The Primary Update

Pre-K - Grade 1 April 18th, 2013

WELCOME PAGE

Dear Parents,

As we look forward to the final 10 weeks of this academic year, I'm sure there'll be a few more updates coming your way for you to enjoy. I hope you find this one interesting.

I am particularly pleased to read that students are so happy to be back after their Spring break.

Welcome back everyone!

All good wishes,

Sue Carpenter

Head of Primary

PRE-K

We were very happy to welcome everyone back after Spring break. We hope you all had a very relaxing break after a very busy second term. The children we delighted to see their friends in Pre-K again!

We have finished our ‘Animals’ theme. We learned about Jungle Animals, Farm Animals and Sea Creatures. Having looked on our interactive board at how fish breathe under water and spending some time observing and drawing the fish in our tank we became interested in bubbles! We made our own bubbles this week both indoors and outdoors. We had great fun bubble painting…especially when they popped on our noses!

KG1

KG1 have been learning about the topic of ‘Let’s Pretend’ in IPC. The children have had great fun role-playing in the dressing up corner and experimenting with different costumes, acting out different stories. This week the children enjoyed using puppets to act out a puppet show. They used their imagination to create a story using different voices. The children were asked to bring in a sock in order to make their own puppet. As a class we looked at pictures of sock puppets ranging from girls and boys to animals and superheroes. Each child used a paper template to design their puppet. They then used feathers, pipe cleaners, felt, buttons and many other items in order to re-create their design.

KG2

Last week in KG2 we got creative during ICT and labeled our paintings on what we would like to be when we grow up by typing it on the keyboard. We also enjoyed doing a recount on our Spring holiday and sharing it with our friends at school. We are excited to be back at school to learn!

GRADE 1

Grade one have settled back nicely into routine the second week back after their long spring break. This week the children have been practicing grammar in writing. At the start of the week the children learned about common nouns and proper nouns. They looked through various books and comprehensions to look for nouns. The children were given a challenge to come up with a noun for every letter of the alphabet using dictionaries and books. It is great to see all the children working so hard after their long break!

Looking for nouns.
