Similarities to the DREAM Act

Must have entered the United States before the age of 16 (i.e. 15 and younger)

Must have been present in the United States for at least five (5) consecutive years prior to enactment of the bill

Must have graduated from a United States high school, or have obtained a GED, or have been accepted into an institution of higher education (i.e. college/university)

Must be between the ages of 12 and 35 at the time of application

Must have good moral character

What is the Joaquin Luna Jr. Act?Commemorates the life of this once ambitious young

man.

Tested based on basic knowledge of U.S. History

and other core classes. (Required to score an A

grade on the test)

( Pass an extensive background check)

Complies with the Arizona’s immigration law(SB1070) or

other states that may implement similar laws.

Must maintain clean criminal record, in order to

remain in the program.

about the political and historical ignorance of

Arizona State Immigration Law (SB1070)

Purpose:The provisions of this

act are intended to work together to

discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of

aliens and economic activity by persons

unlawfully present in the United States.

There is more than meets the eye

A survey I conducted within Carl Wunsche, Sr. High School among 50

people.

“Where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully

present in the united states, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the

person.” (SB1070)

Question: “If you found yourself in the position of a

law enforcement official which one of these men would you more likely to

question their legal status if they've given you reasonable suspicion to believe

otherwise?

Chicago Passes the DREAM Act

The Illinois Dream Act will establish a

private fund, administered by a

volunteer state commission, to

make scholarships available to about 95,000 children of

undocumented immigrants who graduate from

Illinois high schools.

How much will it cost?

It will NOT cost the Illinois taxpayers a dime to invest in these

kids, many of whom have demonstrated

that they are talented enough to be

accepted into elite colleges and universities.

Why not help them? Enacting the Joaquin Luna Jr.

Act satisfies the needs of the registrant, and the concerns of the state immigration law of Arizona/future states that

are going to implement a similar law like SB1070.

This act gives children that do not have the option of

better life in their birthplace to gain one.
