Dear Parents and Carers, Swimming On Monday, Quarry Hill students who had been involved in the previous week’s Swimming Program had the opportunity to participate in the Swimming Carnival held at the Bendigo Aquatic Centre. The Grade 6 Pinnell 50 metre freestyle race for boys and girls were the first two events of the day. Ryan C was the winner of the boy’s event and Kayla S was the winner of the girl’s event. The weather was perfect for swimming with students eager to get in the water to cool off. A big thank you to Ross Turner and the staff, student teachers and parents who assisted on the day. New Staff Our staffing changes have now been finalised. New staff joining us in 2018:

Bev Gardiner – Business Manager (coming from Chatham PS)

Melanie Scholes – Teacher (coming from Girton)

Jessica Telford – Teacher (coming from Elmore PS)

Sam McCloud – Teacher (coming from Elmore PS) I would like to welcome them to Quarry Hill Primary School and look forward to working with them in the New Year. Grade Placements After input from many areas including students, staff and parents and many hours of deliberation, taking into consideration the needs of all students, the grade lists for 2018 have been finalised. Yesterday the students met their new teacher and were informed of their new classroom. When the students discuss their new class with you, it is important to be positive and enthusiastic, and support children through the transition process. Some children find change quite stressful, other children embrace change readily. It is important that families trust in our staff and our processes. If you have concerns, please see Anne Rochford or myself so that your child can be monitored closely over the first 3 weeks of Term 1. Children will not be moved from their allocated grade.

School Council As school winds down for 2017, I would like to thank all the members of the Quarry Hill School Council for the work they have done this year in supporting Anne and myself in providing the best possible educational outcomes for our students. These parent and teachers have ably assisted us in ensuring the effective running of the school as well as making sure that we comply with any requirements outlined by the Department of Education and Training. Parent Helpers Afternoon Tea Parent volunteers at Quarry Hill have offered a huge resource and support base for the school community throughout the year. There is a very long list of activities that parents, and community members have been involved. I would like to thank all the people that have taken time out of their busy schedules to participate in activities such as School Council, Parents and Friends Association, reading, excursions, camps, Working Bees, Human Powered Vehicle Grand Prix, Fresh Fruit Friday, sports, Library, Book Club, feeding the chickens – to name but a few. If you have contributed in some way this year and are free on Friday afternoon, we hope to see you there. We would encourage parents who can come along to stay on for the assembly beginning at 2.45pm. ‘Start Up’ Meetings 2018 for Grades 1 – 6 On Tuesday, January 30th, 2018, we will be conducting our ‘Start Up’ Meetings for Grades 1 - 6. Each student and his or her parents/carers attend for a scheduled 15-minute meeting with the classroom teacher. It is a chance to introduce yourselves and to discuss issues, concerns and expectations for the year. Even though this day is still a long way off, it is important to get the process underway before the end of the year! Attached to today’s newsletter is information required to log into this website. The bookings will open at 9.00am on

QHPS CHOIR PERFORMANCE This term has seen a lovely increase in Choir numbers with extra students choosing to join us for only the on-campus performances. The added enthusiasm and increased volume has been lovely! The Quarry Hill Primary Choir (contract members since Term 1) will be performing Christmas songs off-campus on 15th December. We will be travelling by bus to the Bendigo Marketplace followed by the Royal Freemasons (formally Elm Aged Care). Notes have been sent home and need to be signed and returned to Miss Steele or the school office prior to attending. Students are to wear full summer uniform with a blue polo (if possible). If desired students may also add a small Christmas decoration, like a tinsel wristband, Santa hat or brooch. Please remind your child to pack a water bottle and sandwich to snack on between the two performances. If parents wish to support the choir and listen to their performance they would be very welcome in front of the Marketplace Woolworths at about 10.30am. I know that the students loved their parents coming last year!
