At The Oratory Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration

August 3, 2014 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Eucharistic Adoration is the act of worshiping God as He is present in the Blessed Sacrament. In adoration, one enters into the mystery of the same Christ who suffered, died, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. You can come at any time to visit our Eucharistic Lord who waits with arms wide open and with a heart burning for love of you. At the Oratory we are blessed to have Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, meaning that our Lord is exposed on the altar at all times of the day and night, except during Mass and chapel cleaning. The Fathers of the Oratory invite you to participate in this work of devotion by committing to spending an hour of the week in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament as a scheduled adorer.

Hours in Need of Regular Adorers: There are now 10 hours needing committed weekly adorers.

Sunday: 12am, 1pm, 6pm,Monday: 2am, 12pm Tuesday: 12pm, 4pm, 9pmWednesday: 2am, 9amThursday: 1amFriday: 12pmSaturday: 2am, 3am, 2pm !To sign up for an hour, please fill out a sign up sheet at the station in the front lobby, register online at www.pittsburghoratory.org/apostolate/adoration, or email Becca at [email protected]. !If you would like to adore regularly, but feel you cannot be solely responsible for an hour, please consider signing up as an adjunct adorer for an already filled hour or register as a substitute!

MASS AND CONFESSION SCHEDULESEE THE BULLETIN COVER FOR MASS AND CONFESSION TIMES

"Without the Holy Eucharist there would be no happiness in this world; life would be insupportable. When we receive Holy Communion, we receive our joy and our happiness. The good God, wishing to give Himself to us in the Sacrament of His Love, gave us a vast and great desire, which He alone can satisfy. In the presence of this beautiful Sacrament, we are like a person dying of thirst by the side of a river — he would only need to bend his head; like a person still remaining poor, close to a great treasure — he need only stretch out his hand. He who communicates loses himself in God like a drop of water in the ocean. They can no more be separated.” St. John Vianney

Classes & Special Events

The Secular Oratory Groups and Events !Many Oratories undertake their work and ministry in conjunction with what St. Philip called “the Secular Oratory.” By membership in the Secular Oratory the laity are united with the liturgical, spiritual, and catechetical work of the Oratory. We encourage all adults and families who attend the Oratory for any of its sacramental, devotional, or educational activities to register as a member of the Secular Oratory, and to be involved in its many groups. Please note that our Oratory is not a parish, and thus Secular Oratorians will need to be registered at their home parish. You can learn more by contacting [email protected] !The School of St. Philip Neri (Previously Schola Christi) The Second Saturday of Each Month, 7:00PM Please join us as we draw closer to our Lord by reflecting on the Christian life guided by the teachings and spirituality of St. Philip Neri. Our meeting will begin with prayer, followed by a reading from the life of St. Philip, a spiritual conference, reflection and discussion. The evening concludes with some tasty dolce and time for fellowship. Every three months all the Oratory Fathers and Brothers will join the Secular Oratory for dinner and discussion. !Fellowship, Bagels and Donuts Sundays, 12 noon, Newman Center Conference Room Join us for coffee and bagels each Sunday after the 11AM Mass. Come for the bagels and stay for the company! To help out contact Ren at [email protected] !Bagels & Bible Study: Sunday Mass Readings Wednesdays, 9AM, Newman Center Conference RoomAll are welcome to discuss the upcoming Sunday readings with Fr. Drew. Enjoy fellowship while we look more deeply into the Sunday Mass reading and hear what the Lord is telling us. Call Ren at 412-681-3181 for information. !Hearts Afire - First Friday Vigils The First Friday of each month, 8 -11PM; Confession, 7PM The Oratory Chapel Join us for a three hour prayer vigil before the Blessed Sacrament in devotion to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and to St. Philip Neri whose heart burned for love of God. Each hour consists of a Litany, an Act of Reparation, a Brief Reflection on the particular theme of the Vigil, a Hymn, Silent Prayer, and an Act of Consecration. Veneration of the Relic of St. Philip Neri takes place during the third hour. !Adult Spiritual Classic Book Study Wednesdays, 7:30- 8:30PM; Newman Center Conference Room The “Conferences” of St. John Cassian could be, and was, considered the advanced text on living the Christian life. This book, though written in the 4th century, remains refreshing and stirring: the way is not simple or quick, but it does point to a fuller life. Join us in “the quest to follow God in purity of heart.”

August 3, 2014 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Daughters of St. Philip Neri Responding to a call to live a “vocation within a vocation”Daughters of St. Philip Neri come from all walks of life, each seeking - in accordance with their particular calling - to enter and remain hidden close to the heart of Christ. Reflecting on the difficult situation in which Christ’s Church struggles, they resolve to make their humble contribution to renew the life of the priesthood through their dedication to Adoration, Reparation, and Spiritual Motherhood for Priests. Those who are interested in the Daughters of St. Philip Neri may pick up a brochure in the Oratory lobby, and contact Fr. David at [email protected]. !Love and Responsibility Summer Group Thursdays, 7:30PM, Newman Center Conference RoomThis group, which is open to all, will study the profound philosophical reflections in “Love and Responsibility” by St. John Paul, II about the human person and the relationship between men and women. The group will contemplate what it means to truly love others as God intends. The study will be led by Fr. Michael Darcy, C.O. and Rosalyn Rapsinski, TOB certification student. [email protected] for information. !!
