“He said, “Come”. Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.” M 14:29

When you hear Jesus calling, do you responded immediately and trust that He knows what He’s doing? If so, you are

walking on water! When we say “yes” to Jesus, we feel the power of his presence in our lives. We can feel the freedom it

gives us! Listen how Jesus is calling you to live the extraordinary life He has intended for you.

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Be still and know that I am God. Silence is sacred. Silence speaks

the language of the soul and is the foundation of all life and eternity itself. Silence takes us beyond the limits of our minds and allows us to seek and to love the essence of all love, perfect love,

and being. In silence, we can be non-verbally present to things and to God in ways that words cannot accomplish. We can discover,

encounter, and be present to truths that our minds struggle to conceive and then set aside the boxes we put around things when

comprehending them is challenging. We can know the unknowable and touch eternity when we encounter the core silence in our souls.

We can do this even on a noisy street and in the midst of the greatest distraction. Once we have made friends with silence, the

rambling noise of the world no longer seems to matter, and we can carry a deep forgiving peace within us, even when physical silence cannot be found. We know that we are loved, cared for, sustained,

nourished, embraced, and carried. There is nothing to fear in silence, and I can be present to myself in the same way that God is present to me. I can see myself as God sees me. All of my faults, weaknesses, imperfections, failings, and sinfulness melt away in

the abundance of God’s mercy. All of the worldly things we see as being important no longer are.

It is in silence that all of the barriers that divide us disappear. There is no more “yours” and “mine” but only the oneness of

“ours.” There is no longer a need to “figure things out,” and we tap into our desire to simply let things be. Silence is creative and

powerful and gives us hope. Silence is God’s greatest blessing. God became one with humanity in silence. It allows us to be one

with all of creation, with the moon and the stars and all of the creatures God has made. The smallest particle of creation radiates

with beauty. Silence allows us to soar beyond ourselves and connect in ways that the mind can only imagine. When all is quiet, we begin to see that it is only our fear that keeps us from the Lord.

It is our fear that causes us to sink and to fail. We can hear the gentle whisper that tells us to reach for God’s hand. We discover that we yearn for the salvation and wholeness that only God can

give to us. Be still my soul and be at peace. ©LPi

DON’T BE A LOSER

“You’re never a loser until you quit trying.” ~ Mike Ditka

None of us want to be considered a loser. I would say that all of us want to be considered winners in some way, shape, or form. Being successful is possible. It takes work, desire, and determination.

While we all want to be considered winners, there comes a point in our lives — maybe even on a somewhat regular basis — where we feel that we cannot continue and we begin to think that, perhaps, we should just give up. How many times in our lives have we come to that point?

It is never easy to consider giving up. Sadly, some people come to the conclusion that giving up is the only option available to them. Ditka reminds us that the only way to be considered a loser is to give up, to quit trying.

I think it is safe to assume that we have all experienced failure in our lives. We can all tell stories of what that failure did to us. For some, the failure caused us to take a step back, to evaluate why we failed, to make a new plan, and to try again. For others, the failure may have caused us to give up.

How many of us have kicked ourselves later for giving up on something or someone in the past. Come on. Don’t be afraid to raise your hands. You know that we have all done that at one point or another in our lives. When we quit trying and gave up, we felt like miserable losers.

But, do you remember the thrill when later — maybe weeks or months or years later — you decided to pick up and try again? Do you remember what it felt like when you finally succeeded?

None of us have to be losers. All of us can try: again and again and again. The quality of a person’s character can be evaluated not on how that person has failed but on how that person attempted yet again to succeed.

There are times that we label ourselves losers even in our faith lives. We try to do something to deepen our prayer life. Perhaps it sounded good but it just didn’t work for us. In despair, we gave up trying anything else. There are numerous ways to pray. If one doesn’t work for you, try another.

Some people have given up on service. They volunteered somewhere but it didn’t work out so they gave up on the idea of service. Again, there are numerous ways to serve others. Find something that works for you.

FAITH ACTION: No matter how tired you may be or how many times you may have failed, do not quit trying. Ask God for the grace necessary to try yet again.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE The Difference Between Men and Women

If Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth, and Barbara go out for lunch, they will call each other Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara. If Mark, Chris, Eric, and Tom go out for lunch, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla, Peanut-Head and Bubba.

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY This coming Saturday, August 15, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Because it falls on a Saturday, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year. Hence, there will be no Vigil Mass Friday evening and the only Mass celebrated for the Solemnity will be the regularly scheduled 8:30 a.m. Mass Saturday morning. While the Solemnity might not be a Holy Day of Obligation for us this year, the day itself still speaks to us about the dignity of our lives as well as the hope that we all have for life eternal with Jesus Christ, Our Lord. If we, as Mary did, say yes to God and do all that we can to embrace His holy will, it will do us much good. Mary, our Mother, intercede for your children whilst here on earth so that we may attain the same glory you share with your Son. Kindly intercede, in a most special way, for us during this pandemic that it may be brought under control and that we might get back to the full celebration of the Eucharist. So many of your children miss the opportunity to attend Mass and receive the Body and Blood of your Son.

THE OBLIGATION TO ATTEND WEEKEND MASSES As you know, the obligation to attend weekend Masses had been dispensed for all the faithful until August 15th. However, due not only to the pandemic’s continuance but to rising numbers as well, the Indiana bishops have extended the dispensation. Here is their message: “While commending our pastors and pastoral life coordinators who have gone to great lengths to assure safe worship spaces in our churches, due to the increase in the COVID-19 cases in our state, the Indiana bishops have decided to extend the dispensation from the obligation of Sunday Mass attendance beyond August 15 until November 1, 2020, unless further developments determine otherwise.”

Stewardship Thoughts

"What feels best for you may not be the best for the people around you. Someone with genuine self-esteem understands that self-

fulfillment is not about self-satisfaction." Fr. J. Augustine Wetta

"Avoiding the Cross is the essence of the demonic. Consider the softness of the Church today: the desire to accommodate herself to

the world, shrinking away from sacrifice and self-denial." Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen

"The riddles of life are more satisfying than the solutions of man." G.K. Chesterton

·"Lord, grant me the grace to walk with You through circumstances that make no sense to me."

Thank you for working to keep our parish children safe.

St. Vincent De Paul Society Challenging times abound! Most have encountered some

challenges recently, due to job loss, illness, death of a loved one or an assortment of issues related to the COVID pandemic. This

does not even include the everyday trials that many face! The St. Vincent de Paul Society has been active and on the front lines throughout the pandemic, assisting those in need with food

delivery, utility and rent/mortgage payments for those in the region we serve.

The following is a synopsis of our activities from April to June: • 94 food deliveries were made assisting 288 individuals

• 41 households received assistance with utilities or housing payments.

All of this would not have been possible without the very generous donations of our parish community through food and

monetary contributions. Thanks to all of you and may God bless you with patience and endurance at this troubling time!

If you are aware of someone who would benefit from our help, please advise them to contact the SVDP through the

Parish Office, and ensure them that all communications are kept confidential. Thanks!
