Family Weekend 2014

Each year, the Office of Residence Life, Housing, and Event Services evaluates its programming model so it can best serve the

needs of its continuously changing student body. The purpose of programming within the residence halls is to care for the whole

person while providing opportunities to answer the Jesuit question, “how ought we to live?” Programming accomplishes this by

creating a safe and welcoming environment for students to develop community, embrace diversity, foster civic engagement and

social justice, and partake in leadership opportunities. Programming ultimately seeks to meet the emotional, spiritual, physical,

and mental needs of each student.

After much research and input from students, the “Wellness

Wheel programming Model” will be used to further these

objectives for the upcoming academic year. The Wellness

Wheel consists of seven different areas:

1) Cultural

2) Emotional

3) Ignatian

4) Intellectual

5) Physical

6) Social

7) Spiritual

For a program to count as part of the Wellness Wheel, it must

meet the criteria for one of these seven areas. All programming

is facilitated by a student peer known as a Resident Assistant

who receives extensive training on effective programming

methodology and implementation. Programming examples

in the past have included; Relay for Life on the quad, an

all campus Quidditch tournament, an all building alcohol

education session, and assisting with the Father Woody Wrap

Party.

Programming Changes

Student Activities

Residence Life, Housing, and Event Services

Student Activities is going to be focusing programming efforts

on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights this year. Many

events will be held through Walker’s Pub and Thursday

Thrills will move to 9 p.m. Student Activities will once again

be sponsoring the Best of Colorado, giving students the

opportunity to see theater productions, attend sporting events,

visit downtown Denver, and go on trips throughout Colorado.

Student Activities will be collaborating with faculty this year and

will be working with Dr. Susan Jacobson to bring John Fielder

to campus, Dr. Dan Wessner on Constitution Day in September,

Dr. Lara Shamieh with Global Medical Brigades, and Dr. Nicki

Gonzales in the history department. Students are interested

in organizing a Collegiate Quiz Bowl and will be looking for

a faculty advisor in the near future. In addition, Student

Activities is exploring the possibility of doing a “Faculty’s Got

Talent” event sometime this year so they will be looking for

faculty to share the inside scoop on their colleagues talents for

production recruitment!
