School assemblies:
• 13 13 High Schools. Over 9000 9000 Pupils.
Promotional campaign for safe travel on the bus.
• Posters, leaflets, new website etc.
More passes checked.
2828 new CCTV units fitted.
Number of bus bans issued = 223223
Students on Acceptable Behaviour Contracts = 1616
Visiting 60 Primary schools in run up to summer.
More pass checks.
Increasing Safer Travel publicity.

School Transport Contracts Update
• EU Framework Agreement is now in place. Starts 1st June• 2009-10 school tenders will be “business as usual” over the summer• BUT only those on Framework will receive tenders• Two phases of tenders this year – mid June and mid July• For existing contracts you must sign up to a revised set of contract
conditions by 29th May
• No re-tendering of whole schools planned this year• Melton school reorganisation

Efficiency/Savings challenges
• Our targets are tough • May get tougher (recent budget)• Quality must be maintained• Projects already in place:
- E-tendering (taxis)
- Reviewing many more
contracts and services
- Fleet review- SEN & SC reviews

EU Compliance• Local Bus Service tenders will be EU compliant from September
2009 (tenders going out from June)• As with other services (schools) we have revamped local bus

Working Group nominations
• Remit of the working group:– For both the Authority and bus companies to gain an insight and understanding of the aspects of contract work that are important to them and work together to address any general issues that may arise
– For LCC to pass on information on relevant policy or legislative changes, duty of care issues and general information affecting the bus market
– To discuss new ways of working and to work in partnership
– To look at all aspects of LCC contract work for mutual benefit
– To share the discussion with all in the market via the published minutes
• Please contact Dave Smith or a member of staff in the PTU with your nomination.
• We are looking for 1-2 people from approximately 10 companies to form the 2009/10 working group to meet 3 times between now and May 2010.
