WETLANDS RAINFOREST GRASSLANDS
The Wetlands depicts the amazing diversity of our
natural wetlands that are important fringing areas
and provides a link to many ecosystems. An array of
wading birds can be viewed foraging for fish in
waterways beneath the boardwalks.
A host of macropods and a multitude of wetland bird
species can also be found here. Make your way to see
an Australian icon - The Koala.
Representing the Wet Tropics rainforest environments
where native species such as the Southern
Cassowary, Boyd's Forest Dragon and colourful
Eclectus parrots can be viewed in a natural setting.
Boardwalks meander along the forest floor to the
rainforest canopy.
This open-air exhibit portrays both inland and
coastal plains. Here you can interact with and hand-
feed kangaroos and wallabies. A host of waterfowl
and native birdlife use the billabong as a refuge
for breeding.
Boardwalks overlook lagoons where both the
Estuarine and Freshwater crocodiles lurk beneath
water or bask on the sunlit banks.

The Southern Cassowary
The Southern Cassowary is classed as endangered &
is found in the Wet Tropics area of Tropical North
Queensland. Cassowaries are termed a 'keystone'
species. This means
that the loss of the
Cassowary could
lead to long term
changes in plant
communities and
may eventually lead
to the loss of plant
species.
