When the going gets tough, Gibraltar gets going!

Whilst our European neighbours continue with the uphill struggle to regain control of their economies via a combination of spending cuts and painful tax rises, Gibraltar clearly continues to buck the trend.

Gibraltar’s success story and enviable lifestyle has not gone unnoticed further afield, and the first half of this year has seen international enquiries substantially up on the same period last year. Our office receives numerous international enquiries on a daily basis, and whilst some of those are speculative in nature, the vast majority are from successful companies seeking to benefit from our favourable tax regime and individuals seeking a better quality of life and lower taxes.

Nothing could have highlighted the growing awareness of Gibraltar more than when Channel 5 in the UK recently aired a programme on Gibraltar. In a matter of hours our website had over 1200 visits from UK residents and this follows the pattern of interest we have seen since the beginning of the year.

This overwhelming interest in Gibraltar has translated into unprecedented demand for all types of properties, and because of that, there is now an acute shortage of residential and office accommodation.

The issue for Gibraltar now is to find a way of stimulating construction projects to satisfy the increasing demand, and we need to find a way to overcome that hurdle if our property market is to continue growing from strength to strength.
