DON’T MISS KIDTASTIC SUNDAY! The Town of Petrolia is pleased to announce a very special event that will take place on Sunday, July 3, 2016. The one-day event is being called KIDTASTIC SUNDAY and it will take place in Bridgeview Park, Petrolia.
This free, family event will start with the annual Kids Fishing Derby from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., where children of all ages are welcome to participate in different categories to achieve the same goal: catch the largest fish! The event is sponsored by CUPE and The Lambton Central Petrolia Optimist Club. Children are reminded to come with everything they might need to participate. Following the Kids Fishing Derby some very special guests will arrive to meet and greet the children. Marshall, Skye, and Chase – three members of the hugely popular PAW PATROL will be in the Park from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Lambton Central Petrolia Optimist Club Rubber Duck Race will take place at 11:00 a.m., and The Lambton Central Petrolia Optimist Club Fundraising BBQ will be available for breakfast and lunch.
That’s not all, the Marketing Team at Town Hall want to add a little fun to the Petrolia Line Road Construction Project, the “Big Dig”, so they have teamed up with Henry Heyink Construction to bring some heavy equipment for display, and have a “Big Dig” planned that
is just for kids! That’s right, a KIDS BIG DIG will take place at 1:00 p.m., children will be divided by age, and will dig for buried treasure in some big piles of dirt! There will be plenty of treasure to uncover, but only one child from each category will take home the “golden ticket” for a family getaway to an Ontario waterpark and resort! The prize, sponsored by First Step Travel in Petrolia is bound to create some huge excitement!
Further information regarding KIDTASTIC SUNDAY will be available shortly, and in the meantime, make plans to spend a fun, free, family Sunday in Bridgeview Park!

Doors Open This Weekend BY MELANIE IRWIN @MIrwinNews
It’s a chance to peer behind a door that usually says “staff only.” Doors Open Lambton County is being held this weekend. (June 11 and 12) County archivist and local Doors Open steering committee chair, Luke Stempien says 30 sites are participating and this year they’ve gone the extra mile. “We’ve got the Enbridge Solar Farm, you know, something the public wouldn’t normally be able to visit. We have Nemo Hall, a terrific second empire home in downtown Petrolia, which is a rare treat to go inside and explore the house of a former lumber baron,” says Stempien. Other sites include the Judith and Norman Alix Art Gallery and Refined Fool in Sarnia, Fairbank Oil in Oil Springs and Forest’s Kineto Theatre. Most sites will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday, but times are different at some locations. A full map of the sites and when they are open can be picked up from your
Lambton County Library branch or found at

Hillsdale Cemetery Tour 2016 Saturday, September 17th, 2016 - 12:00 noon - 4:00pm
Petrolia Heritage is thrilled to collaborate once again with Petrolia Community Theatre for the Hills-
dale Cemetery Walking Tour. The same format of brilliantly acted vignettes with enthusiastic
guides will be repeated with more interesting characters from Petrolia and Lambton County's past.
More secrets revealed. Join us. You'll be Surprised!
2016 marks 150 years since the incorporation of the Village of Petrolia on Dec. 13, 1866. This year
is also the 150th anniversary of the striking of the famous King Flowing Well on Nov. 23, 1866,
which heralded Petrolia's founding oil boom. Also, on Dec. 17, 1866, the Great Western Railway
reached Petrolia, which provided the means by which Petrolia's petroleum reached the world.
Remarkably, this triumvirate of seminal events in Petrolia's history all occurred within what must
have been an exciting three weeks.
None of these crucial events, on their own, or even in combination with but one of the others,
could have brought about the subsequent boom, in quite the way it unfolded, nor set the stage for
the unique story that became the founding mythology of Petrolia.
