springing from a consciousness of worth. 2. Inordinate self-esteem; an unreasonable

conceit of one's own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifests itself in lofty airs, distance, reserve, and often in contempt of others.

What pride does to men

Puffs them up to a position they didn’t earn Exalt themselves and not God Forget that they have nothing without God Brought destruction on themselves Defiles a man before God

Page 20: The Pride of Man. The Pharisee and the Tax Collector Luke 18:9-14 n 9. Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous,

What must we remember?

Not to trust in self but in God

Don’t despise others Remember God’s

mercy to us sinners If we exalt ourselves,

we will be abased Pride is an evil way

Pride leads to many things: contentions, shame, destruction, and defilement.

Our Christian service

Let’s remember we have been cleansed of our old sins: Romans 5:8- But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We serve God and not ourselves:

I Corinthians 6:20- For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Page 22: The Pride of Man. The Pharisee and the Tax Collector Luke 18:9-14 n 9. Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous,

Our lives should be humble As Christians our lives should be lived in

service to God. Christ was meek and lowly in heart We have nothing apart from God God gave us our lives through death of Jesus Obey God in all things

So are you like the tax collector or the Pharisee?

begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every

one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
