Psalm 133 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore. "Joy" is the best single word description that I can offer regarding last Lord's Day when we celebrated this congregation's 85th year of existence. It was so good to have Clinton Davis with us, who served among the North "A" congregation for sixteen years from the 1960's through the early 1980's, and to have him lead our worship in song on Sunday morning and then to lead more songs in the singing celebration that afternoon. Clinton told me on Monday that this past weekend was the first time that he has led singing since the passing of his beloved wife, Marcella, but that the experience of leading singing last Sunday and then at the funeral for Jill Holder the next day helped prepare him to begin leading singing again in his home congregation.

Something over 300 sisters and brothers were in attendance for the singing celebration at 5:00 o'clock last Sunday afternoon, and we offered praise to God with great joy and enthusiasm. Among the congregations represented at this assembly were Eastside, Fairmont Park, Gardendale, Golf Course Road, Lee Street, Main Street, One Hope, and Westside. Seventeen or eighteen song leaders from the various congregations led us in singing more than thirty hymns -- thanks are due to Jeff Wickham for doing a great job in organizing this. And several others moved and set up extra chairs and set out hymnals on Saturday and Sunday. By the way, we were able to record the singing service and it is available for you to hear on the North "A" web page: http://nachurch.org/listen Thanks are due to Donna Campbell first for suggesting that we have a reception after the singing and for taking the lead in planning it. Then many others took up the challenge of decorating the Service Building and pre-paring refreshments. I would estimate that about half of those in attendance for the singing also participated in this time of joyful fellowship.
