Dear Parents,The all-important third angle of our educational tri-angle was completed this week, and will be againnext week, when our partners in chinuch (education)of our students – the parents – joined us at Back toSchool Night. The informational evening served toput a face to the name of your child’s teachers and toshare and discuss the goals for your child’s educa-tional growth for the year. The call for action wassounded repeatedly through the evening; we wantour parent partners to be involved beyond the signingof tests and homework. Research shows that whenchildren see their parents involved in their school, itpromotes a sense of belonging and community, aswell as creating a role model for Jewish leadershipfor the children to follow. I can’t tell you how grati-fying it was to see a whole group of preschool par-ents in our hallways this Thursday morning as theywaited to drop off their children. It was the power ofrabim (many) and what we really want for our parentbody; comradery and a sense of community. Soplease, keep up the connection and join us through-out the year as we maximize the potential of YOURschool and help make it another great year in yourchild’s life. It’s time for Shabbat! Last year a wildly successfulShabbat program in South Africa made headlinesacross the Jewish world. This year it is coming toAmerica, nationally, and to Cherry Hill, locally. Thisevent will take place in seven weeks, on October24-25, Shabbat Parshat Noach.
The Shabbat of Parashat Lech Lecha, 2013, washistoric for the South Africa Jewry. Under the bannerof “The Shabbos Project,” thousands upon thousandsof Jews throughout the country kept Shabbat for thevery first time. South African Jews of all ages andstages, from all walks of life and backgrounds, acrossall levels of mitzvah observance and involvement, joined together to keep Shabbat. Inspiring storiespoured in from across the community about howmoved people were by the experience of keepingShabbat for the first time. Stories have come in ofpeople who barely make it to shul on Yom Kippur, yet kept this Shabbat properly. They describe how ithas impacted their lives in a powerful and positiveway, and how the experience opened their eyes to thejoy, beauty, and light of the mitzvah. The Cherry Hill community is embracing this projectthrough a variety of venues and we look forward tohaving our community’s Torah day school studentshelp serve as ambassadors for the VIP day of the

Talk about new age! Prudently using a few minutesof spare time at the end of art class, Mrs. Moskowitzwas reading the fourth grade class an ethical dilem-ma from a book authored by Judge Judy. The ques-tion posed was: What you would do if you are in adoctor’s office and you see a page in a magazine thatyou really want. Would you ask the receptionistpermission to take the page out, get the name andedition of the magazine and order it yourself, just ripit out or sneak out the whole magazine under yourjacket? Yoni Panitch raised his hand and solved thisthorny ethical dilemma by offering, “It’s simple –just take out your phone and take a picture of thepage!” To quote Arnold Fine A”H, (who just passedaway this week) the Jewish Press columnist whoauthored the popular I Remember When series– “Gofigure! It’s a new generation”.

They are presently working on writing a spooky, scary story following the writing process. I am looking ahead to anexcellent school year with our wonderful group of middle school

Marley Goes to School by John Grogan
Marley Goes to School by John Grogan is an amusing storyabout Marley, an overly friendly and quite precocious, butlovable dog, who definitely has amind of his own. It is Cassie’sfirst day of school and she is allset to go, and so is Marley! However, Cassie’s parents haveother plans for Marley. As theyleave to walk Cassie to school, they put Marley in the back yardwhere he doesn’t stay for verylong! He digs a huge tunnel and crawls out of the yardand dashes off directly to Cassie’s school. He searches forCassie everywhere, but runs into a few obstacles (for theschool) along the way. He tries his “paw” at the copymachine, unsuccessfully, and then heads to the cafeteria. To his delight, the “lunch ladies” are cooking hot dogs, which Marley “wolfs” down to their dismay. After partici-pating in the school band, he then heads for the scienceclass, where he unfortunately, opens a cage full of whitemice, who quickly escape and scatter all over the school.Marley is soon apprehended by Principal Peabody, who tieshim to the radiator. Obviously, that doesn’t last long andthen the chase begins, as everyone in the school tries tostop Marley from further destruction. This delightful storyhas a happy ending, as Marley finds his way into the armsof his best friend, Cassie, who is as delighted to see Marleyas he is to see her! I would highly recommend reading thisbook to children ages four and up. The illustrations arecolorful and add to the hilarity of this light- hearted story. This enjoyable book is picture-perfect to read as wewelcome our children back to Politz for another wonderfulyear of school.
What an amazing start it has been in the 3 year nursery class! We have alreadymade beautiful cubby decorations complete with pictures of ourfavorite things. The children have also been very excited tolearn about the Chagim. Together, every day we have eagerlycreated wonderful projects as we look forward to celebratingRosh Hashana. Whether it is an apple mosaic, apple counting, orshofar making, the class loves learning about this happy holiday. The childrenwere especially excited when Morah Yael presented her own puppet show about“Mendy the Mouse.” Through this story, the children see how Mendy’s efforts tolearn how to sound the shofar, show him that he should never give up. The“delicious” children in three year nursery are always curious and eager to learn.Mrs. Moskowitz, Morah Racheli and Morah Yael are looking forward to providing afabulous experience for the students and insuring that they truly enjoy everyminute they spend with us at Politz.
