Academic requirements

The teaching profession looks for the highest quality candidates, so you'll need to meet the following requirements before you can be accepted for teacher training:

• A degree awarded by a UK university.

• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at grade C or above.

• For primary and middle school (key stages 2-3) you'll also need at least a C grade in GCSE science (or equivalent).

Non-academic requirements that help make sure teaching is the right job for you• Classroom experience - At least 10 days classroom experience

before you begin teacher training – check requirements with individual providers as this varies.

• Medical fitness: Some applicants may be asked to have a medical examination.

Helpful to provide full details of disabilities on your application so that training providers can try to make any necessary adjustments.
