From the Principal

Welcome to the middle of Term Two. It has been five weeks of varied experiences and again has been busy every day. We are still experiencing both students and staff with flu like symptoms and also gastro therefore I remind you if your child is unwell and they need to stay at home please contact the front office by 9:30am so as we can record it, this is a state wide expectation. If we have not had a message or phone call we will try to make contact with you before the end of the lunch break.

Last Friday night Djanaya hosted a Movie Night for the community as part of her VCAL certificate and it was a fantastic evening. She had to not only plan the event but had to cost it, organise it and then run it, fine tuning all skills that employers are looking for in employees. She still has follow up work to finalise the event but she deserves to be proud of herself for a job well done.

Evie and Johnny are enjoying themselves at Leadership School this Term and are also putting a lot of effort into organising a community event, there will be more information when they return to school in third Term so please keep this in the back of your minds so as the two students are successfull in bringing the whole community together.

Just a reminder that due to Miss Smith and myself being in the classroom more we are unavailable to meet with parents without an appointment. We will make ourselves available for appointments but need advance warning to be able to be free at a specific time of the day. We are also available before school from 8am – if this suits any parents and most evenings we can be released from meetings.

Auskick is being offered to all the Primary students during Monday lunchtimes and they are able to bring their footy jumpers and boots to participate in these sessions. The students don’t officially have to sign up to the program but can join in the skills sessions. Gus Rowe has been a fantastic help being able to demonstrate all the skills and give feedback to support the younger students’ learning of the game.

Next week Cameron Symes is hosting the BIGGEST MORNING TEA at Werrimull P-12 School on Thursday May 30th at 11am. He is putting together a selection of cupcakes and hot drinks to offer staff, students and anyone in the community that is able to come and join in the fundraising efforts. As you are well aware this is a fundraiser that supports people impacted by cancer and there are very few of us that haven’t been touched by cancer in some way – whether it be a family member or friend – therefore Cam is trying to raise as much as possible as every little bit counts in the fight against this horrific disease.

Next Friday is our REVIEW and all parents should have received a letter in regards to a parent session. If you are available it would be greatly appreciated if you could make the time to have a conversation with our review panel as this sets the tone and pathway for the next four years at Werrimull P-12 School. I have already had a few apologies due to other commitments and I thank these parents and will pass this along to the review team.

We don’t have formal interviews at the end of this Term so if you would to catch up with any teachers please make an appointment through the front office or directly with the teacher via their email address.

Enjoy the next half of the Term and I implore you to keep up-to-date with the calendar both in the Pipeline and posted regularly on our school Facebook page as the days are full of activities and extra-curricular events.

Naplan

Well done to Max and Abby for completing the

Naplan testing this year. For the first time, all stu-

dents had to complete the testing online. Max and

Abby demonstrated excellent persistence and re-

silience to complete the tests and continue with

their learning in the classroom. Great effort guys!

Debating

The 3-6 students are getting involved in online

debating with several schools across Victoria. Our

first online debate will be on May the 29th with the

topic ‘Sports stars are paid too much’. We are the

affirmative team.

P-6 Information Reports

All students are currently learning how to write an

excellent information report. Our younger students

are learning about animals whereas the older stu-

dents are focusing on researching their own topic

choice to develop their information reports.

Our ‘Fin’tastic Learning...

STEM DAY 2019

Our 5/6 students will again have

Mungo Camp

By Grace, Keiara, Dawson-LBJ, Cheyenne, Michael, Mr Whittle and Mim.

We left school at 10:30am and had maccas on the way! We headed to 2019’s Mungo Youth

project. When we got there we had to setup our tents, in the wind! It was hard and we all gave

up! Eventually we set them up with our mattresses and sleeping bags. After that we had to

meet up in a circle. We learnt about the history of Mungo and the aboriginal people as well as

the tribes from around the area. The tribes are Paakantji and Ngyiampaa as well as the Mutthi

Mutthi. We had to walk through smoke that was made through eucalyptus and gum leaves.

This was to welcome us to their country and cleanse ourselves. Before tea we had to put a

thumbprint on a mat and explored the sand dunes and marquees. We had tea and went to bed

at 8:30pm.

During Wednesday we did team building exercises, Dawson’s team won (cheated). Jacinda

(GWS player) and Aaron (local tribe member) were Mungo mentors for the games we did. We

took the bus to Pastoralistis and Zanci to see the old shearing sheds. Dawson, Cheyenne and

Keiara were very impressed with Killing Kevin’s comedy that night.

On Thursday we visited the walls of China. That was where they found the remains of Mungo

man and Mungo woman. We followed Mick Kelly and his guide to see the large Mallee fowl

that was drawn in the sand with white ochre around it. We listened to stories from Auntie Ber-

ryl. On Thursday night it was pouring rain and was forecast to flood!

On our final day we said goodbye to our friends that were from Hunters Hill, Sydney. In the

morning we had to wait for permission from the head camp leader to see if it was okay to

drive back to Mildura due to the rain. It was okay, so we left at 10:30am. We enjoyed Maccas

at Irymple on our way home.

Millewa Pre-School

What’s Happening

This Term at the Millewa Pre-School we are exploring science, natural history and dinosaurs through our dramatic play area and a range of experience and experiments. It’s always interesting to see then engage with challenging materials outside of what they know so we look forward to in depth conversations around a variety of topics.

We’ve been busy these past two weeks getting involved in a range of learning through play both indoors and outdoors when the weather permits. The children have been challenging themselves to try new things such as going across the rope scramble bridge or balancing on the see-saw to develop their gross motor skills. They’ve also been expanding on their verbal skills, engaging in deeper levels of conversation with their peers and the adults they encounter throughout the kindergarten day. They are taking more control of their learning and are becoming more confident learners as a result when things get a little bit tricky.

If you have any questions regarding any kindergarten matters please don’t hesitate to contact me on either [email protected], 5028 1251 (M, W, Th or F) or 5028 1293.

have shared snack each day and

ask that you bring along one

thing to share each day with the

rest of the group. If you send

along something bigger, such as a
