High Achievers Assembly
PPHS held their annual High Achievers Ceremony on 21 February in the Hall in front of family and friends and the current Year 11 and 12 cohorts. We congratulated and celebrated students who achieved Band 5 or Band 6 results in their respective subjects as well as some of the outstanding ATAR results.
Mr T Bleyerveen provided the keynote address on behalf of PPHS which focused on motivation, preparation and goal setting which was followed by a very entertaining speech from Chris Liu who was the Dux of Year 12.
We concluded with a morning tea provided by our TAS department and the Year 11 Hospitality students which was enjoyed by all. Thanks must go to the office staff, CAPA and TAS departments, Year 11 Hospitality students and the speakers for their role in making this a very successful ceremony. Mr Millican Deputy Princpal

Student Wellbeing Update In Week 4 of this term, Picnic Point High School initiated a procedure to support our students and families to maintain good attendance habits at high school. To compliment the current SMS for non-attendance, parents/carers of students who are late to school with no explanation will receive a notification SMS and a request for an explanation. Our aim is to reduce the number of unexplained late students and consequently improve educational outcomes. The results have been most encouraging, as the number of unjustified lateness have been steadily decreasing over the past 2 weeks. We hope that these positive results continue. We would like to congratulate Mr Ben Bleyerveen who is our new SRC coordinator. Kirsty Marquis Head Teacher Student Wellbeing
Sports Update On 19 February 2020, Picnic Point High School held their annual swimming carnival. After mother nature delivered us with some much needed rain the night before, we could not have asked for a better day. Our senior students certainly came dressed to impress and were only out matched by the action in the pool. We kicked off the day with a bang, with our under 12 competitors exciting the crowd. During the day, a number of races were highly contested demonstrating the strong swimming reputation Picnic Point High School has in the region. We even had four records broken on the day by Blake Macdonald, Samantha Battams and Marshall Lynch. In total, we had 46 students who qualified for Zone which is an amazing achievement for our school. Congratulations to everyone who was involved on the day! The Zone Swimming Carnival (BSSSA) was held a week later back at Max Parker Leisure Centre. Once again, the day was a ‘splashing success’ for Picnic Point High School, with 37 of our students progressing to Regionals. This was further highlighted with a number of zone age champions as well as Cooper Simmons winning the Boys’ Champion of Champions race and Samantha Battams a very close second. Wishing all our regional finalist good luck, keep calm and swim on! Ryan Silburn PDHPE
Year 7 Information Night On Tuesday 25 February we held our first Year 7 Parent Information Evening. It included presentations from every facet of our school; the School Counsellor, Rory McRae, Head Teacher of Teaching and Learning, David Rawlings, Head Teacher of Learning and Support, Michelle Harding, Head Teacher of Welfare, Kirsty Marquis, Deputy Principal, Andrew Millican and myself, Dimitra Poulos, speaking from my role as Year Adviser. With the presence of around 102 parents it was very motivating. Meeting the parents and understanding more about my Year 7’s was important. The parental feedback forms confirmed how successful our evening was in delivering important information in supporting our students. From my perspective it was an enjoyable evening and I welcomed the conversations and questions from parents. My role as Year Adviser thus far has been very rewarding and to see parents who want to maintain the relationship between school, student and teachers was inspiring and has established a positive bond which I am sure will serve for a great foundation. Thank you to the hardworking team I have the pleasure of working with. Without the staff mentioned above, I would not be able to assist and support our wonderful Year 7. Dimitra Poulos English Teacher Year 7 Adviser, 2020
