Hi Everyone… Closurayou were happy and excited that your Pilgrim has completed their Walk weekend, maybe they even developed the courage to stand in front of the community and tell everyone what their Walk has meant to them….and what they are going to do with their weekend experience. What a joyful moment for you as their sponsor. All the months of prayerful preparation, gathering palanca, and now the mountain top experience for them…and for you. Remember ! But Sponsors, what have you done to help your Pilgrim with their intent? Were you able to help them discover (or start) a reunion group, work up the courage to take a step of faith in serving God’s family, invited them to serve with you on a subsequent Walk weekend? Just as spring blossoms don’t end the orchardist work, or, the delivery of a new baby into the world ends the parent’s role in their child’s development, neither does Sponsorship end at Closura. Instead, Closura should be viewed as the beginning. Emmaus is about a Pilgrim’s Fourth Day and the Walk weekend is only the beginning smiliar to the flowering fruit trees or the cry in the delivery room. Good sponsoring involves not only the proper preparation for the weekend but continued involvement in your Pilgrim’s life, encouraging his/her expanding relationship with Jesus, the fellowship of a reunion group (even if it’s only you and your Pilgrim,) assistance in ascertaining the use of their gifts in their church, the invitation to join you in serving on a Walk weekend and attendance at other Emmaus events. Jesus sent the disciples out two by two for a reason. Thinking that your Pilgrim has completed her/her journey at Closura and experienced everything their Fourth Day has to offer is a sad ending. Continued serving, discipling and strengthening relationships is where the real joy is and it doesn’t end. Closura is only the beginning. Hi Everyone…

Closura—you were happy and excited that your Pilgrim has completed their Walk weekend,

maybe they even developed the courage to stand in front of the community and tell everyone

what their Walk has meant to them….and what they are going to do with their weekend

experience. What a joyful moment for you as their sponsor. All the months of prayerful

preparation, gathering palanca, and now the mountain top experience for them…and for you.

Remember !

But Sponsors, what have you done to help your Pilgrim with their intent? Were you able to

help them discover (or start) a reunion group, work up the courage to take a step of faith in

serving God’s family, invited them to serve with you on a subsequent Walk weekend? Just as

spring blossoms don’t end the orchardist work, or, the delivery of a new baby into the world

ends the parent’s role in their child’s development, neither does Sponsorship end at Closura.

Instead, Closura should be viewed as the beginning. Emmaus is about a Pilgrim’s Fourth Day

and the Walk weekend is only the beginning smiliar to the flowering fruit trees or the cry in the

delivery room. Good sponsoring involves not only the proper preparation for the weekend but

continued involvement in your Pilgrim’s life, encouraging his/her expanding relationship with

Jesus, the fellowship of a reunion group (even if it’s only you and your Pilgrim,) assistance in

ascertaining the use of their gifts in their church, the invitation to join you in serving on a Walk

weekend and attendance at other Emmaus events. Jesus sent the disciples out two by two for a

reason. Thinking that your Pilgrim has completed her/her journey at Closura and experienced

everything their Fourth Day has to offer is a sad ending. Continued serving, discipling and

strengthening relationships is where the real joy is and it doesn’t end. Closura is only the

beginning.

Lay Director Thoughts — Walk #206

Ever since October 1991, my life has been different. You see, I wasn’t going to go on Walk #30. I

was much too busy. Besides, I didn’t “need” to go. I had been trying to find a way to tell my sponsor

(my Pastor) that I just couldn’t get the time off. Work was just too busy. But God had other plans. The

Monday prior to Walk #30, I had an accident at work which crushed my thumb on my left hand. It was

serious enough that I was off work for the next two weeks, but not so serious that I couldn’t attend

the Walk. It was at this weekend I met some very special men, who have become my best friends.

One of these men, Scott Marshall, introduced me to a song based on Micah 6:8. That verse has been

“mine” ever since, in good times and not so good times. To this day, my left thumb reminds me that

God is in control, not me. That God can use all things for good, and that it’s His timing in all things.

He reminds me to DO Justly, LOVE Mercy, WALK Humbly. You will notice the emphasis on the

verbs. We are not called to be complacent. God is calling us to live the Emmaus themes, of Piety,

Study, and Action.

The theme song for Walk #206 is I Will Follow by Chris Tomlin. “Where You go, I’ll go. Where You

stay, I’ll stay. When You move, I’ll move. I will follow You.” When this song was chosen as the theme

song, I had no idea how much more it would mean to me today than when I first started this journey.

When I was asked to serve for this weekend, like all Lay Directors I’m sure, I prayed and prayed

hard. It had never been my desire; I am more comfortable behind a guitar or in the background. But as

with everything, it’s God’s timing, and He’s in control, not I. I am reminded each week by one of the

men in our reunion group, Ray NeSmith, that God will place the people on the Walk that He wants

there.

Paul Arms, the Assistant Lay Director, and I look forward to serving with you. As we serve to-

gether on this, His Walk to Emmaus, let us serve the Pilgrims with love, mercy, and a humble heart.

Paul and I covet your prayers for the Pilgrims and the team as we journey together down this Emmaus

road.

Lay Director Thoughts — Walk #207

May 2011 was when I received the phone call to prayerfully consider serving as a Lay Director. It took me about 5 minutes to say “YES”. God has been preparing me to serve him in this ca-pacity since I took my walk in October 2006. I feel I have come full circle. My pilgrim walk was at Edmonds UMC and now I have the honor & privilege to serve as the Lay Director for WTE-207 at Edmonds UMC. The theme for the weekend is “Everlasting Grace”. The song is “Glorious Day” by Casting Crowns. The verse is Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by Grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” NIV As you can see by the logo, that within the heart is the cross and the dove. The heart represents all of us as Christian Pilgrims, the Dove is God’s Grace to us and the Cross is Christ’s sacrifice to us “His Pilgrims”. Notice that the heart is open at the end to receive God’s Grace and the light in the middle of the cross is the Faith, Love and Hope for all of us. My prayer is that God will continue to fill our hearts with his “Everlasting Grace” and that we will all keep our hearts open to receive it. Many Blessings, Bette Kohlenberger

A Gentle Reminder

Please remember that there is an $80 cost for

each pilgrim you sponsor and for yourself when

serving on a team. Checks can be given to the

Palanca Boss at the team meeting, on the walk

or mailed to the PSWTE post office box.

Please indicate the walk number on your check.

*Ultreya News*

Jessica Berg has recently volunteered up to serve as POC for the Kitsap Ultreya. Please contact Jessica to

help with plans or for more information on how you can get involved.

Help is needed to restart the North Snohomish/South Skagit Ultreya. All it takes is a willing group of vol-

unteers and a location to meet monthly (or at least quarterly). Contact Carol Decker if you (or a group of

you) wish to take on this leadership role. Help is available for meeting ideas.

PSWTE Supply Trailer

Last year a proposal to facilitate the storage and transportation of Walk

supplies was presented to the Board. The proposal was approved in con-

cept pending the development of more detailed figures. At our last Board

meeting, the concept was again presented along with more detailed infor-

mation. After consideration of the financial and logistical details, the

Board approved the proposal which includes 1) purchasing a trailer large enough for all the weekend sup-

plies, 2) enlisting volunteers with sufficient sized vehicles ( eg. ¾ ton pickup) to move the trailer from

each Walk immediately following Closura to a location within proximity of the next set of Walks, 3)

enlisting volunteers in a safe/secure location to allow the trailer to be stored on their property until the

next set of Walks, 4) establishing a fund for donations toward the cost of the trailer and expenses related

to the trailer, 5) to encourage the community to contribute toward the cost of the trailer and its expenses.

The proposal was approved by the Board after it looked at the cost to rent trucks for each Walk, the cost

to transport the supplies, and the time it took to load/unload the truck for each set of Walks. When all

these items were factored into the equation, our current method of handling the supplies involved several

thousand dollars. Although the proposed purchase of a trailer would involve a large initial outlay of

funds, the savings the community would realize over time would be significant and ultimately save us a

substantial amount of money.

Because the Board desires to be good stewards of God’s gifts, we believe the concept of the supply

trailer will benefit the community. If you would like to send a contribution, large or small, to help with

the trailer purchase and expenses, send your check to the regular PSWTE address, att: Treasurer, and

note on the check that it is of the ‘Trailer Fund’. Our treasurer will then be able to direct it to the appro-

priate place. Also, if you live in proximity of a future Walk site and have a sufficiently sized vehicle,

please consider volunteering to move the trailer for the community. It would involve retrieving the

trailer from the previous Walk and ultimately, delivering it to the new Walk location when needed. Your

willingness to help and let the Board/LD know as soon as the location is announced will greatly help in

the planning of the weekend supply logistics. If you have any questions, please ask one of our Board

members. Thank you in advance for your support of this project.

The next Fourth Day Celebration will be Saturday, November 17, 2012

at Christ Lutheran Church in Lakewood. Please plan to attend with your

pilgrim.

It's nomination time again. Please prayerfully consider your teammates

for nominations of Lay Director, President Elect, and Facilities

Chairperson. For board positions, use the application form under the

Board tab on the website. For Lay Director nominations, use the

application form found under the Fourth Day tab. While on the Fourth

Day tab, check out the new Request to Serve form. Use this form to

communicate with the Team Selection Committee. If you have a new Ultreya location starting up or a new Ultreya

representative for an existing location, please contact Carol Decker,

President Elect. Her email address is on the Board tab. Reminder: The Puget sound Walk to Emmaus database and/or

published team lists are not to be used for non-Emmaus events,

including fund raising. This practice is not acceptable and is not

approved by the Board.

Did you know? Pilgrim applications are due in to the Pre-Walk

Chairperson four weeks before a scheduled Walk? Please be mindful

of all concerned and don't wait until the last minute to get the application

sent in.

This last week, we as a [Chrysalis]

board had to make a hard decision, to

forgo the Boys flight in July. This is late

notice, be we were hoping and praying

that we would get community support,

but we could not get enough volunteers

to work the weekend. We had a total of 3

boy Caterpillars, and needed 3 more to

make this a complete go, but I was sure

we would get those, but without workers

we cannot support these boys. I believe

everything is in Gods time, and I

encourage the community to pray if this

is a ministry they want to see succeed.

Without the community we have no

choice but to move on to other ministries.

For the good news, the Girls flight is on,

we still need a lot of back ground team

members as we are very short. We will

make it happen, with lots of sacrifice and

may have to cut back on something’s.

Please contact us if you can help, even

for just one day of this flight.
