Citing his health as the reason for his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race, Stephens made the an- nouncement at a press conference in Helena last Friday morning. Stephens was recently hospi- talized after suffering from stroke-like symptoms which later were discovered to be the result of a vascular problem. Stephens announcement left Andrea Bennett, the state auditor, as the only Republican gubernato- rial candidate. The deadline to file for the gubernatorial race is March 19, and numerous speculations have been made as to who will run against Bennett in the June primary. Stephens' Lieutenant Gover- nor Dennis Rehberg and State Attorney General Marc Raciot have both been named as possible candidates. Nominations were completed last week for the 1992 Homecom- ing king and queen. Nominees for king are Andy Evenson, Rich Ruocco, Darren Schlepp, and Bob Spoja. Queen nominees are LeeAnn Lanning, Jeannie Mclsaac, Robyn Smith, and Melanie Ulrich. Roy- alty voting will take place all this week at the information desk in the SUB. Stephens withdraws from race Homecoming royalty nominated

By Bruce Maxwell Retort News Writer

Governor Stan Stephens an-nounced that he will not run for re-election in November. Citing his health as the reason for his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race, Stephens made the an-nouncement at a press conference in Helena last Friday morning.

Stephens was recently hospi-talized after suffering from stroke-like symptoms which later were discovered to be the result
