Next year, and every three years thereafter, the Capital One Orange Bowl will host a College Football Playoff Semifinal. Capital One Orange Bowl Selection Committee Rankings 1. Alabama 2. Oregon 3. USC College Football Playoff Beginning this season FBS college football will enter a new four-team playoff era. The best four teams, as determined by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, will face off in two College Football Playoff Semifinals played in bowl games. The bowl games that will serve as the semifinals will rotate annually between the Sugar, Rose, Orange, Cotton, Peach and Fiesta bowl with the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl serving as the semifinals for the 2014-2015 season. For years that these bowl games are not hosting semifinals they will host teams consistent with conference affiliations and/or College Football Playoff committee selections. The two victorious teams from the semifinals will then advance to the College Football Playoff National Championship, this year played in Arlington, Texas. The National Championship Game will be played in a different city each year. In the process of selecting the final four teams for the semifinals, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee released its first weekly top 25 rankings on Tuesday, October 28th and will do so for six consecutive weeks. Factors that will influence rankings and eventual team selections include schedule strength, results from head-to-head matchups against common opponents and conference championships won. As part of an agreement with ESPN, Capital One has secured the title sponsorship of the Orange Bowl, beginning with the Capital One Orange Bowl to be played on December 31, 2014, in South Florida. The multi-year deal builds on Capital One’s substantial support of college athletics by becoming the official credit card and bank of the new College Football Playoff.
The Capital One Orange Bowl will play host to a College Football Playoff Semifinal in year two of the agreement (New Year’s Eve 2015) and again in year five (2018). In the other four years of the agreement, the Capital One Orange Bowl will feature the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Champion (or ACC replacement team should the champion qualify for the College Football Playoff) against a highly ranked team from the Big Ten, Southeastern Conference (SEC) or Notre Dame.
“As the landscape of post-season collegiate football evolves, the Orange Bowl looks forward to this new partnership with Capital One and continuing its long-standing relationship with ESPN,” said Orange Bowl president Luis Boué. “Capital One’s commitment to collegiate athletics, teamed with ESPN’s reputation as a sports leader and the Orange Bowl’s championship tradition will ensure a beneficial relationship for all of us.”
ESPN will exclusively carry all New Year’s Six bowl games on December 31 and January 1, including the Capital One Orange Bowl and Playoff Semifinals. For 2014-15, the Semifinals will feature No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 as ranked by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, and will be played in the Rose Bowl presented by Northwestern Mutual and the Allstate Sugar Bowl on January 1, 2015. ESPN will also carry the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship from North Texas, featuring the winners of the two semifinals on January 12, 2014.

Capital One Orange Bowl Head Coaches Press Conference
Orange Bowl Committee Honored for Role in CommunityThis year, the Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) has been honored by three organizations for its work in the community.
The OBC was first honored as the Pinion Inc. Local Organization of theYear for its work with the Special Olympics. The OBC has supported the Special Olympics and its various bowling, flag football and track competitions in years.
Make-A-Wish of Southern Florida bestowed Foundation of the Year honors upon the OBC for its support of South Florida Youth.
Finally the Broward chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) selected the Orange Bowl Committee as the recipient of this year’s National Philanthropy Day Award for Outstanding Small Corporation.
