The Promise Of Salvation

John 3:16-17

John 3:16-17For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

17 For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

I. GOD’S PROMISE TO SAVE

A. It is an OLD Promise

Revelation 13:8All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

1 Peter 1:20He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you

Isaiah 45:22“Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.

Isaiah 43:11I, even I, am the LORD, and besides Me there is no savior.

B. It Is an ONGOING PromiseJohn 5:24“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life,

and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

Acts 16:31So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

C. It is an OPEN PromiseRevelation 22:17And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” and let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

John 6:37All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.

II. GOD’S POWER TO SAVE

A. He Has the Power to CALL the Sinner

Romans 3:11There is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God.

John 6:44No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 6:65And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”

John 1:9That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

Proverbs 27:1Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.

James 4:14Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

B. He has the POWER to convert the sinner

Psalm 103:12As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Isaiah 43:25“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.”

1 John 3:1-2Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

Romans 6:14For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

Romans 5:9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

C. He Has the POWER to Conserve the Saint.

John 10:28And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

Romans 8:38-39For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,

39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

III. GOD’S PROVISION TO SAVE

A. He Provided a PRECIOUS Substitute

John 3:16-17For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

17 For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Romans 5:6-8For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die;

yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

B. He Provided a PERFECT SacrificeHebrews 9:24-28For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true,

But into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another--

26 He would then have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

27 and as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

C. He Provided a PLAN of Salvation

John 3:16-17Romans: 10:9-10Acts 16:31

Romans: 10:9-10that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Acts 16:31So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
