Dear Women’s Funding Leaders, Partners and Allies,

welcome to New York!

It is our pleasure to welcome you to Brooklyn, New York, for Women’s Funding Network’s 2011 Annual Conference, The Power of Global Networks.

New York is a dynamic, bold and diverse community fi tting for a global conference of leaders in the women’s funding movement. New York isalso home to 28 members of Women’s Funding Network and is the largest city in the U.S. New York has a signifi cant impact on global commerce,fi nance, media, culture, art, fashion, research, education, and entertainment. As host of the United Nations Headquarters, it is also an important center for international affairs. Furthermore, the city’s 7,000 not-for-profi t organizations infl uence the local community as well as communitiesthroughout the world. Each of New York’s fi ve boroughs offers a unique cultural experience. Take some extra time to explore what The Bronx,Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island have to offer.

THE 2012 PROJECT: A YEAR OF OPPORTuNITY FOR wOMEN. dON’T GET MAd. GET EquAl! (Whitman) Learn about The 2012 Project, a U.S.-based, non-partisan campaign to recruit accomplished women to run for legislative offices in a critical election year. The campaign educates and inspires potential candidates and connects them with resources to help them succeed.

SAFETY, SECuRITY, SElF-dETERMINATION & lGBTI COMMuNITY ORGANIzING (Robinson) From anti-homosexual legislation in Uganda, to the shutdown of the ILGA-Asia conference in Indonesia, to teen suicides and school bullying in the U.S., violence against sexual and gender minorities is gaining visibility worldwide. Explore how to address safety and security in LGBTI communities and strengthen cross-movement collaboration.

THE INFANT MORTAlITY CRISIS IN THE u.S. (Brooklyn Writers, South Tower) Are you living in a U.S. city experiencing disparities in infant mortality statistics that rival the poorest of developing nations? Join peers for a discussion about this crisis, the impact of racism and possible social change strategies to address it.

THE BIRTHdAY PROJECT: THE vAlENTINE FOuNdATION GIvES THE GIFT OF PHIlANTHROPY (Brooklyn Actors, South Tower) In celebration of her 50th birthday, the late Phoebe Valentine decided to give friends the experience of philanthropy by sharing the gift of grantmaking. This process is now known as “The Birthday Project.” In 2010 the trustees of The Valentine Foundation adapted this idea as a 25th Anniversary Project where 10 pairs of donors and mentors engaged in a yearlong grantmaking process. CAROl JENkINS (Founding President, Women’s Media Center) Carol Jenkins is an award-winning writer, producer, former television anchor and correspondent, and media consultant. She is the founding president and board member of The Women’s Media Center, the groundbreaking non-profit aimed at increasing coverage and participation of women in the media. Ms. Jenkins has won numerous awards including an Emmy, the 2009 North Star News Prize, and the 2008 Women’s Equality Award. Friday at 12:00 PM.

MuSIMBI kANYORO (Director of the Population and Reproductive Health Program, The David and Lucile Packard Foundation) Director since 2007, Musimbi Kanyoro leads a program that makes grants in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and globally to organizations dedicated to reproductive health and its integration with global health, the environment and development issues. Previously CEO of the World YWCA, she has won several awards and authored 10 books and more than 100 articles. Saturday at 11:45 AM.

JOSEPH kEEFE (President and Chief Executive Officer, Pax World Management LLC) Under Joseph Keefe’s leadership, Pax World has become a leading innovator and asset manager in the rapidly growing field of Sustainable Investing – the full integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into investment analysis and decision making. He was named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics” by Ethisphere Magazine and serves as Co-Chair of the Carbon Coalition. Friday at 4:00 PM.

HElEN lAkEllY HuNT (Founder and President, The Sister Fund and Founding Chair of Women Moving Millions Campaign) Helen LaKelly Hunt is founder and president of The Sister Fund, a private women’s fund dedicated to the social, political, economic, and spiritual empowerment of women and girls. A women’s funding activist for over 25 years, Helen is an inductee in the National Women’s Hall of Fame and catalyzed the Women Moving Millions initiative along with her sister, Swanee Hunt. Thursday at 1:45 PM.

TONI lAlICH (Pianist) Toni Lalich is an Australian pianist who has accompanied students and profes-sional singers and instrumentalists in Melbourne, Victoria, for the past 18 years. Toni studied at the Franz Liszt Academy and the Victorian College of the Arts. She has recently worked as repetiteur with the premiere production of “Pecan Summer” by Deborah Cheetham, Australia’s first Indigenous Opera production. Friday at 12:00 PM.

JENSINE lARSEN (Founder, World Pulse) As a young journalist in Burma and the Amazon, Jensine Larsen discovered that some of the world’s most important stories are rarely mentioned in the mass media. Through her determination and persistence to reach out and connect, she became a new voice in global media. Touring around the world, she has appeared on NPR and Air America, presented keynotes at major corporations, universities and world forums, and has authored articles in international publications. FRANCINE lEFRAk (Founder, SAME SKY and CEO of Francine LeFrak Foundation) Francine LeFrak has captivated audiences with Tony award-winning Broadway productions and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning films hailed for putting a human face on important social issues. She founded SAME SKY in 2008, a trade-not-aid initiative that empowers HIV-positive women in Rwanda to become entrepreneurs and lead self-sustaining lives. Her numerous awards include the Women Together Award from the United Nations and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Thursday at 10:00 AM.

dAwN OlIvER (The Women’s Foundation of Greater Kansas City) Dawn Oliver is the Executive Director at The Women’s Foundation of Greater Kansas City. She has more than 30 years of experience working with nonprofits in the community, including her previous role as the Director of Development for the ALS Association Keith Worthington Chapter and work in development for the KU Endowment Association and Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.Thursday at 1:45 PM.

MICHElE OzuMBA (Chief Program Officer, Women’s Funding Network) In May, Michele Ozumba will be joining Women’s Funding Network as Chief Program Officer. For the past 10 years, Michele served as President and CEO of the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (G-CAPP). Previous experience includes serving as the Director of the Office of Adolescent Health at the Georgia Division of Public Health and 12 years as a lecturer in Urban Planning at the University of Nigeria. Thursday at 10:00 AM.

TOSHI REAGON (Singer, Songwriter and Guitarist) Described by Vibe magazine as “one helluva rock’n’roller-coaster ride,” Toshi Reagon is a one-woman celebration of all that’s dynamic, progressive and uplifting in American music. A versatile singer-songwriter-guitarist, Toshi has collaborated with top entertainment innovators for 30 years and moves audiences with her big-hearted approach to rock, blues, R&B, country, folk, spirituals and funk. Proudest performances include godfather Pete Seeger’s Madison Square Garden benefit and a White House music tribute. Thursday at 6:00 PM.

NICOlE REGAlAdO (Network Relations Manager, Women’s Funding Network) Nicole Regalado is the Network Relations Manager for Women’s Funding Network. She is a 2010 American Express Fellow for “Building the Next Generation of Women Leaders in the Non-Profit Sector,” a cohort of the National Council for Research on Women. Her passions lie in the intersection between art and social justice with a special interest in Afrobeat music and post-colonial movements and Himalayan Buddhist Art and Architecture. AMANdA ROSE (Founder, Connect the Dots Foundation and Twestival) Amanda Rose founded Connect the Dots Foundation in 2009 to craft fresh global campaigns and initiatives that use technology to connect people offline for a good cause. She is also the founder and architect of Twestival, an international volunteer effort to use social media like Twitter to raise money for important causes, such as health and education. TuTI B. SCOTT (President and Founder, Imagine Philanthropy) Tuti Scott serves as President and Founder of Imagine Philanthropy where she offers strategic counsel to organizations and their leadership. As a “spiritual jock”, Tuti has elevated conversations in the funding movement around health, movement, branding, and personal excellence. ElIzABETH SEJA MIN (Seja Min Strategy by Design) As Women’s Funding Network’s Senior Design Fellow, Elizabeth Seja Min is conducting a six-month project to scale up capacity across the network. Elizabeth has worked with women’s funds as a consultant, facilitator, trainer and executive coach and with leaders and teams in the broader social sector to extend their reach and infl uence, igniting creativity and innovation due to her many years as a professional musician, conductor and producer. dONNA SIMS wIlSON (Executive Vice President, CastleOak Securities, L.P.)Donna Sims Wilson is Executive Vice President of CastleOak Securities, L.P., a leading New York-based boutique investment bank. EllEN SPRENGER (Executive Coach and Founder, Spring Strategies) Ellen Sprenger is the founder of Spring Strategies and works to strengthen social justice and human rights leaders, organizations, movements and foundations through executive coaching, strategic planning, future scenarios, leadership development, organizational transformation and fi nancial sustainability. BECkY SYkES (Executive Director, Dallas Women’s Foundation) Becky Sykes has served as the President & CEO of the Dallas Women’s Foundation since 1999, now one of the largest women’s foundations in the network. The foundation grants out more than $2 million annually to local programs that benefi t women and girls. Becky was the founding chair of the foundation and her many recognitions include the Athena Award from the Dallas Regional Chamber.Friday at 9:15 AM.

lAuRIE TAYlOR (Performer, Urban Bush Women)Laurie Taylor is a New York based dancer/choreographer who has performed in a variety of repertory and choreographic projects by master artists such as Jawole Willa Jo Zollar of Urban Bush Women, a group that seeks to bring the untold and under-told histories and stories of disenfranchised people to light through dance. Other partnerships include the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Toronto Dance Theatre. Friday at 9:15 AM.

JACkIE vANdERBRuG (Managing Director, Criterion Ventures)As Managing Director of Criterion Ventures, Jackie VanderBrug leads major initiatives in various areas of social change, including her current focus, “women, fi sh and church.” Her background includes public (U.S. Congress), for-profi t (strategy consulting and telecom start up) and nonprofi t (fi rst generation college students) work. JACkI zEHNER (President, The Jacquelyn and Gregory Zehner Foundation) Jacki Zehner was the youngest woman and fi rst female trader invited into the partnership of Goldman Sachs in 1996. In 2002, she became a founding partner of Circle Financial Group, a private wealth management operation of a small group of women committed to effectively managing their families’ philanthropic activities.
