continue “beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord…”
