The Official Newsletter of the Arizona State Capitol Chapter of NIGP
Well, Purchasing Month is behind us and we’re nowin full gear preparing for the rest of our busy year. Thanks goes out to Kristy Garcia, Cheryl Rentschelerand Betty Austin for making the arrangements for eachof the Purchasing month social events – and a specialthank you to all those who attended.
April has proven to be a very busy month for us. We started the monthwith our first Webinar of the year “Using Resources to DevelopSpecifications” with a whopping 37 registrants. It was a great turnout andvery informative session. The chapter also sponsored the National seminar“Introduction to Public Procurement”, which also had a tremendousturnout from not only our chapter members, but several NIGP membersfrom New Mexico as well as the other two Arizona chapters. Special thanksto Kristy Garcia her hospitality in taking care of our guests. The May Chapter Luncheon meeting is scheduled for May 8, 2012 at theAZ Dept of Transportation HDRC Facility. Our guest speakers for thismeeting will be Bill Munch, Director of Mesa Public Schools and JamesScarboro, Deputy Finance Director with the City of Phoenix. There’s been alot of talk recently about local preference so please plan on attending to hearwhat they have to share. Mark the date on your calendar as it’s time we “Get Back to Basics” withour procurement training. The 23rd Annual Regional Conference &Vendor Expo is scheduled for October 18th, 2012 at the Mesa ConventionCenter. Registration for vendors is open and we’ve had a great responseso far. The Regional Conference committee is diligently planning the sessionschedule and speakers for you and will hopefully have everything confirmedand ready to announce within the next couple of months. With all of the agency budget cuts and staff shortages, it is becomingmore difficult to find the time and funding to attend training. Your chapterofficers and committee members do their best at attempting to add value toall training opportunities and provide our chapter members with low cost orno cost training. If you have specific topics that you would like to seepresented at a Career Seminar or Webinar session, please forward them tothe appropriate committee member and we’ll do our best to accommodateyou. As always, I am thankful for the committee members and officers and toyou, the members, for all the support and trust you have in us. If you haveany comments or suggestions, please contact me or one of the other officersand we will gladly talk with you.
Sharon

Introduction to Public Procurement ClassApril 16-18, 2012
From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]Sent: Monday, April 23, 2012 2:14 PMTo: Austin, BettySubject: Thank You From Pat’s Run
Dear Betty,
On behalf of the Pats Run Race Committee, THANK YOU for sharing your time and talents as a member of the Pats RunRace Crew!
The 8th Annual Pats Run was the largest and most successful Pats Run to date, and your dedication as a volunteer trulymade a difference in making a positive impact on the 30,000 runners, walkers and spectators who united at Sun DevilStadium to honor Pats legacy on Saturday. From the pre-race activities of labeling race numbers and preparing team packets,to distributing race shirts, and keeping runners hydrated on race day•the event couldnt happen without each and every taskcompleted by our dedicated volunteers. Through the selfless donation of your time and efforts, you have exemplified one of thequalities many admired about Pat Tillman • his commitment to service.
Pats Run is the signature annual fundraiser for the Pat Tillman Foundation. Proceeds generated by the event support theTillman Military Scholars program that provides educational resources and scholarships to our nations veterans and theirspouses. To date, 171 Tillman Military Scholars have been awarded over $2.2 million in scholarship support to attendacademic institutions across the U.S. We encourage you to read their stories (http://www.pattillmanfoundation.org/tillman-military-scholars/scholar-map/) and take pride in the knowledge that you have directly helped further the Foundations effortsto reward those who have served our country.
A special thanks to our returning Race Crew members and the individuals who shared past experiences to train and leadothers in specific areas.
Each member of the Pats Run Race Crew is vital to the success of the event, and we hope to see you all again next year forthe 9th Annual Pats Run. Mark your calendars for Veterans Day • November 11, 2012 when online registration for volunteersand participants will open.
Thank you,Stephanie Ekstrand andSusan BrowVolunteer Coordinators
