DDVVMC MANAGEMENT TEAM 2011-2012

The annual meeting of the club was held with the position of treasurer not being filled. This is a vital position and I feel confident that this position will be filled by a volunteer at the September meeting.

I congratulate all the people who have made themselves available to help run this wonderful club. Remember the more you put in the more you will get out from the club.

The petrol consumption rally was a huge success with approximately 45 entrants including cars and bikes from other clubs attending. Congratulations to Graham Allum for running such an outstanding event. He has set a high standard for the first rally this financial year.

The modifications to the kitchen have had a setback with a misunderstanding of prices. This has allowed time to consider other options. I will push ahead with plans and prices in September after the meeting.

The club house is being well used including our group of indoor bowlers. It would appear that someone else is also using the bowling mats without the club’s knowledge. I would appreciate a call from those involved to assist with booking of the rooms. Trevor Hoffmann

PETROL CONSUMPTION RALLYWe had an excellent roll up with our car park full of vehicles (there were no spaces and the back carpark had to be utilized). Visitors from the Vintage Touring Club and a couple from the Hudson/Essex group joined us for the weekend. We also had a very good attendance from our own club members.

The Saturday evening wasn’t as well attended as the Sunday but our visitors seemed to enjoy the pizza meal and film evening.

The Sunday rally took us to Goombungee and this comparatively short run was an excellent course to test the great variety of vehicles in attendance.

The winner was a visiting vintage Essex roadster that achieved over 50 m.p.g. Another notable achievement was Des Ham’s giant Buick with 22 m.p.g. There were five class trophies, an overall winner and the worst consumption.

This is consistently the best attended rally that we have on our yearly program and the weekend format could be a winner. The club hasn’t held an annual weekend event since the EDSEL FALCONER MEMORIAL RALLY folded in the eighties.

Another outcome was the timing of the rally. In the past we have conducted the event earlier in the year, but because of a crowded calendar, this run was held over to August. This worked out well and could be a better date for the future as it’s the first rally date of the club year and a new rally director would normally not have time to prepare an event at short notice.

One of the outstanding aspects of the weekend was the hospitality provided by Ann Cox and the many club members who helped. Even the clean up went well with quite a number of members prepared to help. Unfortunately, others ( and it’s often the same ones) are the first to get out the door. Please try to be helpful at future events by doing simple things such as placing your rubbish in the bins provided, stacking a few chairs etc.

Once again, thanks to Graham Allum and his family for a job well done. Interestingly, Graham has taken on the presidency of the Queensland Historic Motor Council.

RALLY ROUNDUPCARNIVAL WEEK 17th to 25th SeptemberThere are a number of opportunities for members to use their cars during the carnival. Firstly, a number of open cars are required for the parade to transport the carnival ambassadors. Secondly, the club organises the annual CARNIVAL CLASSIC car show in Queen’s Park on the Saturday of the parade.

We have staged this event for a number of years now and money raised is given to charity. To display your vehicle there is an entry fee of around $10 and there are many worthwhile trophies to be won. There was an entry form in last month’s newsletter.

Finally on the last weekend of the carnival, there is a need for cars for rides around the CBD. This year the festivities are centred around the EAT STREET section of Margaret St.For further information contact Jeff Brown on 0403 454 332

OCTOBERWe have been invited to display our vehicles at the Museum of Army Flying annual fly in on the weekend of the 1/2 October. There will be more details in next month’s RAG.

RALLY TEAMFor the next 12 months many club members have volunteered to organise a monthly rally. Lynne and I didn’t really want to continue with the rally director’s position but with the added help, we should be able to offer many very interesting runs. I believe this is the main function of the club and the more people who develop rally skills especially rally setting skills, the better it will be for the future of the old car movement.

Thanks to those volunteers who have offered to set a rally.

Every model of Ford’s cars was made of this time-tested steel and proved to be the leading material in

Henry Ford’s automobile production. The infamous Ford logo, still present on all Ford vehicles today, was designed by C.H. Wills and like his Vanadium steel, it has withstood the test of time. Wills had accomplished much when employed by the Ford Motor Company which was still in the early stages of producing world class automobiles. Wills left the Ford company on his own volition in 1919 to pursue designing and manufacturing his own automobile.Below is a 1922 Wills St Clair Roadster A68
