There is more to Ducted Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning than just the unit itself! A basic ducted unit is installed with duct and outlets to all spaces requiring heating or cooling. The temperature will be regulated by the single temperature gauge in one spot in the building, usually the Kitchen or Hall. This doesn’t take into account variables like: (1) Rooms with a lot of glass may be hotter than rooms with small windows (2) Rooms getting afternoon sun will be hotter than rooms on the shady side of the house. However, any house, office or other space consisting of various rooms can, for the sake of Air Conditioning Efficiency, be divided into sections or zones each controlled by a damper(s) to regulate air flow to better manage the temperature level. These could be: 1. Day & Night Zones 2. Separate Usage Zones (Kitchen & Lounge/ Kitchen & Bedrooms/ Kitchen & Dining/Games) 3. Specific Work Usage (Offices/Boardroom) The air conditioned space can then be selectively regulated via the dampers so that only the spaces in use have airflow. For example: 1. When there is little need to heat or cool bedrooms that are not in use during the day 2. An office boardroom doesn’t need continuous airflow when it may only be used once a week. By confining air flow to the spaces being occupied the A/C unit is allowed to work more efficiently and, because the whole volume of air is going into a smaller area, desired temperatures are reached quicker and maintained more easily. The use of this principle can result in real savings. For Example: If a large house is calculated to need a 20 Kilowatt Unit to effectively heat & cool the entire structure but further examination shows that, at any given time, only two thirds of the rooms/space are in use. With well designed zoning it is possible for the house to be satisfactorily serviced by a much smaller unit, providing a major up-front cost saving and ongoing power saving through the life of the unit. How well each zone can be regulated depends on the sophistication of the Damper control system being used. It could be: 1. A simple manual open/close system 2. A timer controlled open/close system 3. A more intuitive temperature sensitive variable flow system that reacts to the actual temperature in each room and/or timer controls. UniPoint SystemWhy waste energy by heating or cooling areas you are not using?

Radio Frequency System Directs air to areas in use - Increasing air conditioning efficiency

The Zonemaster Radio Frequency (RF) damper control system is similar to the UniPoint in that the RF system makes any ducted system more efficient by allowing air flow to rooms being used and stopping wasteful flow to unused spaces. This is a significant cost saving and a great benefit to the user in their ability to control the entire system from anywhere in the house. One hand-held controller is all that is needed. Extra controllers can be utilized, allowing you to keep one in the Lounge Room and one in the Master Bedroom. (Ideal for older or heritage houses with solid plaster wall and low roof applications where access to interior walls is difficult from above)

The system is 240volt and we suggest getting it installed at the same time as the ducted unit for greatest convenience.

The hidden advantage in using selective zoning is that, IF it is used properly and the zones are well planned, you could effectively only ever be heating or cooling half of the house! This means you can use a smaller unit than would be otherwise be possible without a zone control system. Considerable savings can be made.

NOTE: OPERATION PARAMETERSThe system is designed for the majority of Australian houses that are one storey with plasterboard or gyprock interior. The system’s range may be restricted in two storey or large house applications where the Radio Signal has to penetrate concrete slabs, double brick walls or steel barriers and where the distances are reaching the maximum range. In these instances a test unit should be used to ascertain acceptable operation (Available from your installer)

Receiver on Damper Motor

The Zonemaster VAV is a sophisticated Air Conditioner Management System that regulates temperature in each zone (both heating & cooling) by varying the volume of airflow from the Air Conditioning Unit.

It uses advanced electronics to continually sense the temperature in each zone and regulate the amount of cool or warm air so that the preset temperature is maintained. You may have a room in full sun and a study on the shady side of the house yet you want a similar temperature in both rooms. You program the VAV to the desired temperatures for each zone and the system will do the rest, varying the airflow to maintain the temperature you want in each room throughout the day. The VAV system is directing the available airflow where it is most needed, creating greater levels of comfort and efficiency.

An investment in a Zonemaster VAV can mean considerable savings in the size of the air conditioning unit needed and further savings through efficiency of flow management.

The Single Zone VAV system works on the same principal as the more sophisticated Multi Zone model explained above. It is designed to regulate one room or space that might be used infrequently but needs to be able to react to greatly increased heat loads in a short space of time. Some typical examples are:

• The Boardroom • The Dining Room

• The Lunchroom • The Home Theatre or Games Room

Each will instantly get an influx of people and require extra airflow to keep the temperature constant.

The Thermostat in the room controller senses the increased heat load and signals the Damper to open to maximum, to try and return the room to its set temperature. The only alternative to this is to keep the room air conditioned to the required level all the time which can be very wasteful in energy terms. It is programmable in similar fashion to the Multi Zone VAV above.

FEATURES:

• Senses changes in heat loads and automatically adjusts airflow accordingly

• Controls up to 16 zones

• Can be operated from all zones plus a central location

• Simple, one touch keypad operation

• Electronic zone labelling

• Supply air temperature safety function

• Activates powerful Variable Air Volume (VAV) dampers

• 5 year warranty

• All zones programmable for time and temperature

• Easy Installation 24 Volt Plug In

Single Zone VAV System

Remember that the VAV is managing air volume and not air temperature, which is set by the A/C unit. The VAV system will rarely achieve a temperature lower (cooling mode), or higher (heating mode) than that set by the A/C units temperature control.

All Zonemaster models are compatible with most Ducted Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners available in Australia. Please consult your installer.

The UniPoint system makes any ducted system more efficient by allowing air flow to rooms being used and stopping wasteful flow to unused spaces. One wall mounted controller is used to turn selected dampers on and off so that the available air flow is confined only to the rooms where it is needed.

Imagine you are sitting in the lounge after dinner and the kids have gone to bed. It’s been a hot day and everyone will need maximum cooling to get a good night’s rest. You use your Zonemaster UniPoint control to shut off all zones except the bedrooms. Restricting the airflow to the areas you need increases the available cool air and doesn’t waste power on cooling unoccupied rooms.

Maximum cooling for a comfortable night.

The UniPoint system is an on/off controller for up to 8 zones with the following features;

• Manual and programmable on/off time control

• LCD indicator for zone status and parameter display

• Real time clock with battery backup

• Room temp display using on board sensor

• 5-1-1 zone on/off program (5 Weekdays + Sat/Sun)

• Personalised zone labelling

• Easy Installation (24 volt plug in)

• Safety Protection

o Auto spill/ bypass – the designated spill zone is forced open if all zones switched off (to prevent Duct splitting)

o Temperature override – opens all dampers if air supply temperature is lower than low limit or exceeds high limit.

o After power loss all zones automatically return to previous on or off state when power restored

BENEFITS:

• Managing airflow so that the (cool or warm) air is only directed where you need it creates energy savings and greater comfort

• The programmable timer means that the zones can be set to open and shut at specific times for maximum efficiency

The MaxiPoint System

An upgrade of the UniPoint with up to 4 controllers (placed in different rooms) for greater convenience of use. Each controller interfaces with the others through a main control board (in the roof) so that the whole system can be accessed from any controller.

This means that the operator doesn’t have to walk from the bedroom to the kitchen to turn off the bedroom , they can use the extra control fitted in the bedroom. This is especially useful in large or two storey homes.
