Education Through Music (ETM) explores the critical contribution of the aesthetic in the nurture and education of the post-modern child in the age of the digital brain. In every course and workshop we strive to provide an inspiring exploration of this innovative approach to better equip educators for today’s learning environments. Through song and play, ETM fosters understanding of human development and learning in light of contemporary research in neuroscience.

PROFESSIONALS USING ETMETM, based in song and play experiences, is accessible to all—no musical training or ability is required to participate in study or to fully implement practices. It is to the benefit of all who spend their time with children—classroom teachers, music educators, special education teachers, coaches, pediatricians, therapists, parents, grandparents, and other caregivers.

JOIN US! I. ANNUAL COURSES provide in-depth study of and immersion in the practice of ETM with master teachers. Courses are offered September to May and are broken into multiple sessions totalling 30 hours of study. CEU/College Credit is available.

II. COLLOQUIUM is a week-long summer study consisting of daily ob-servation of ETM master teachers working with children, special interest sessions (classroom/music literacy, special needs, etc.), and the study of child development from the latest research in neuroscience.

III. SUMMER FINE ARTS DAY CAMP offers a full week-long experience designed for adults and children to participate together in music, art, and storytelling taught by master ETM teachers.

INVIGORATE “BEST PRACTICE” TEACHINGOur hope in the brightest future rests with those educators who seek to employ the best practices in guiding development—those who update themselves in the nature of today’s child and who continue to adopt in-novative contexts for learning. This includes addressing matters of focus, self-regulation, and appropriate regard for adults and peers. Education Through Music aims to illuminate credible answers for the challenges parents and teachers face in rearing and educating the post-modern child. In summer and winter offerings, the Richards Institute presents Ed-ucation Through Music’s unique context, materials, and teaching strate-gies. Select, highly-trained, master teachers invigorate perspectives and practices in the area of:
