James 1:9-11, NASB

9 But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; 10 and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.

12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes,

and there also comes in a poor man in dirty

clothes,3and you pay special attention to

the one who is wearing the fine clothes,

and say, “You sit here in a good place,”

and you say to the poor man, “You stand

over there, or sit down by my footstool,”

with anguish because of all the terrible

troubles ahead of you.2Your wealth is

rotting away, and your fine clothes are

moth-eaten rags.3Your gold and silver have

become worthless…

4For listen! Hear the cries of the field

workers whom you have cheated of their pay.

The wages you held back cry out against

you. The cries of those who harvest your

fields have reached the ears of the LORD of

Heaven’s Armies.

luxury, satisfying your every desire. You

have fattened yourselves for the day of

slaughter.6You have condemned and killed

innocent people, who do not resist you
