CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY SERVICE
http://bit.ly/UoCRecruit
#UoCRecruit
Bishop Otter Campus 15th October 2015, 9am to 2pm Chapel, ShowRoom, H144 and H149
Over 100 organisations are represented
here, either looking to recruit graduates for
full-time roles, or to offer work experience,
internships and one-year placements.
Advice is available on how to make yourself
more employable and going it alone as
self-employed in your own business.
WHY WOULD YOU BE
INTERESTED?
FIRST YEAR STUDENT?
This event is for YOU! Meet local
recruiters who have part-time, full-time and
summer opportunities. There is also the
prospect of boosting your CV and filling your
Higher Education Achievement Report
(HEAR). By working with charities and
voluntary organisations, from a range of
sectors, who need your help you will make yourself a more attractive prospect to future
potential employers. Make the most of the
occasion to talk with employers and people
working in a variety of sectors to learn about
their recruitment methods, timings and their
schemes and opportunities for placements
and internships for when you are in second
year.
SECOND YEAR STUDENT?
This event is for YOU! Come and chat to
employers if you are seeking summer jobs,
placements or 3-10 week internships (Zone 4
- visit GraduateOn). Speak to people who
work in jobs you might consider and who
could advise on how to make yourself more
employable. Alternatively, if you seek
experience in a highly competitive career
path, why not consider chatting to local
charities and volunteer groups who could
offer you work place experience to help you
stand out from the crowd with your CV.
Ensure you reap the full rewards of the Fair
by talking to employers who start
recruitment of graduates early into your final
year of study and understand what you will
need to successfully secure that dream job
after you graduate.
FINAL YEAR STUDENT /
POSTGRADUATE?
This event is definitely for YOU! Talk
and network with exhibitors for hints and
tips about when to apply for jobs, learn what
they expect to see in a CV and discover the
broad opportunities available to you. Open
your mind and find out where your degree
subject could take you - you will be
surprised! Have a copy of your CV or a
business card to hand to leave with that interested employer. There are exhibitors,
with ‘dream jobs’ and opportunities, who
seek the perfect candidate to fill them, YOU
could be that candidate!
Welcome…

This Fair gives you the opportunity in a short period of time to meet many different
organisations. You are likely to have a conversation for 3-10 minutes so make that
short period of time count. You may wish to discuss with an exhibitor what their
organisation does, what sort of candidates are they seeking and how/when to apply
by. You have nothing to lose but a lot to gain. Here are some useful tips:
1. Approach the Fair with the appropriate attitude… Look at this as a fun,
no pressure event. You need to accept that you may not find the very
opportunity that suits you but you are going to learn a huge amount about the
graduate job market to help your next steps.
2. Prepare for your speed dating…
Think about how you want to present yourself to exhibitors and recruiters
Work out your Unique Selling Point (USP) - 3 x unique things that an
exhibitor, after a busy day meeting 100s of students, will recall about you.
Have a list of questions in your mind that you want to ask every exhibitor.
3. Make a list… of things you find desirable in a work opportunity, as well as
those that are deal breakers.
4. Be Yourself… the purpose of the Fair is to let you form an opinion of an area
of work opportunity and determine if that is attractive to you.
5. Show confidence… even if you don't feel confident, make an effort to appear
confident to give a good impression.
6. Introduce yourself… to as many exhibitors at the Fair as possible.
7. Respect the time available… don’t overstay your welcome when you have
discovered the perfect contact, continue to discuss with other exhibitors and to
allow for other students and the exhibitor to have a conversation.
8. Close your discussion appropriately… if you have a CV to hand over or
even a business card that is a small reminder to the exhibitor after the event.
9. Collect a business card… from every conversation… ‘Have you a card?’
10. Follow up - don’t let this ‘date’ go cold… check your notes and follow up
all connections afterwards.
Then book a 1:1 interview with a Careers Consultants at http://bit.ly/TCstudent
or come and see the Careers and Employability Service stand at Zone 5 table 501.
