• Epic: a long narrative in prose or poem format celebrating the adventures and achievements of a hero.
The OdysseyThe Odyssey begins with the fall of the city of Troy. It tells the story of a Greek warrior, Odysseus, and his nostos, or journey home, to northwest Greece after the Greek victory over the Trojans. The journey takes ten years, during which Odysseus and his men have many adventures. In this excerpt, they venture into the cave of the Cyclops Polyphemus and became trapped there. Odysseus must figure out a way to escape the cave alive.
