Subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) course • Available in the areas of maths, physics, chemistry, languages

computing and design and technology.

• Teacher Training providers may feel you need to refresh your subject knowledge – will discuss SKE options with you.

Academic requirements

The teaching profession looks for the highest quality candidates, so you'll need to meet the following requirements before you can be accepted for teacher training:

• A degree awarded by a UK university.

• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at grade C or above.

• For primary and middle school (key stages 2-3) you'll also need at least a C grade in GCSE science (or equivalent).

Non-academic requirements that help make sure teaching is the right job for you• Classroom experience - At least 10 days classroom experience

before you begin teacher training – check requirements with individual providers as this varies.

• Medical fitness: Some applicants may be asked to have a medical examination.

Helpful to provide full details of disabilities on your application so that training providers can try to make any necessary adjustments.

1. Up to 4,000 characters or 47 lines of text (including spaces) – whichever comes first. Some word processing packages calculate character and line counts differently from the UCAS Teacher Training system (redrafting may be needed!)

2. Write in English (or Welsh if you’re applying to Welsh providers

3. Avoid italics, bold or underlining.

4. Get the grammar and punctuation right and redraft your statement until you’re happy with it.

5. Write your personal statement in a word processor first, then copy and paste it into your application.
