Dear Parents, The all-important third angle of our educational tri- angle was completed this week, and will be again next week, when our partners in chinuch (education) of our students – the parents – joined us at Back to School Night. The informational evening served to put a face to the name of your child’s teachers and to share and discuss the goals for your child’s educa- tional growth for the year. The call for action was sounded repeatedly through the evening; we want our parent partners to be involved beyond the signing of tests and homework. Research shows that when children see their parents involved in their school, it promotes a sense of belonging and community, as well as creating a role model for Jewish leadership for the children to follow. I can’t tell you how grati- fying it was to see a whole group of preschool par- ents in our hallways this Thursday morning as they waited to drop off their children. It was the power of rabim (many) and what we really want for our parent body; comradery and a sense of community. So please, keep up the connection and join us through- out the year as we maximize the potential of YOUR school and help make it another great year in your child’s life. It’s time for Shabbat! Last year a wildly successful Shabbat program in South Africa made headlines across the Jewish world. This year it is coming to America, nationally, and to Cherry Hill, locally. This event will take place in seven weeks, on October 24-25, Shabbat Parshat Noach. The Shabbat of Parashat Lech Lecha, 2013, was historic for the South Africa Jewry. Under the banner of “The Shabbos Project,” thousands upon thousands of Jews throughout the country kept Shabbat for the very first time. South African Jews of all ages and stages, from all walks of life and backgrounds, across all levels of mitzvah observance and involvement, joined together to keep Shabbat. Inspiring stories poured in from across the community about how moved people were by the experience of keeping Shabbat for the first time. Stories have come in of people who barely make it to shul on Yom Kippur, yet kept this Shabbat properly. They describe how it has impacted their lives in a powerful and positive way, and how the experience opened their eyes to the joy, beauty, and light of the mitzvah. The Cherry Hill community is embracing this project through a variety of venues and we look forward to having our community’s Torah day school students help serve as ambassadors for the VIP day of the The Politz Press Parsha : Ki Tavo Candle Lighting Time: 6:55 September 12, 2014 How you can help our school, at no extra cost to you! ●Please send Box Tops for Education to the school office. ●Every family in the school has a $3000 scrip obligation. Aharon Yarimi is 4th Grade JudaicStudent of the Week!!!!!

This year got off to a great start! All middle school students viewedan anti-bullying bulletin board in Ms. Ray's class dur-ing the first few days of school. The students volun-tarily read it, and then signed the contract to preventbullying. Politz students are the BEST!!! Over thesummer, our students read a novel and then completedan assignment related to the book. In class, now, eighth graders are reading literature by Edgar Allan Poe. Next, theywill view the drawings of Harris Burdick and create their own mys-tery story based on his drawings. The seventh grader students arereading the TV play by Rod Serling called "The Monsters Are Dueon Maple Street." After analyzing the play, they will work on acreative writing assignment. Our sixth grade students are learningabout the writing process and reviewing the literary elements inevery short story. They are presently working on writing a spooky, scary story following the writing process. I am looking ahead to anexcellent school year with our wonderful group of middle school

Grade 4 is Set to Have a Great Year! It’s unbelievable to see how the התכ students are learning to be 'דmature young adults in such short time. Now that we are in 4th

grade, we move quickly and cover a lot of materialevery day! We’re honing our skills and earning שמוחdollars for our Rosh Chodesh store. Preparation שמוחfor Rosh Hashana has begun as we do and הבושתlearn about all the aspects of the Yom Tov. Everyone

Marley Goes to School by John Grogan

Marley Goes to School by John Grogan is an amusing storyabout Marley, an overly friendly and quite precocious, butlovable dog, who definitely has amind of his own. It is Cassie’sfirst day of school and she is allset to go, and so is Marley! However, Cassie’s parents haveother plans for Marley. As theyleave to walk Cassie to school, they put Marley in the back yardwhere he doesn’t stay for verylong! He digs a huge tunnel and crawls out of the yardand dashes off directly to Cassie’s school. He searches forCassie everywhere, but runs into a few obstacles (for theschool) along the way. He tries his “paw” at the copymachine, unsuccessfully, and then heads to the cafeteria. To his delight, the “lunch ladies” are cooking hot dogs, which Marley “wolfs” down to their dismay. After partici-pating in the school band, he then heads for the scienceclass, where he unfortunately, opens a cage full of whitemice, who quickly escape and scatter all over the school.Marley is soon apprehended by Principal Peabody, who tieshim to the radiator. Obviously, that doesn’t last long andthen the chase begins, as everyone in the school tries tostop Marley from further destruction. This delightful storyhas a happy ending, as Marley finds his way into the armsof his best friend, Cassie, who is as delighted to see Marleyas he is to see her! I would highly recommend reading thisbook to children ages four and up. The illustrations arecolorful and add to the hilarity of this light- hearted story. This enjoyable book is picture-perfect to read as wewelcome our children back to Politz for another wonderfulyear of school.

What an amazing start it has been in the 3 year nursery class! We have alreadymade beautiful cubby decorations complete with pictures of ourfavorite things. The children have also been very excited tolearn about the Chagim. Together, every day we have eagerlycreated wonderful projects as we look forward to celebratingRosh Hashana. Whether it is an apple mosaic, apple counting, orshofar making, the class loves learning about this happy holiday. The childrenwere especially excited when Morah Yael presented her own puppet show about“Mendy the Mouse.” Through this story, the children see how Mendy’s efforts tolearn how to sound the shofar, show him that he should never give up. The“delicious” children in three year nursery are always curious and eager to learn.Mrs. Moskowitz, Morah Racheli and Morah Yael are looking forward to providing afabulous experience for the students and insuring that they truly enjoy everyminute they spend with us at Politz.
