1st attacker is dribbling at speed at the defender…the defender must absorb and guide the attacker…not dive in.

If the attacker is back to goal, the defender must pressure and not allow a turn to face goal.

1. Outside backs rotate forward on the flanks and the other 3 defender rotate across to the ball side.

2. On every negative pass, the defense steps forward (“step” or “out” call) to condense the midfield space.

3. The back four tactical cues are to automatically expand back out if there is no pressure on the ball “drop” or to “hold” if there is pressure on the ball.

4. Once pressure is broken, all defenders together yell “drop” so that movements forward and back are coordinated.

5. If the holding midfielder is beaten the back four drop together and consolidate centrally.

1. Forwards (CF and 2 wingers) to move together as the ball is moving

2. As a player receives the ball, they have closed, eliminated options, made play very predictable and are moving in for the tackle.

3. If they just stop, good players on the ball will sort it out so they must create the trapping pocket and then move in for the tackle.
