WELCOME TO PLEASANCE 2010

The Pleasance returns for its 26th season at the Edinburgh Fringe. 2010 is all set to be our best year yet. We are thrilled to be hosting a fabulous programme of the very best theatre, comedy, music and children’s shows. All in all, we are presenting over 220 shows in 23 venues across 3 sites.

Particularly exciting is the addition of our newest venue Pleasance at Ghillie Dhu, providing the best cabaret, live music, vaudeville and burlesque at the Fringe. The Pleasance Dome provides seven great spaces around a central atrium with cafes and bars. Finally, The Pleasance Courtyard is bigger than ever this year with two new spaces and the addition of our newest installation: Kidzone.

Catering for families at the Fringe to an unprecedented extent, Pleasance have built up their venues and programme to incorporate Kidzone (including the CIAO! Children’s Ark and Green based in the Courtyard), Kidzone Dropzone (children’s daycare), Super Mums Babysitting and more.

Countless exciting new theatre shows and events are lined up for the Pleasance this month. For the first time, we welcome the National Theatre of Scotland in a co-production with Frantic Assembly, Beautiful Burnout. Les Enfants Terribles will be transforming the whole Pleasance Dome for a one-night spectacular murder mystery musical, The Vaudevillians.

Highlights of our comedy section include Stephen K Amos, Al Murray, Reginald D Hunter, Tim Vine, Pappy’s, Nina Conti, Laura Solon, Pete Firman,

David O’Doherty, Tim Fitzhigham and Arthur Smith. As ever, we are committed to encouraging new talent, and the Charlie Hartill Special Reseve Fund is supporting four outstanding new comics who will perform in this year’s Comedy Reserve.

With so much to see, to do and to enjoy, there really is no time like the Pleasance.

Following the success of Pleasance’s 2009 Teepee On The Green, the brand new Pleasance Kidzone looks set to become the hub of family life at the Fringe. Situated amidst the Pleasance Courtyard, Kidzone’s centrepiece will be the CIAO! Children’s Ark (Ark on the Park). Built from recycled and reclaimed materials and powered by green energy, this expansive wooden vessel will house an exciting range of children’s activities, events, workshops and shows.

The Kidzone supports an extensive programme of children’s shows:

In the CIAO! Ark itself,

THE FAMILY-FRIENDLY FRINGE: KIDZONE

you’ll find John Hegley, Phil Kay, Monkey Music, School of Comedy, Long Nose Puppets, Tall Stories and storytelling sessions with Taletime Audio Stories.

Around the Pleasance, families will find even more choice of fantastic children’s shows. From Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play to Long Nose Puppets’s charming adaptation of Penguin, or even CBBC’s Dan and Jeff in Potted Panto, families are sure to find something spectacular.

Full listings are available in our dedicated Kidzone leaflets.

Adults may well be

Fringe nights out worry-free!

We hope you enjoy the whole programme, and that your Family Fringe experience becomes a Pleasance one.

The Pleasance Courtyard and Dome are two of the most successful and highly populated sites at the Fringe. Now, Pleasance is thrilled to introduce a third: The Pleasance at Ghillie Dhu.

Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s West End, Pleasance at Ghillie Dhu is a spectacular 200-Seat venue, offering sumptuous surroundings for audiences to enjoy the very best music and cabaret on offer

at the Fringe.This beautiful property

on Rutland Square dates back to the 1840s. Formerly holding the Berkley Casino, this building has recently undergone a £10 million transformation in preparation for the arrival of Ghillie Dhu.

Pleasance is proud to be hosting a full programme of shows at Ghillie Dhu.

From 9:30pm every night (excl. 9, 23 Aug), Vive Le Cabaret brings the biggest names from international entertainment in a dazzling show that is different every night. Put together by the team behind last year’s five-star, sell-out cabaret at The Voodoo Rooms and

hosted by cabaret legend Desmond O’Connor, Vive Le Cabaret is sure to delight.

Other highlights include the legendary Peter Straker celebrating 40 years in the business with songs and anecdotes, and Tony Award winner Frances Ruffelle performing spellbinding numbers. Late night entertainment comes in the form of Me! Me! Me!’s vaudeville and burlesque offerings, or even a modern twist on a traditional cileidh provided by The Burly Ceilidh Club.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Pleasance at Ghillie Dhu, open today.
