THE PUSHKIN STATE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is one of the largest museums in Russia. It was founded in 1898 by Professor Ivan Tsvetaev and opened to the public on 31 May 1912 as the Emperor Alexander III Museum of Fine Arts of Moscow University. The Museum houses a collection of nearly 670 000 objects including paintings, sculpture, graphics, arts and crasts, photographs, archaeological and numismatic artefacts.

The permanent collection of the Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art comprises masterpieces of French Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and the avant-garde movements of the early 20th century which once belonged to the legendary Moscow collectors Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov. It features world-famous works by Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse and Picasso. The collection also includes painting and sculpture related to other artistic movements of the 20th century: Romanticism, Realism, Academicism, Symbolism and Abstraction. It is located on the second and third floors of the wing of a mansion which belonged to the princely Golitsyn family from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The first floor is used for temporary exhibitions.
