Up to 1200 homes in Selwyn could be missing out on subsidies which would improve their insulation at no cost to the owner.

Ms Shone said last year CEA insulated 1600 homes and also did 450 home energy assessments in the Canterbury area. The home energy assessments were not all in old homes.

“We are surprised that we are also called to more and more newer homes where people have high power bills and can’t understand why.

Entries are open for the competition which is now in its 13th year. The competition annually attracts around 400 entries across a variety of classes.

Chairman of Judges Terry Copeland said the competition is open to all wines made in an aromatic style and the decision was made to accept red and rosé wines in 2015 to better reflect consumer demand.

“By extending the competition classes, we’re able to recognise that more and more consumers want aromatic styles and this has extended itself into the red and rosé spectrum.

“Winemakers are now making styles that are less encumbered with oak and are more concentrated on expressions of fruit character.

“It will be great to see how these reds in particular come through the competition and to see how the wine industry is responding to the challenges of meeting consumer demand.”

Reds and rosés join the competitionThe Canterbury A&P Show’s International Aromatic Wine Competition will accept red and rosé wines for the first time in 2015.

Marlborough vineyard Lawson’s Dry Hills took out the top spot in 2014, winning the Supreme Champion Wine in Show award with their 2013 Gewürztraminer.

Judging takes place in late September with the winning wines announced in early October and will be on display at the 2015 Canterbury A&P Show in the Food and Wine NZ Pavilion.

Also returning in 2015 is the New Zealand Young Winemaker of the Year Competition. The competition ran for the first time in 2014 and Patrick Newtown from Mudbrick Winery on Waiheke Island took out the top spot.

The Young Winemaker of the Year will be announced during a function at the Canterbury A&P Show.

Entries for both competitions close on September 23. To find out more about the competition go to www.aromaticwine.co.nz

The festival starts on Saturday, September 26, with 37 free walks planned throughout Selwyn, Christchurch and Waimakariri. It runs until October 10, taking in the school holidays and there are walks to suit all abilities and ages, including kids.

"The walks are a chance for people to keep fit, get to know some of the hidden gems of Selwyn a little better and meet new friends," Selwyn District Council’s recreation advisor Dave Tippett said.

He said that if there is enough interest from the community, the council is hoping to help establish a regular mums and bubs walking group in Selwyn.

"We know that there are lots of young families in our district. The walk would be opportunity for people to keep fit in a supportive environment while also visiting different parts of Selwyn which may be popular with people who are new to our district."

The Opportunities for Young People funding comes from the $2 million Government Youth Enterprise Fund launched in December last year.

“The funding will be awarded to young people aged between 12 and 24 years with clever and achievable ideas that will make a social or environmental difference,” Ms Adams said.

Ms Adams said funding would be awarded based on the innovation, viability, potential for growth and social impact of the project, while also considering value for money.

“This fund inspires youth to apply a commercial approach to solving social or environmental challenges - a way of thinking that is vital to the future of New Zealand.”

She said young people who solve community problems with innovative and entrepreneurial thinking are well placed for future leadership roles.

“By working on projects they have

designed, young people develop valuable decision-making skills and confidence.”

Interest for this round of funding must be registered by October 20.

Selwyn MP Amy Adams wants funding applications from young people.

The machines have started doing their work on the demolition of the earthquake-damaged Hilgendorf complex of buildings at Lincoln University. The demolition is expected to continue until late November, and will make way for new science facilities. The university’s Corporate Services Group Manager, Murray Dickson said along with state-of-the-art academic facilities, one of the first projects in the redevelopment will be a major student centre incorporating a range of student services. The public have been asked to stay clear of the site for safety reasons.

Applications are now open for the 2016 Selwyn Youth Council and will close at the end of October. All you have to do is fill out an application form telling us about yourself, how you have involved yourself in the community and what you enjoy doing.

From there, there will an interview evening in November. This will be an informal meeting with other applicants to see how you interact and work together with others. Successful applicants will then be contacted in December.

The Youth Council is made up of 11 youth from around the district, as well as 2 youth workers, and Chris Martin (Selwyn District Council Youth Advisor) who is our liaison with the Selwyn Council.

So what does the Youth Council involve?

As part of the Youth Council we make submissions to the Selwyn District Council and other organisations such as ECan so they know how their decisions will impact the youth in the Selwyn area.

Another great thing is attending and organising events. We attend events that other Youth Councils run around the Canterbury area and this is a great time to meet new people and share event ideas. These events allow us to further develop our leadership experience and training to help our overall performance on the

Youth Council. As well as attending events,

the Selwyn Youth Council also organises and runs its own events such as Drive in Movies, All Night Party and even Dive in Movies. Kids Fest is another great time to get involved and help out. You can even help run the Pop-Up Café, which attends events and sometimes goes to Darfield High School during lunchtimes.

Being a Youth councilor is absolutely great but it is a big commitment.

We have monthly meetings in Rolleston, and also some smaller weekly meetings. You have to have a give-it-a-go attitude, and a willingness to help out at events.

A lot of the time is volunteer work. As of this month the Youth Council has worked 899 volunteer hours since the start of the year. Being on the Selwyn Youth Council is a great opportunity to make a change in the community.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in being part of contact Chris Martin, Youth Advisor, at the Selwyn District Council. He has the application forms and would be more than happy to get one to you. You can call him on 03 3472754 or e-mail [email protected]

If Facebook is your thing you can message us on our face book page: Sensational Selwyn Youth.

Youth MattersSelwyn youth having their say

by Emily de RooySelwyn Youth Council

Youth council wants youWe have an exciting chance for Selwyn Youth to become involved in the Selwyn Youth Council for 2016.

First-home buyers in Selwyn are starting to benefit from the Government’s help to become home owners.

The HomeStart package came into effect on April 1 this year, replacing the KiwiSaver First Home Deposit Subsidy. First-home buyers can apply for grants of up to $10,000 for the purchase of an existing home, and grants of up to $20,000 for a new-build.

Across New Zealand, there were 6,788 Homestart applications in the first quarter. Of those, 2,011 have been approved, 1,740 pre-approved, and another 2,016 are being processed.

So far the Government has paid out a total of $7.2 million in grants for 1,195 properties.

This is the most generous support for first-home buyers in a generation so it is understandable that HomeStart is proving popular.

Here in Selwyn, 20 applications have been approved so far with a total of $96,000 paid out to date. While the

Helping hand for first-home buyers

numbers locally are not huge, interest in the scheme is growing, particularly with regard to new properties in Selwyn.

KiwiSaver HomeStart is part of the Government’s wider programme to improve housing affordability.

This includes freeing up more land faster through eight Housing Accords and 118 Special Housing Areas, as well as measures to constrain building material costs, rein in development contributions, cut compliance costs and invest in improved productivity in the construction sector. New tax measures come into effect in October to ensure people who invest in housing pay their fair share of tax.

Over the next five years, HomeStart is expected to help 90,000 New Zealanders achieve their home ownership dream.

So if you are considering purchasing your first home in Selwyn and haven’t already checked whether you are eligible, it may be well worth your while to do so.

by Amy Adams, Selwyn MP

Thank youWe would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the West Melton Community

for the generosity shown to help raise funds for Honor's continued treatment with Therasuit in Adelaide, Australia.

The support has been amazing and we realise we are part of an awesome community. The quiz night at the end of September was incredible, a real fun night and the funds

raised have just blown us away. The local ladies who planned the evening did an outstanding job, you are an awesome bunch!

Thanks to the West Melton Rugby Club for the use of the clubrooms, the great bar staff and to the West Melton Plunket for providing the supper.

A big thanks also to the local businesses who donated items for the auction. The money raised through this was fantastic.

We have also received overwhelming support through the Give-a-little page and it has been so nice to get messages of support.

It has also been great to raise awareness of the therapy and get the word out to other families. We have had a few enquiries from families in Canterbury so it is great to be able to pass on the information we have and put them in touch with Therasuit to see if it may work for them in the future.

Our warmest thanks Tony, Erin, Cameron and Honor GriffithsWest Melton

Students of the Principles of Malting and Brewing course at Lincoln University work in groups to produce a beer from start to finish.

Course tutor Leo Vanhanen said this year’s class of 35 students all made different styles of beer and tasted them at the end the course.

“There were two that were judged the best by all the students and Thief Brewing will make a larger sized brew of one of these and have it on tap at The Institution bar in New Regent Street.”

Mr Vanhanen’s vision of teaching food science students about food and beer matching came to life when Steve Gebbie and his son Ryan of Thief Brewing approached Lincoln University about setting up a brewery on campus for education and commercial brewing.

A first step in this developing relationship has been working with Mr Vanhanen to setup and deliver the practical side of the Principles of Malting and Brewing paper.

The first course took place in 2013 with 16 students, using equipment supplied by Thief Brewing. The increasing popularity of the course saw Lincoln University buy its own equipment.

The labs involve the whole grain brewing process from milling the grain, the mash process and boiling, staged

addition of hops, yeast preparation kegging and bottling. Measurements are taken throughout to reinforce the theory behind each process.

Mr Vanhanen said the beers made by students don’t contain any sugar and make use of mostly local ingredients, including malt from Leeston-based supplier Gladfields, and hops grown in Nelson.

“Students get to see the whole process, from hands-on craft beer making, fermenting and bottling the beer, to understanding the science behind a brew and then seeing that same beer being commercially made and available to the public to try.”

Mr Vanhanen said the course is popular with viticulture students who are very good at identifying flavours.

“Brewing is an excellent example of knowledge and know-how from multiple science disciplines coming together to produce an excellent age old product that is looking to the future.

“We hope to continue developing an education–business type relationship with Thief Brewing and The Institution bar into the future.”

Lincoln University is the only tertiary institution in New Zealand to offer a brewing paper to students. Mr Vanhanen, a former winemaker and

experienced home beer brewer, handles the practical side, while the theory is taught by Professor Charles Brennan, who has a background in malting.

While craft beer is comparatively expensive and currently only makes up about five percent of the market, it is a steadily expanding product category.

Mr Vanhanen said craft beer is all about appreciation.

“You’re paying for time, patience and skill. It’s not about drinking as much as you can.”

The student craft beer will be on sale at The Institution bar in New Regent Street from September 24.

The winners for the Selwyn Gets Ready sign up and win competition were Susan Rogers (Selwyn Huts), Mike and Karen Hennessy (Greendale), Kate Foster (Hororata), Steve Johnson (Kirwee) and Deb and Julian Reynolds (Tai Tapu).

Each kit contains 23 items including a first aid kit, a torch with radio, an emergency tent and blanket, water purification tablets, and a large water container.

Selwyn District Council’s emergency management coordinator, Sue Jenkins, said the competition encouraged new households to join the emergency management website.

Selwyn Gets Ready winners announcedFive Selwyn households are now better prepared for an emergency after signing up to the Selwyn Gets Ready website and winning a household emergency ‘grab and go’ kit.

"It's great to see so many new households sign up. These households can now receive email or text messages alerting them of an emergency situation that will affect them directly like an uncontrolled fire nearby, a severe weather warning or a boil water notice for their water supply."

Around 120 new households joined Selwyn Gets Ready over the duration of the competition which ran in August. The total number of households across the district that have joined Selwyn Gets Ready has now reached 6029.

The Selwyn Gets Ready website is a database which contains contact information of local residents.

This information is used by local community response teams to identify who needs assistance in an emergency and who has skills or resources.

Kate Foster, co-caretaker of Terrace Station historic homestead, was delighted to be one of the kit winners.

The team from the Trees for Bees programme, which was launched by Federated Farmers in 2009, are promoting superior nutrition for bees by installing bee feed plantations on farms with carefully selected plants to serve multiple purposes.

Plantations have been installed on 15 demonstration farms throughout New Zealand, on a wide range of farms from sheep and beef to arable and vineyards.

Dr Angus McPherson, Trees for Bees farm planting advisor, says results are looking extremely encouraging.

“Where we’ve planted larger grade specimens we are getting flowering in their first season, and we’re supplementing smaller grade plants with perennial and herb species to get early flowering,” Dr McPherson says.

“We are seeing bees visiting the plants, which is great, and we will be collecting data on how hives in the area

are performing.”Dr McPherson says while farmers

are planting for erosion control, riparian protection, shade and shelter, or animal fodder, they can help bees by selecting plants that also provide good pollen and nectar.

“We’ve found that on the farms on which we’ve installed bee feed plantations, not only are we getting bees visiting the bee feed plants, but we’re also seeing the other planting benefits planned for, such as shade, shelter, riparian protection and amenity.”

He says farm plantings generally require low maintenance bee plants such as trees and shrubs, and Trees for Bees are also looking at how bee feed can be incorporated into ground cover planting to control weeds.

“Most people wouldn’t think of an oak or a maple as a bee feed plant, but the quantity of pollen available from one of

these trees is huge, so they play a very important role in keeping our bees well fed and healthy.”

The Trees for Bees project works with beekeepers and landowners on its demonstration farms to develop on-farm and apiary-based planting designs to ensure hives have sufficient bee feed.

“Bees are only pollinating or gathering honey for a few months in summer each

year, so it’s vital that we have enough natural bee feed available to keep hives healthy and vigorous and get them through the crucial autumn and spring periods,” Dr McPherson says.

Trees for Bees has produced plant lists and planting guides for farms, public lands, and home gardens to help support bees, which are available at www.treesforbeesnz.org

The committees were set up as part of the collaborative Canterbury Water Management Strategy (CWMS) and 7 of Canterbury’s 10 zone committees are now calling for applications from interested community members.

CWMS programme manager Christina Robb said the committees are looking for new people who can see others’ points of view and who can work collaboratively to find solutions for water issues.

“The zone committees are now focused on local actions to deliver the

gains envisaged when the strategy was launched in 2009. Since 2009 or 2010 the committees have been working with their communities to find innovative ways to improve local freshwater management.

“This includes encouraging good management practices from all land users, work to improve biodiversity and ecosystems, as well as improving urban stormwater quality.

“Zone committees are also working with councils on environmental limits

such as how much water can be taken and how much nutrient can be discharged.

“The work going on as part of the strategy will help to ensure safe drinking water supplies, sustainable farming practices and clean rivers and streams, as well as enhancing recreational opportunities and protecting environment and cultural values.”

Ms Robb said they are sure there are many people in Selwyn who are passionate about making a positive

difference in water management.“We encourage them to put

their names forward to ensure new perspectives are reflected,” she said.

Candidates must be able to attend the committee meetings, and live in or have a significant relationship with the zone or region they are applying for.

Expressions of interest are due by October 15 and candidates will be notified in mid-late October if they have been shortlisted. For more information go to www.ecan.govt.nz/canterburywater

Canterbury-based MPI Animal Welfare Manager Peter Hyde says there have had been very few animal welfare issues to deal with in North Canterbury.

“Sheep are a bit lighter than ideal but not to the extent where they are below

the minimum standard that breaches of the Animal Welfare Act.”

Mr Hyde says farmers have adopted different management strategies to maintain the condition of their animals.

“Many farmers have been feeding out since January. Some farmers have found grazing outside the drought affected areas. Most farmers would have reduced their stock numbers, which has included selling off capital stock.

“No matter which strategy has been used, it has resulted in a significant loss of income to many North Canterbury farmers.”

Peter Hyde says he was impressed with the support that had been provided by many organisations.

“North Canterbury veterinarians and New Zealand Beef and Lamb have run very well attended field days to assist farmers with their tactics to manage through the drought.”

“Federated Farmers have organised

the supply of donated feed. “The Rural Support Trust has visited

530 farms to check how farming families are coping with the difficult situation. Many people have also been involved with organising social events.”

In June, these groups came together to form the North Canterbury Drought Committee. The committee is chaired by Hurunui Mayor, Winton Dalley, who is also a farmer in North Canterbury.

“While MPI does not provide financial assistance to farmers, some funding has been provided to the Rural Support Trust to support its work and to fund a coordinator for the North Canterbury Drought Committee,” Mr Hyde says.

“There has been little significant rainfall in North Canterbury and the drought continues. The North Canterbury Drought Committee will need to continue to monitor the welfare of both stock and farmers into the future.”

According to recent figures, an all-time low of 36 herds were infected with bovine TB (34 cattle and two deer herds).

“Reaching this milestone is a credit to farmers and the industry and Government organisations that are shareholders and investors in the TBfree programme and is a big step towards New Zealand becoming TB-free,” OSPRI chief executive, Michelle Edge, said.

“Farmers, industry and Government partners working hand-in-hand with OSPRI have collaboratively made the programme one of the world's leading TB control schemes.

“While this is a significant milestone, we know our focus on managing numbers of infected herds during the season where finishing stock heading to the processing works needs to remain vigilant.”

An independent review of the TBfree programme has recently been completed. This process included scientific modelling, a review of operational outcomes and a full public consultation process facilitated by the Plan Governance Group comprising industry shareholders and independent chair, Chris Kelly.

A final proposal will then be presented to the Minister of Primary Industries for review and approval at the end of September. It will be OSPRI’s role as the appointed management agency to

implement the outcomes of the review and to continue working with partners, wider industry and the community towards eradicating TB from livestock by 2026 and from wildlife by 2055.

Currently the main aim of the TB programme is to eradicate TB from possums and other wildlife across 2.5 million hectares of New Zealand’s at-risk areas by 2026.

Ms Edge said the review of the national TB Plan found that OSPRI’s TBfree programme is well ahead of its targets with more than 1.2 million hectares already eradicated.

“The programme’s ‘proof of concept’ areas have demonstrated that the disease can successfully be eradicated.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done but we’re excited about the direction that the plan review is moving with the goal of achieving eradication more quickly and at a lower cost. This is good news for industry and provides further proof of New Zealand’s animal health status for international trading partners.’

Consultation on the review closed in July after a large number of submissions and significant feedback from workshops around the country. Further details of the review and a wide range of supporting information, including an independent scientific review, can be found at tbplanreview.co.nz

OSPRI’s TBfree programme is one of the world’s leading TB control schemes.

The projects involve aquifer management research, new science related to sensor technologies that determine the fat depth in live animals, developing a non-invasive sensor to measure dry matter in fruit and vegetables, and producing a new nitrogen fixing mulch film for horticultural applications.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has awarded $6.2 million in total funding to the projects over the next three years, including subcontracts to a significant number of collaborating organisations.

Lincoln Agritech CEO Peter Barrowclough says it is a noteworthy achievement for a small organisation.

“We are thrilled by the vote of confidence that this represents in the record of Lincoln Agritech for our science and research outcomes.

“We are now anxious to get under way alongside partner organisations and subcontractors and to see outcomes from the science translate

Lincoln Agritech embarks on new research projectsLincoln Agritech has recently achieved Government funding for four important new science programmes that will help strengthen New Zealand’s reputation in several key research areas.

into benefits for New Zealand’s high-tech manufacturing sector, agricultural exports and importantly, the protection of the country’s invaluable natural groundwater and surface water assets.”

Mr Barrowclough says the programmes strengthen Lincoln Agritech’s strategy of delivering science and technologies to help our primary, environmental and manufacturing sectors realise greater value.

“The project topics are also key areas for us, given that we are owned by Lincoln University, the country’s only land-based tertiary institution.”

Lincoln Agritech’s Chief Scientist Ian Woodhead says the advanced, innovative research at the heart of these programmes will enhance New Zealand’s reputation in these “challenging yet exciting research fields”.

“Working alongside national and international collaborators, our science teams are beginning work in fields that promise substantial science and practical outcomes,” he says.

Lincoln Agritech is an independent research and development organisation, wholly owned by Lincoln University, with an independent board of directors.

Lincoln Agritech employs over 40 staff, including scientists, research engineers and software developers and is based on campus at Lincoln University and at the Ruakura Research Campus in Hamilton.

Lincoln Agritech CEO Peter Barrowclough says recent government funding reflects the ability of the organisation to achieve research outcomes.

Whether your vehicle needs a full groom or just and quick wash and buff, you can trust

our team of experts.

We’re a family-owned business with old-fashioned values like honesty and integrity.

We cater to our customers needs.

You can count on us - wherever and whenever your vehicle needs attention.

Being courteous, remembering to share the road with others and scheduling frequent breaks can help you keep your cool when driving during these times.

Watch out for children on the road. Young cyclists and pedestrians can be unpredictable, as they are poor judges of vehicle speed. Children may also be learning to ride new bikes over the holidays.

You can make a number of choices to increase your safety on your holiday journey. You need to give road use the attention and respect it deserves.

Plan ahead• Take a little time to make sure that

you and your vehicle are safe before starting your journey.

• Plan to avoid the worst peak traffic periods when many highways become congested.

• Allow plenty of time – make the journey part of the holiday.

• Schedule regular rest stops.

Be alert to changesOften during holiday periods, passing

lanes are closed to help reduce congestion and prevent further delays where the traffic merges at the end of lanes. Sometimes alternative routes are suggested. Check www.nzta.govt.nz for real-time updates about route changes, delays, closures and incidents.

Driving during school holidaysYou will need to take extra care when travelling in holiday periods because of increased traffic volumes, congestion, tiredness and people driving in unfamiliar environments.

Drive to the conditionsConditions doesn’t just mean the

weather. It also includes:• The road you’re on• The traffic conditions• The speed (the speed limit and a

‘safe speed’ may differ)• You, for example are you tired or on

medication that affects your driving• Your vehicle and load

Keep your coolHoliday driving can be frustrating with

busy roads, often slower sightseeing travellers, stifling heat in summer and icy surfaces in winter.

Here are some simple and easy ways to stay calm and stay in control:• Be courteous – let others merge into

traffic and indicate before turning or changing lanes.

• Keep left unless passing.• If you’re a slower driver, pull over when

you can to let others pass.• Be patient and don’t be provoked by

other drivers' aggressive behaviour.• Remember that trucks and towing

vehicles have lower speed limits. Wait for a passing lane or until you can see clear road ahead of you and enough space to overtake safely.

• Keep an eye out for cyclists and other road users. Give them plenty of space.

• Watch out for horses on back country roads.

Watch out for fatigueLong trips are tiring and fatigue can

be deadly when you're driving. Driver fatigue was a factor in 54 road deaths and nearly 1000 injuries last year. Plan to get enough rest beforehand so that you drive fresh. You should plan in advance where you’ll take breaks on your trip.

Cyclists and towing vehicles are two of the potential road hazards to be aware of while driving during the school holidays.

The first is a relatively new volunteer group called Selwyn Car Seat Champions. This group of seven local ladies are qualified child restraint technicians. All have completed the NZQA qualification for child restraint technicians through a New Zealand Transport Agency training provider.

They are able to help with information, checking and fitting of the child restraints. While the service this group offer is free to our local residents, we need to appreciate that they do this work on a completely volunteer basis and the appointment time will be discussed with you when return contact is made.

For those having their first child, it is important to contact well before baby is born, as parents are required to ensure the child restraint meets all safety and legal requirements when it is fitted into the car.

All child restraints need to be checked and adjusted regularly. Particularly if you change your vehicle, it is recommended that the seat be checked again once fitted. Sometimes locking clips are required to ensure a firm fit and this can

This month I thought it would be of interest to mention a couple of local road safety programmes which are not so well known by our residents but are available in Selwyn.

be quite a simple process to have done. To find out more information or

request one of technicians be in touch, initial contact can be made through road safety at the council, or go to facebook.com and enter ‘Selwyn car seat champions’.

The second project is the Community Road Safety Fund which is available to schools, community groups and individuals who have a worthwhile initiative to promote road safety in the Selwyn District.

This fund is available to encourage our residents to be involved in road safety education, particularly for young children. There is a limited number of grants available this year between now and June 30, 2016.

Applications can be made by completing an application outlining what is proposed and what the outcome is likely to be. This application is sent to the road safety team for consideration and a decision is made to approve or decline.

If approved, a grant of up to $500, including GST, will financially support

the proposed activity or event. Practical support may also be available from the road safety coordinator and once completed a joint evaluation discussion is arranged with those involved.

The application form and information is on the Selwyn District Council website

or you can arrange to have one posted to you.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Community Road Safety Fund, or would like to discuss your ideas, contact the road safety coordinator at the council.

It is a skill of neighbourliness and sharing. If you are new to the game of grafting, well... others share their best fruit wood with you, and in a couple of years, you get a chance to share grafting wood with others.

Being able to take seedlings from a river bed or your own garden and turn them into top quality fruiting trees is great fun and good economics.

If you would like to learn by doing- you are welcome to join others at Dave and Virginia Askin's place (Ballybroom) at 2003 Bealey Road, near the Selwyn Bridge (200m after Bealey Bridge, heading to Hororata) from 3pm to 4.30pm on Saturday, September 26.

A free training session is being offered there by the Nourish programme of Two Rivers Community Trust.

There's grafting wood for apple, pear, plum, nectarine, peach etc available to take home with you and you can also put your name on some grape cuttings - that are getting ever closer to ready to go to new homes.

Sharing the knowledge on grafting fruit treesFruit tree grafting is not only good fun, but it’s also a great skill to have if you are keen on living a little more sustainably, closer to your community.

The training will also demonstrate budding skills and there's bound to be discussion around pruning and all things garden wise.
