which the 2017 Eddy Awards will be presented to:

Kim Brown, Yvette Fouchi, John Francis, Jan and

Keith Gourgues, Lynda Leaber, Margo and Bob

Murphy, Missy Rousset, and Mary Lu and Joe Welch.

Congratulations to you all!

In addition to these Eddy Award recipients, we will

remember all those, living and deceased, who worked to

build this faith community as well as those who continue

to give and share. We’ll pray that God’s love for us and

our love for Him may continue to grow in our hearts and

in the hearts of our neighbors, children and grandchildren.

We invite everyone to join us in congratulating these

most deserving recipients. Look for details along with

Congratulations to Kayla Bonura, Kelly

Catalanotto, Nicholas Labrano and

Madison Lacoste! They will receive the

Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Louis

Cathedral on Pentecost Sunday, June 4.

Corpus Christi Procession

Our annual Corpus Christi Procession

will be held on Sunday, June 18,

following the 8 a.m. Mass. As we process

around the outside of the church on the

Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of

Christ, blessings from Our Eucharistic

Lord will be extended over our Parish toward the north,

south, east and west. Please join us in adoring Our Lord

and imploring His much-needed blessings.

On Saturday, June 24, parishioners and friends are invited to a farewell reception for Fr. Charles and Fr. Mark

in the cafeteria following the 4 p.m. Mass. Over the past few years, Fr. Charles and Fr. Mark have done much for our

parish, including faithful and regular celebration of the sacraments. Fr. Charles has been very active with our school,

altar servers, Parish School of Religion and CYO. Fr. Mark’s knowledge, expertise and leadership has also been an asset

to our parish. We have been blessed by their service here. We know they both will excel in their new positions, and we

send them off with our thanks and prayers.

Farewell to Fr. Charles Dussouy and Fr. Mark Raphael

It seems like just yesterday that I began

my first assignment as Parochial Vicar here

at St. Edward! I have truly enjoyed my 3

years here and will greatly miss this entire

parish. I have many great memories of

offering you the sacraments and being with

you as your priest during times of both joy and sorrow.

I ask you to please keep me in your prayers as I begin

my new assignment as Parochial Vicar at St. Jane de

Chantal in Abita Springs. All of you, including the school

children, will always have a special place in my heart.

You all have made my first assignment very special for

me!

I must thank Fr. Seiler for welcoming me and helping

me grow as a new priest as well as Fr. Mark for his

extraordinary knowledge and insights to our Faith; the

deacons and staff who are so helpful and enjoyable to

work with and the school faculty and staff. I am so

thankful for all of you. May God bless you always.

With love and prayers,

Fr. Charles

Six years ago, I was blessed to be allowed

to live in residence with you at St. Edward

Parish, and to offer Sacramental service to

you ever since. My time here will come to

an end in the first week of July, 2017, when

I will take up my new assignment as Pastor

of St. Louis King of France Parish, in the Bucktown area

of Metairie.

Please accept my gratitude for the kindness, generosity,

and hospitality you have shown since I joined you in

March of 2011. This transfer brings mixed feelings. I

have enjoyed my time here at St. Edward, and would be

happy to continue; yet my service as a pastor was ended

by Katrina twelve years ago, and it is time for me to

return to the ministry that first drew me to priesthood.

I ask your prayers at this time of transition, especially as

I will continue to teach Church History at Notre Dame

Seminary, and continue to serve as Director of Priest

Continuing Education. Know that I will remain always

grateful to you all.

God Bless,

Fr. Mark Raphael

Sacramentals Prepare Us

for Grace Sacramentals are sacred signs, “reminders,” instituted

by the Church which prepare us to receive the graces of the

sacraments and sanctify different circumstances of life. Sacraments,

on the other hand, were instituted by Christ and actually give us grace

itself. This month, our Evangelization Committee will have

sacramentals available in the back of church. Holy Cards featuring

“Our Lady of Prompt Succor” will be offered to help you pray for

protection from hurricanes during this storm season. Holy Water is

used as a sign of our Baptism in Christ. We bless ourselves, or our

children, with it while praying that we be kept pure from the stain of

sin in accord with our baptismal vows. Blessed salt is used in the Rite

of Exorcism. We can sprinkle it in our homes while praying that we

be wise and preserved from the corrupt influence of Satan.

Our congratulations to

Father Seiler on the 27th anniversary of his

Priestly Ordination on June 2

and

Father Charles on the 3rd anniversary of his

Priestly Ordination on June 7

Congratulations to the 2017 Graduating Class Of St. Edward School

Eucharistic Adoration Where are you going this summer? If you haven’t already made

your plans, you are probably thinking about it. Spiritually, we need to

think about the same question. Where are you going? Our destination

is Heaven and we need to be sure we have the right roadmap to get

there! Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you…that where I am,

you may be also…I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one

comes to the Father but by Me.” (John 14:3-6)

Take time now and make some spiritual plans. Make the Adoration

Chapel part of the roadmap on your journey. Spend time with Jesus,

because He is the only Way to get to our destination, Heaven! The

Adoration Chapel is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. New adorers are always welcome!

This month marks 13 years since our Adoration chapel

opened. Make plans now to join the adorers at the annual Mass and

Pot Luck Supper on August 19th! Come old adorers and new! More

details will be in next month’s issue of The Confessor.

Archdiocesan Outstanding

Parish Youth Awards in

2017!

We have a busy summer!

STEAM Cabbageball will

begin on June 12. We will

need help selling concessions

during the games. This is a fun

time for all involved!

We’ll participate in Relay for

Life again this year. This all night social and school fair-

style event benefits the American Cancer Society. Like a

relay race where racers pass a baton, teams of participants

always have a member walking a track all night, carrying

the team’s baton, while others support the cause through

food, games and other purchases. It begins at 6 p.m. on

June 14 and ends at 6 a.m. on June 15 at St. Angela

Merici. The overall theme is Oh, the Places We’ll Go To

Find a CURE. St. Edward’s theme is Mexico. On July

1-2, we will sell “luminary bags” after all of the Masses at

St. Edward for $5 each. These bags will be candle lit and

light the entire walking track. They serve as memorials to

those who have lost their battle with cancer. We

appreciate the continued support of St. Edward

parishioners.

Our next social will be on Sunday, June 25 following

the 4:30 p.m. Mass. Join us for our farewell party for

Fr. Charles!

GRANDPARENTS’ CLUB NEWS

What a lovely year we had with our children! Our

second City Park Night was a success and the Crawfeast

Cook-Off dessert proceeds bring us closer to our goal of

supplying the students and teachers with IPads for the

classrooms.

Our next venture is The Cool Zoo evening at Audubon

Zoo on June 10. Tickets are available at the gate for $15

each. No admittance to the zoo is required. It will be a

wonderful evening!

We hope everyone has a wonderful summer and we

look forward to the next school year. Tickets for the

August 25 City Park night may be purchased at the Back

to School Expo in August. See all of you there.

As usual, April and May were very busy months for the

men of STEAM! We hosted our 9th Annual Crawfeast

Cook-Off featuring the best crawfish in town! A special

thanks to our Chairmen, Robert LeNormand and Robert

Helmke, the entire Crawfeast Committee, Ladies Council,

Grandparents Club, CYO and the Marine Volunteers for

making this such a successful event. Over 1,000

attendees consumed over 5,000 pounds of crawfish!

We closed out our STEAM year in May by hosting the

annual End-of-Year Swim Party at Green Acres and our

Installation Banquet, where we celebrated our

contributions to the parish and school. We also welcomed

in next year’s officers:

Mitch Guillot – President

Mike LeJeune, Jr. – Vice President

Keith Quinette – Treasurer

Randall Bonura — Secretary

Join us in June for another season of Summer

Cabbageball for children entering grades PreK4

through 8th. This league is a fantastic and fun

event for the children of our parish! Thanks for

the hard work of our leaders, Kevin Lusignan and Keith

Quinette. Cheer on your favorite players every Monday

and Thursday evening from June 12 through July 20. Join

us, also, for another season of Adult Cabbageball on

Sunday nights in June and July! See all the details at
