Three times a year all 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th grade students in OUSD take the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) reading assessment which provides important data about students’ reading growth. This winter we noticed that our mid-year results were exceptional, surpassing previous end-of-year results! We expected to see this growth continue, and I am very happy to say that we were not disappointed. 58.7% are a year or more above grade level! This means that we moved over half of our students who were below grade level to “at or above”! I am also proud of our students who are currently below grade level: the majority had a year and a half or more of reading growth this year and are closing this gap. To close this gap our strong special education team, Ms. Jackson’s support, family engagement, and the hard work and caring of our teachers are all essential. No matter what a child’s current reading level, it is important that reading stays a part of the summer routine. All Kaiser students have summer access to Raz Kids. This has proven enormously successful. I encourage all families to set aside daily time for Raz Kids and pleasure reading this summer. On a different note, we have one more big celebration ahead. I look forward to seeing ALL Kaiser families at the Kaiser Alive Picnic this Friday! As this is the last Pink Panther of the year, I want to remind everyone to keep a close eye on Konstella messages over the summer. Also, be sure to note the start of school and registration dates that are on the next page in this edition of the Pink. Thanks for a great year! Wishing you a fun summer full of great books! ~ Dennis Guikema, Principal 80.4% of Kaiser students are reading at or above grade level!

Dear Kaiser Families:

Kaiser Elementary has some impressive reading growth to celebrate! Three times a year all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in OUSD take the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) reading assessment which provides important data about students’ reading growth.

As this is the last Pink Panther of the year, I want to remind everyone to keep a close eye on Konstellamessages over the summer. Also, be sure to note the start of school and registration dates that are onthe next page in this edition of the Pink.

Thanks for a great year! Wishing you a fun summer full of great books!

The Kaiser School Garden needs volunteers to water over the

Summer!

There is a sign-up sheet in front of the office. The garden will thrive with your help. The watering key will be hanging in front of Portable A (Ms. Margaret’s Room). Please just hang up when done. Thank you for your time and care!

Kaiser Elementary is grateful that an anonymous donor family has provided a $1,000 match to finish our year strong and ensure that we are well-positioned financially for a successful 2018-19 academic year. Please visit http://www.kaiserelementary.org/ and follow the "donate" button or drop off your checks or cash in the PTA drop-box, located to the left of the main office door.
