The Experimental activities are carriedout in groups assisted bythe teachers and the tutors of the School, to whom students mayrefer on a regular basis. These activities include also students' participation toconservation works (thanks to formal agreements establishedbetween the School and the Superintendence for Architecturalproperty and Landscape of Liguria), while, for preliminaryanalyses and for designing conservation interventions, studentscan use the laboratory instruments and facilities of the Faculty.

These allow to carry out experimentations in the following sectors:- Direct, topographic, analytical and digital photogrammetry for

architectural survey;- Treatment and quantitative analysis of digital images;- Chemical and physical analyses of materials and decay

phenomena, with the support of the University or externallaboratories;- Non destructive analyses for the diagnosis of structural

deficiencies- Stratigraphic survey and dating techniques of building

components;- Experimental application of some treatment techniques on

stone and wooden artefacts;- Detailed conservation design through the integrated use of cad,

tri-dimensional and solidmodelling, data management;- Elaboration of contracts, reckonings, estimates.

The School pursues its objectives through a didactic organisationthat covers a span of two years, to which it should be added thetime necessary to complete the thesis. The overall amount ofteaching hours is subdivided into 50% of lectures and 50% ofapplication and experimental activities, whichmay include trainingperiods in public institutions, private enterprises or laboratoriesinvolved in heritage conservation/protection.The content and articulation of the courses along the biennium areorganised as follows:- first year is prevalently devoted to the teaching of analytical anddiagnostic methods of the building and its conditions;- second year to the study and the application of treatmenttechniques, to the administrative and financial management of theproject, to the urban scale of conservation; The studies and the design elaborations should always focus on abuilding selected in agreement with the teaching body and that bepossibly part of a real conservation programme. The thesis of specialisation is the occasion to run through theanalytical and design itinerary outlined above again, in the'professional' time-span of six months.

The programme of the school foresees at least 800 teaching hours(in the future, 120 ECTS) articulated in 50% lectures and 50%practical guided activities. The Council of the School establishes, for each biennium:- the articulation of the courses- the teaching disciplines (divided in didactic modules, whereneeded)- the hours allocated to lectures and practical activities;- the typology of the didactic methods- the laboratory activities- the propedeutical character of teaching subjects- the modalities to verify and evaluate the activity carriedout byeach student. The attendance to lectures and practical guided activities iscompulsory. The Council of the School can acknowledge, on the base ofappropriate documentation, the activities concerning the subjects ofthe specialization carriedout in Italy and abroad in research andprofessional laboratories. To facilitate students in the attendance of the 800 teaching hours, the School schedules the lectures in 6-10 days per month (fromNovember to June). To develop the annual exercises, it is foreseenan additional compulsory two-week period of attendance to bedistributed along the academic year, according to the needs of thestudents and in agreement with the teaching staff and tutors.

The duration of the Specialisation studies is fixed by statute in twoacademic years. This duration, however, covers a span of time of two calendar yearsand six months.

The School, following the regular attendanceof the courses and thedefence of the thesis, grants the title of:
