Treasurer’s Topic During the June Member meeting many issues were discussed but none more important than the budget. In the spirit of keeping those members informed who cannot attend the meetings regularly I have this tidbit of information for you. There was a proposed Budget Amendment (for specifics read the meeting minutes) to allot $500 to the American Red Cross in order to assist those affected by the tornados in Texas and Oklahoma. The amendment was unanimously approved. The $500 donated to the American Red Cross does not include the normal $200 the club is required to contribute every year. A check was cut for $560.50 (includes additional 60.50 donation made by Gary Gressett after winning the 50/50 drawing) and given to the President, Danny Bouska to deliver to the organization.

President’s Report Hi Everyone, It's amazing how fast this year is moving along. It seemed like just last week the temps were dipping in the 30's and now we wish they would dip 30 degrees into the 70's! The Mid Year Outing this past weekend marks the half way point of the year. We had a great turn out and great food but you'll have to read the article in this newsletter to hear more about the great time had by all. As I mentioned last month, I hope folks are thinking about for which position on the 2014 Board of Directors you may wish to run. With several vacant positions to be filled there is ample opportunity to help make a great dive club even greater. As we continue to explore new diving opportunities for the Club, if you are interested in diving Reveille Peak Ranch near Burnet Tx the weekend of July 20th, make sure to contact Aqua Trek Sports and get signed up. This will be a good opportunity to dive a new site and determine if it will be a good location for a future Rebel Outing. The website for Reveille Peak is http://rprtexas.com/activities/scuba-at-rpr/ I continue my challenge to each member to invite and bring a guest to the Membership Meetings or to one of the Outings. The Club's Members are a key ingredient to the continued growth and of course the main ingredient to the success of not only the monthly meetings and outings but the Diving Rebels Scuba as a whole. It's hot, the days are longer so take every opportunity to get underwater and cool off! Danny

Say Bubbles!

Other than actually attending each fellow members dive trip nothing tells the story of an amazing dive like a well timed and perfectly shot photograph. The perfect shot is always referred to as, “the money shot,” and will bring a smile to the photographers

face every time!

This year is your chance to tell your own story with a photograph. No matter your experience level all you need to win this contest is

that one GREAT shot!

This Photo Contest will have two categories: Underwater Photo (of course) and Land Photo

You can have an entry in one category ro both, you choose. This competition is open to Members Only! This competition is to be

judged by a non member to allow for fairness.

Rules for this competition will be distributed at the July member meeting as well as posted on the Rebel website at

www.divingrebels.org. Prizes are TBD!

Good Luck!

2nd Annual Tubing the Guadalupe River July 26-28, 2013

The Diving Rebels are having their 2nd annual Tubing the Guadalupe River Trip on July 26th-28th. We had a great time last year. We have reserved 2 cabins side by side (to make partying easier) at Jellystone Cabins and Camping in Canyon Lake, TX (The same place as last year). The cabins hold 10 people each. The cost (which I've already paid for) is $273/night/cabin divided by how many people come. The more people that share the cost, the less it will cost per person. Right now though, $20 will hold your reservation until the total amount of people is known and cost figured. You can mail me a check:

Michele Estill 2108 Inverray Ct. Arlington, TX 76017

Or pay me at the June dive club meeting. You can also bring your camper or camp in a tent. You are responsible for your own reservations for that however. You can, of course, come over and party with us and share food. If you don't want to tube there is also a waterpark nearby called Schlitterbahn. And there is also shopping and antiquing. Something for everyone. LOL We're looking forward to hanging with y'all. Michele (817-797-9063) and Mark

Lake Greeson Murfreesboro, Arkansas

August 10-11, 2013 Lake Greeson is a 12 mile, 7260 acre lake located approximately seven miles north of the town of Murfreesboro, Arkansas. The lake is a popular location for boating, swimming, fishing, and Yes, even diving! We have an outing planned to visit Lake Greeson the weekend of August 10. Two extremely comfortable lodges are currently reserved, sleeping a total of 18. Campsites are also available but have ton been reserved, and there are motels located a short seven miles away in the town of Murfreesboro. We also have a “party barge” reserved for our use on both Saturday and Sunday. The boat is perfect for diving and has a sun deck for relaxing and soaking up some rays. Of course, if you have a boat you’d like to bring with you, the extra boats available will be more than welcome! The cost of the outing will be $125 on the high side. That is for two nights lodging (Friday and Saturday), and our use of the party barge for both Saturday and Sunday. A sign-up sheet will be at the July meeting, and a deposit of $50/pp is due on later than July 27 to secure your lodging. Should the trip cancel due to no fault of your own, the deposit will be refunded. If you cancel on the trip, the deposit will not be refundable. If you wish to camp or stay in town, no deposit is required. Meal shares will be lunch and dinner on Saturday – everyone will be on their own for any other meals. Both lodges have full kitchens, and there is a great grocery store in town. However, we must state at this point that the closest store for Adult Beverages is in the Texarkana area, about one hour away. From the DFW Metroplex, travel time is roughly four to five hours, depending on what part of town you depart from and what time of day. If you’d like to take a peek online at the lodging, the website is www.swahacabins.com. Campsites are non-reservable but you can contact the Corps of Engineers regarding camping at: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 155 Dynamite Hill Road Murfreesboro, AR 71958-9720 Phone: (870) 285-2151 Hope to see you there!

The Diving Rebels Scuba Club

Invites you on a Trip to Curacao and Bonaire for the 2013 CORAL SPAWN

The Diving Rebels Scuba Club is organizing a group trip to Bonaire with an option to start your vacation with a few days in Curacao before moving over to Bonaire. The trip dates are September 18-21, 2013 at Lion Dive on Curacao and September 21-28, 2013 at Buddy Dive on Bonaire.

Bonaire had no trouble earning its reputation as the “Shore Diving Capital of the World.” With gently sloping reefs, stellar wrecks and walls, and an abundance of marine life all within a few steps of the coastline, it doesn’t get much better than this anywhere on the planet. All you have to od is drive along the coast and watch for the yellow stones that mark each site. You can keep your own schedule, and you certainly aren’t limited to a few sites. Most of the great diving here is just a fin kick away, making this Dutch island’s first-place ranking well deserved.

If you have ever wanted to see the "Coral Spawn", this is your opportunity. The “Coral Spawn” occurs 7 days after the 9th full moon of the calendar year. In 2013, the 9th full moon falls on September 19th and the coral spawn is predicted to occur on September 26th. It does not last long and this is your chance to be in Bonaire during a coral spawn. Although these predictions are certainly not an exact science and not guaranteed to occur during this trip, it is well documented that various species of coral and other marine invertebrates spawn in cycles that are closely tied to the full moons in the months of August, September, and October each year.

Want to begin your vacation a few days earlier? Join us on Curacao on September 18, 2013. Arrive on Wednesday, dive on Thursday and Friday or just relax on the beach and unwind before departing for Bonaire on Saturday the 21st. Chosen as one of the Top 10 Destinations for 2012 by Frommer's, the island of Curacao is a paradise for scuba drivers and nature lovers alike. Its ruggedly beautiful landscape provides endless opportunities for fun. Immerse yourself in mysterious and colorful underwater worlds at more than 60 diving locations. Including some popular wreck dives, most notably, the Superior Producer at a maximum depth of 90 feet. The Tugboat is also very popular as it is in shallow water at 15 feet and is excellent for photography. Also, there is The Airplane Wreck, which is a shore dive and the location is marked on the surface with a buoy. The best dives are the Mushroom Forest and Alice in Wonderland where there are copious amounts of star coral. If you are interested in joining us, more information and pricing can be found on the website at: http://www.divingrebels.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=122:bonaire2013&catid=17&Itemid=2 Last Chance Deadline is July 3rd. There are still a few spaces available so sign up now!

Mid Year Outing Report Clear Spring Scuba Park

June 22-23 By Danny Bouska

Knowing that summer weekends at Clear Springs tends to make prime camping and gathering locations a premium, I headed for Terrell mid afternoon on Friday. Arriving to a nearly empty park I registered quickly and headed to our favorite location to hold the Mid Year Outing where there would be plenty of shade yet not far from the water. Before long the Diving Rebels banner was hung proclaiming our stake on the spot and just in time as other folks who didn't get as early a start showed up with hopes of grabbing the prime location. A short time later Johnny and Connie arrived, and set up their gear and campsite. The upcoming "Super Moon" made it feel like a never ending twilight and even the coyotes seemed to be enjoying the added light for their scavenging as their howls seemed closer than ever. We sat around and talked and shared stories before calling it a night. The next morning, the water at Clear Springs was calm and inviting. Bill Parker arrived around 8:30 and he and I quickly got in the water before the classes. Visibility ranged from 5' to 20' and the temp was very comfortable as we make a 50+ minute dive. As we returned to camp, other folks had begun to arrive and were setting up dive gear and campsites. For the remainder of the morning and afternoon, members and guests dove and talked, then dove and talked some more. This year's meal was catered by Soulman's in Terrell. They arrived at 3pm and by 3:15 people were lined up to feast on potato salad, cole slaw, beans, brisket, sausage, bbq chicken and all the fixings. Many thanks to the Members and Guest for bringing desserts and appetizers. If anyone went hungry or didn't satisfy that sweet tooth, it was their own fault because there was plenty of food for the 33 Members and Guests in attendance. The raffle began at 4:30 and this year's Mid Year, had a twist. Not only was there a general raffle, there was a Member Only raffle. Each member could buy one ticket or designate one of the tickets from the "6 for $5" raffle tickets for the Member Only raffle. The pair of Scubapro Seawing Nova fins were won by Richard Mann. The general raffle had a large number of prizes and though it started off with what seemed like ever winner winning again on the next draw. I broke the double wins when I didn't win again after my draw won a dive slate. The big prize for the general raffle was a Blue Ray DVD Player which was won by Kyle Henson. After the raffle, the talking and diving continued with several people spending the night under the "Super Moon" and diving on Sunday. The 2013 Mid Year Outing will go down as another successful Rebel Outing. It was great to see the Members and guests talking, laughing and diving something which si far from a rarity at the Club's Outings as we always have a great time!

Since we have spent so much time in the west (of Arlington) we have decided to go a little south to the quaint town of Mansfield and enjoy some delights from the East. We will be enjoying some tasty Thai food at a wonderful restaurant that never disappoints. We hope that all of you die hard RofM veterans come out in full force, and bring a friend or two with you. We will be whooping it up and having a good time while enjoying a wonderful Thai meal. To add to the fun we can all attempt to eat with chopsticks and see who gives up and reaches for the fork first. I od not want to neglect to mention the best part; this is a BYOB establishment so bring the libation of your choice to add to the experience. BUT WAIT!!! We still strongly recommend that you yrt to RSVP if you plan to attend the RofM. We want to make sure there is always room for you at the table we must have a tentative head count for the restaurant but you are not committing to anything financially. We must mention that this is NOT subsidized by club funds so be sure to bring your wallet to pay for your meal. Thank you, Kelly Barentine, Co-coordinator NOTE: We are in need of recommendations for RofM so please email those to Connie or myself. This is your opportunity to tell us where to go! !

!Restaurant of the Month-June

Smokeys Barbque-Fort Worth By: Kelly Barentine

In June we had 18 Diving Rebels turn out for some amazing BBQ at Smokeys Barbque in Fort Worth and had a pretty darn good time. I was told Rebels started showing up about 6:30pm or so with Danny and I being the last to roll in at about 7:30pm. By the time we got there they were out of sausage and chicken, which is what I generally enjoy eating. I was a little disappointed but we had the brisket, ribs and pulled pork and they turned out to be really good. The location is set up for the customer to walk in and order the food and then you get the sides you desire after receiving you meat. They had a wide variety and you were able to go back and get more if you had room for more. The staff set us in the back of the location in a room away from the main dining room so that we had privacy and could cut up all we wanted. Everyone just enjoyed talking over various topics, such as Johnny & Connie’s dive in the Mines of Missouri and Tina Caron’s trip she was leaving on the next day. What was nice was the new faces that decided to join our group. Unfortunately I did not get to meet them but hopefully they will join us at our July RofM and we can have some great conversation. I was happy to see Dan show up as I had not seen him since our November RofM, hopefully he will not be a stranger at the meetings or outings. Are you hearing me Dan??? ! Connie and I hope everyone (and their friends) are able to join us at our July RofM which will be in the quiet little town of Mansfield. We will be enjoying some delectable Thai food at Blue Mint Thai on Debbie Lane. So “Save the Date” and join us on July 12th as we travel to the far East and whoop it up as only Rebels can! OH, and Blue Mint is BYOB and we know how everyone loves that acronym!
